John Zeitz Ha great point. Ya know that reminds me why I was late sometimes... and not to get all nostalgic on everyone, but I have two boys, mostly grown now... But I used to take them with me since they were in BB guns :) Getting the little fellas fed and dressed and organized always took an amazing amount of time! Didn’t take much to wake them up back in those days. Soon as they realized it was a hunting morning, they literally bounced out of bed ;)
Was all SOOO worth it tho. Both are young men now. Fine kids that hunt at every opportunity. Kids that know what work is and don’t piss and moan if it’s cold or difficult. Kids that have goals.
Now, I know that hunting (when they were little) didn’t contribute to ALL of their good traits... but it damn sure had a positive effect in my view.
Very important fellas...TAKE A KID HUNTING. You might be setting them up to turn into great adults!!!

The second drake you pulled out. You can see the where the paint was scratched up already and chipped from just being shipped. I'll stick to avain x I've been running them since they first came out and not one paint chip yet. And I beat on my equipment here in Wisconsin.
For the paint you can get a matte clear coat to spray on them that helps make them last longer
Josh, I just bought a box for $99 at Bass Pro yesterday... They were way too cool to pass-up for walking trips. Never heard of them before so I gave it a shot. Thanks for the awesome review (I didn't know those keel weights came out). I have passed on swatting in the past because my deks were in the way...Not anymore! Thanks again.
They look pretty good. I had some Styrofoam decoys once. Super light, and held up surprisingly well.

They look good. Being able to lay them out on the ground is awesome also. The price is a little high. EVA is pretty cheap material. The design, paint and dual use make them worth it for now but soon competition will start making these out of foam and they will have to drop prices to compete. Early adopter always pay more though.
Check out a hillman rod to carry them around. Makes life a lot easier with those texas rigs.

I wonder how they would store long term as far as the foam getting a memory of some kind. The bill seemed kinda bent down to me on one of the drakes just from being in the box. I like the foam and I'm interested to see how they preform in the water, especially in some kind of wake situation. I get boats coming by time to time and it can make for some interesting swells. Also how secure are those weights in the decoy? Could they fall out over time, when tossed, in the carry bag or will the body get softer in hot temperatures causing any of this more easily?

You should try Dakota decoys. They do cost a little more and weigh a little more but the realism and quality are well worth it. I have the ones with just flocking on the drake heads and the flocking last a long time

Dakota’s are just so darn heavy. Not a big deal if you have a boat or don’t walk far though
@@OutdoorLimits agree, just talking about looks. I like Avians to but the same. Their heavy as hell. I have a little boat so it doesnt bother me to much. But it does suck a bag of di!ks when I walk in

Any thoughts on using these for field hunting? Looks to me like they could be set on a stake pretty easily.
You can actually just set them on the ground and they will sit up straight!
They look pretty and be durable but I feel like the paint would come off over a couple years of use

The color on the speculum might look realistic but if they were realistic it would not be showing as it does not show on a resting duck.
Once again another hunter is fooled into buying more decoys......
Honestly they probably cant tell the difference between head positions on floaters
