  • The car I have for you today is the very appealing performance variant of Nissan's Cherry, the X-1R. There's factory over fenders, an 80-metric-horsepower A12 engine with twin SU carburettors, and bags of style with its very uniquely-styled rear hatch.

    Datsun Cherry or as we called it the Datsun 100A was very popular car here in Finland. All the cars had 1,0 litre engine, except the coupe version which had 1,2 litre engine in it. We had them in 2D sedan, 4D sedan, estate and coupe. I have a 1975 2D sedan, which I bought back in 1997. It has the same colour green as the van version in this video. 85000km´s on the clock. =)

    hello ; my 120A coupé was yellow ( nearly as the RX7 standing by therein the video ) I bought this 73 model from my collegue at work who had destroyed the motor by lack of oil , it was 1981 ; with the replacement with the very good motor of the one of my cousin who had slip on ice in a curve , I had very good times with this car . Unfortunatly my Cherry was stolen and smashed ( front right ) in 1987 ; with parts I had , I drive it again few months but slightly as a crab . I bought then a KN 10 ( 1500 cc ) cherry coupé ( last series ) .
    The cherry van E10 was the car I droved daily from the importator where I worked '73 - ' 74 ( first work in my life ) , going to the post-office , or Datsun at Antwerpen where the parts were received from Japan for Europe
    I miss so much this yellow KLE 10

    As soon as i saw that car i did wonder whether it had been resprayed;) Spend as long as you like on your vids Daniel as i always find them interesting.
    On a side note i was in japan a few years ago for work and one of the guys i was working for took me to a car show.
    One of a number of interesting cars to me was a car that i hadn't seen before and that was a Toyota Crown Super Deluxe Coupe of i am guessing the 1971 era.
    A more common Toyota Crown sedan of similar era was parked next to it.
    Both cars were very tidy looking.

    It's funny to see you came to the same conclusion as I did in my research for carmashups: the R only offered bolt on fender flares and the choice of colour to be white only.

    G'day Dan'l. I hope you're well. Sweet looking Nissan Cherry coupe. Here in the USA, it was called the Datsun F-10. It's not quite as attractive as the JDM version, but it's not bad looking either.

    • @wasabicars
      @wasabicars  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, doing well. I've been doing my best to stay away from people. Don't want to get sick. These cars went to the States? Nice. Can't say I recall ever hearing about that.

    • @jasoncarpp7742
      @jasoncarpp7742 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. Same here. I try to keep as healthy as possible, by avoiding places where more people gather. Yeah. In the mid-70s, we had the Datsun F10. They were always 2 door cars like this. They were sold here in the USA between 1975 and 1977. I was way too young at the time to drive a car. But I remember cars like that.If you google it, I'm sure you'll find some info. But I think it was based on the Nissan Cherry.

    In Finland that van was marketed as station wagon. For me it was the smallest hatchback I've ever driven. There's no way you can fit a adult to the back seat with the front bucket seat adjusted correctly. The car I took for a test drive was also white btw and it had been fitted with a A14 engine. It pulled away pretty nicely even with a slipping clutch.

    • @wasabicars
      @wasabicars  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, tiny things, but I would love that green van. A14? Nice.

    • @Zulumies
      @Zulumies 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wasabicars It still surprised me. I had a 1971 Corolla station wagon (KE18 bodystyle) at that time and even that felt big interior-wise when comparing to that Datsun. That one had originally been green as well, although it was of different shade. The A14 was sourced from a Datsun Sunny race car so it was more than enough for that body since it's incredibly light.

  • @dalegrosvenor-gibbs3178
    @dalegrosvenor-gibbs3178 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Yes nothing different mechanically between X-1 and X-1r. Just trim. X-1r overfenders as you know. The fender mirrors were different, seats different material, steering wheel was same design, but X-1r should be leather, or leather look lol. X-1 in wood. These might have been an option as seen X-1r with wood as mine, but I think it was just owners changing them to wood for more luxurious look. X-1 was more based on luxury and X-1r more basic and weight saving. X-1r had radio blanking plate, bottoms of doors didn't have a trim plate. The X-1r seats had the eyelets. Breathing holes?

    • @wasabicars
      @wasabicars  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Roger, they don't. If you think about it, it's the car manufactures that built the country. The less old cars on the road, the better... as far as some people are concerned. Not impossible to register, just more expensive. The REAL issue is that the general public want new and shiny. Also, and significantly, they want reliable. So... out with the old...
