    Hi Adrian, the Scottish guitarist Ricky Gardiner played the lovely lead part on this song. Once you know that, you can recognise his distinctive sound across much of side 1 of Low, the album this song comes from. He made such an important contribution to the album ,and it's surprising that he wasn't better known. It's another example of Bowie's ability to gather amazing talents together as contributors to his music.

    Isn't that one of the best sounds ever? Love this song. I would love to hear more unreleased Low.

      It *IS* a wonderful sound! One of my favorite Bowie songs ever - just because of those sounds.

    In all my days I never thought I’d learn to play this! Thank you so much Adrian.
    By the way, I saw Iggy Pop on his “The Idiot” tour back in the day, ‘77 maybe? A then semi-derelict Hippodrome theatre in Birmingham.
    “I got a good friend helping out on keyboards tonight” drawls Iggy as Bowie walks out and takes his seat.

    You've been going for so many years? wow. as an advanced player i still get so much out of your lessons. My son is a beginner and he loves this channel too. So good to avoid the usual tropes - when i started it was The Smiths, The Byrds, Stone Roses etc cos I had no access to Magazine etc. Thank you so much Adrian for all the hard work you do to help musicians on every level. You have my undying respect.

  • @acpg
    @acpg  9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Glad you liked it Hannes. I'm no theory expert, but I just use the term 6th to refer to the distance between any two notes - B to G, or C to A - regardless of whether the lowest note is the tonic/root or not. You're absolutely right that the sound and musical effect of each pair of notes can differ greatly according to context, and in the case of a song like this you'll want to understand what function the notes are playing in relation to the underlying chords and bass notes.

    Fantasticly clear instruction. For some reason I imagined this number to be a lot more complex than it actually is. Maybe all that fantastic bass playing from Gail Ann Dorsey did that! The guitar is actually a cinch, especially if you have a another guitarist with you ... not so easy in lockdown! Thanks for posting this. :-)

More psychedelic tunes please. Keep it up brother.
