    12 days away here in East TN and I’m beyond ready. I switched to the Tx rig set up a couple years ago and absolutely love it, quick getting them out and easy pick up. I have a dozen in a slotted bag with long lines for if the river is up at the time. Sorry for the long comment but I love seeing everyone getting the duck fever and hope everyone has a safe hunt + limit out!

    Get you some 1/2" to 3/4" pvc pipe and cut to the length of your line, but a shy bit shorter. you run your lines through the pipe, I use and old metal wire like a clothes hanger with a hook bent on the end, and pull your cables through the pipe and hook your carabiner in the loops on the other end. helps to avoid the knots and keeps them from tangling and easier to tote and handle. If you use around 3/4" pvc, you can easily fit a dozen and half together.

    Nice Texas rigs! I like to have the decoy slide instead of the weight sliding. It keeps your loop next to the decoy and makes pickup easier! Use bank sinkers instead of the egg sinkers and crimp them to the end.

    I run j weights on a bungee with braided decoy cord and put them each in slotted bags. Keeps the paint nice. I tried Texas rigs one year and my decoys got all beat up and tangled up even with vinyl coated steel cable. I also had issues with mushroom weights not grabbing the river bottom and lost half a dozen decoys that season.

  • @outdoorfreedom9778
    @outdoorfreedom9778 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    The double sleeves and the line can be found on line at the Mason fishing equipment company along with a crimping tool, I simply use a big vise grip. Look up sinker molds on line too. I cast all my own fishing weights and a bag of shot lasts forever, they are 25 pounds. I don't exactly use the Texas rig, I came up with my own rig after decades of hunting. I'm able to adjust instantly to pond depth and they never tangle.

    We now use a hammer man instead of a crimper tool. We have used both but the hammer is a faster way to go
    We also put the loop on the decoy end instead of being on the weight end. That way when it’s cold if you don’t have decoy gloves your hands stay a lot dryer cause you just pick up the decoy by the head and the loop is right there just a thought for the guys making T rigs at home

    Most expensive item and hardest to get are the lead weights. Besides that the rest is very easy to get from Amazon. I was able to make 10 dozen Texas Riggs with 4oz to 6oz sinkers for 70$. I also use a pair of pliers to crimp the clamp down no special tool needed

      @@nickdobson6369 yep i ordered all the 400lb mono line and crimps from Amazon the brand is catch-all tackle. The snap swivels were also from Amazon they were just a generic one that are a little more robust then Bobby got they are easier to attach to decoys. And I found a local guy in New Orleans who smelts lead sinkers I got 5 dozen 4oz and 5 dozen 6oz from him that I picked up from him. There are a ton of videos on TH-cam how to make them and are actually easy to do. I made all my own then bought enough to do another 15-20 dozen to sell on La sportsman for 20$ a dozen but it never actually took off like I thought it would. It really doesn't take a lot of duck floaters to bring ducks on the water a dozen and a half to three dozens all you really need
