@@guilhem3739 The applicable authority in the area (in this case FAA) will have declared a number of exclusion zones for the launch. Elsewhere on the world have likely also been exclusion zones at that time for things that fall back down to earth (like boosters) and maybe even for the potential abort scenarios. The space shuttle abort options were obviously somewhat different from a rocket launched capsule, I guess they had a few reserved slots at certain airports all over the world around launch windows. This plane wasn't all that close in the sense of being in the way of its trajectory or at risk by getting hit by debris if the space shuttle had an unfortunate rapid unscheduled disassembly in air. If you dig around you can probably find similar documentation for recent SpaceX launches, crew Dragon demo-2 for example was launched from Kennedy Space Center (KSC) as always and had planned abort scenarios. One was near that island off the Canadian coast and the other somewhere near Ireland. I would have expected there to be guidance about not having airplanes and ships in those areas.

The facts behind all the launches of every space bound vehicle sent by man is incredible. From launch to re-entry, the physics and dynamics of the speed and forces involved is unbelievable. Something so large being shot into space at roughly 18,000 mph, and the fuel and cost to do so are staggering to think about. And to think that bigger vehicles are on the horizon for the future of space exploration forces me to salivate at the least.

A vehicle launched in space, recorded on a hand-held computer, on a plane at nearly 6 miles in the air. And you got to view it at home, on your own computer, by the Internet. Think about the miracles of technology that you're seeing.
"people on the right side of the aircraft will be able to see the space shuttle launch, and those sitting on the left side will probably see those on the right side looking at the space shuttle launch"
I'm amazed that from that distance, while in an airplane that is mid flight, using a consumer grade video recorder with a consumer grade single microphone, with all the ambient noise of the airplane and all the ambient noise of the people within, you can still clearly hear the roar of the rockets. That. Is. Crazy. Loud.
Not possible to hear it from that distance, inside of a pressurized volume. plus the sound delay would put it significantly further than the entire duration of the video. some quick photo matching on google earth looks like the plane is roughly above gainsville, roughly 200km northwest of the launch site. sound travels at .34km/s at sea level. 126 second video, some quick math would mean it would take roughly 580 seconds for the sound to reach them from that distance, not even accounting for how high up they are, and by that point it would STILL be too quiet to hear. yes, they're really damn loud, I've attended 50+ launches myself, past around 30-40km from the pad the noise from the engines blends in with the ambient noise. it's just not possible.

Given the infrequency of space shuttle launches, the odds of being on an airplane within range view of said launch are far lower than winning a major lottery jackpot, except that viewing the space shuttle launch won't make you rich.
The odds of getting a VIP viewing ticket and actually being able to see a launch were lower. Flew to florida for 3 launches, delayed my ticket home multiple times until I had to go back to work, shuttle always launched the day after I flew home.
Probably, every time the shuttle launched there were commercial planes catching a view. Although the shuttle flights were limited, commercial flights in and out of Florida airports and flights going up and down the east coast are in the hundreds per day. So yes for an individual it would be rare but I would venture to say that almost every launch was witness by some nearby commercial flight.

@@gu3z185 "lots of voices" there's like 3 people lmfao
What a fantastic shot. And now that the shuttles have stopped flying, it's guaranteed to remain a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Thanks for sharing.

Well to be perfectly honest, in my humble opinion, of course without offending anyone who thinks differently from my point of view, but also by looking into this matter in a different perspective and without being condemning of one's view's and by trying to make it objectified, and by considering each and every one's valid opinion, I honestly believe that I completely forgot what I was going to say.

This provides the best view of a launch to orbit that I've ever seen by far. They should film all launches like this.
like how they go full blown horizontal and never actually leave?
The facts behind all the launches of every space bound vehicle sent by man is incredible. From launch to re-entry, the physics and dynamics of the speed and forces involved is unbelievable. Something so large being shot into space at roughly 18,000 mph, and the fuel and cost to do so are staggering to think about. And to think that bigger vehicles are on the horizon for the future of space exploration forces me to salivate at the least.
so freaking incredible.

Such an elegant sight to see, humans moving off into the deep blue, the beautiful arc of smoke as a vessel leaves the bounds of the known and ventures into the universe, all in the name of science! This is where humans should be, out there, exploring

Shit, thats some apocalyptic stuff...
However, being on a plane might give you a chance at survival
osasunaitor but what would you come back to? The launches would have been pre-emptive before the Soviet warheads would have hit the silos... - so you would have seen several mushroom clouds a few minutes later, right from where the launches emanated...
@@Stadtpark90 indeed, but if the plane was flying high enough to be unaffected by the explosions and it had fuel enough, it could have flown until it reached safe land, provided the pilotes were skilful

Rare video, unique opportunity to view a launch from Aeroplane. Thanks uploader.

Once a saw one from a fishing charter

Frosty Fez I agree
I'm amazed that from that distance, while in an airplane that is mid flight, using a consumer grade video recorder with a consumer grade single microphone, with all the ambient noise of the airplane and all the ambient noise of the people within, you can still clearly hear the roar of the rockets. That. Is. Crazy. Loud.
That's the jet engines on the plane they're in. :)
@@standishmedia no it's not.
"Guys its getting closer"

why the shuttle starts to tilt? It’s a gravity turn. Helps the rocket get into orbit. Also it needs to achieve a certain horizontal speed or else it would just fall back to earth.

Given the infrequency of space shuttle launches, the odds of being on an airplane within range view of said launch are far lower than winning a major lottery jackpot, except that viewing the space shuttle launch won't make you rich.
Tim Summers yeah this is actually less probable than an airplane crashing
Actually its a higher chance considering its predictable
The odds of getting a VIP viewing ticket and actually being able to see a launch were lower. Flew to florida for 3 launches, delayed my ticket home multiple times until I had to go back to work, shuttle always launched the day after I flew home.
Probably, every time the shuttle launched there were commercial planes catching a view. Although the shuttle flights were limited, commercial flights in and out of Florida airports and flights going up and down the east coast are in the hundreds per day. So yes for an individual it would be rare but I would venture to say that almost every launch was witness by some nearby commercial flight.
