    Nice! It would be useful to know what distortion / overdrive settings you used? 💥

    Bowie's "Aladdin Sane" almost knocked me out in 1973 ! Still one of my favourites. My great respect to Mr. Bowie and Mr. Mick Ronson. My love for you will last !!!

    This can also be called a Sweet "Blockbuster" guitar tutorial also.

      Yeah the Sweet ripped off this riff, Bowie made this in October 1972 well before the Sweet looked like a bunch of Bricklayers dressed in satin and tat.

    The guitar on this song is all about attitude.

    Nice Jon. When I play the open E riff I just kinda roll and flatten my ring finger to play the A and then roll back to the E( lazy I know.😁) Thanks for the lesson.👍🎸

    • @jonmaclennan
      @jonmaclennan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That works too. It's good to think that way as a guitarist, I'm lazy that way as well, but it's more like just the minimum effective dose. Keep up the great progress Tracey!

    It would have been nice to pay tribute to the late Mick Ronson. He's one of the most overlooked of all the great guitar heroes, and Bowie's early sound wouldn't have been the same without him. As Bowie said at the time, he'd "found his Jeff Beck" when he added Ronson to the band.

    • @diamonddog4708

      Definitely not overlooked, we love him 🇬🇧

    I think it was in 1972, that two songs topped the UK chart, at Number 1 and Number 2, with the very same guitar riff. The other song was 'Blockbuster' by Sweet.

      I seem to recall that The Sweet were sued by Bowie and lost.

    Thank you so much Jon. Could you please do a tutorial on Smiling Eyes, by Showaddywaddy?. It's a beautiful song. I have wanted to play it, and solo since I was Kid, many moons ago. Take care.

    Good lesson. How about the Earl Slick solo from the David Live album? Just kidding. That would be a real trip, tho. Cheers!

      He’s not saying Bowie was on guitar, he’s saying you’re going to learn the song on guitar. Anyone who’s into music knows Ronson was the guitarist in the Spiders. 👍🏼

    Not how ronson plays the chorus and do not think it is the right chord. Think he has the verse wrong too but not sure
