Hi mark . Ive just wrapped up my standard olive, just in case. I dont think you will have any problem with your mature trees. It wouldnt be that easy to protect them at the size of your trees. Let them do their own thing.👍. Steve
Hello, do you have very low temperatures during winter? I am from Poland and I would like to plant olive tree in my garden but sometimes we have around -10C, -15C and strong winds (couple of days).
You do great videos. I have a similar size Olive tree coming today. The garden centre said I could plant it in the ground in the next week or so and it will be good. Not sure if I should leave it in the pot until spring or plant it in the ground this weekend
Hi. Firstly thank you for your kind comments. My opinion is that you could do either, with a caveat, it does depend on the place you are planting it. If it is very exposed to cold/wind/waterlogging I would wait til spring. We do plant bare root species in the winter and the ground will still be warm underneath so your garden centre is probably right. Mark
I’ve had three potted olive trees, standard, around 15 years old in the North East and they’ve all survived several winters.. they’ve had temps down to -10 along with strong winds… no protection and all doing well
Had a olive tree here in Scotland for nearly 10 years now and never protected it once, it's been perfectly fine. Plus it is not as old as yours Mark. So bottom line your trees are under no threat. They are perfectly hardy as long as they don't become waterlogged and in that sandy soil you have, that is not going to happen.
hi there, try to identify the particular caterpillar, then look it up on google, there will be a product to buy, also encourage birds into your garden :-) pulling them off is also a very good idea. mark

To my surprise we also had snow and frost, but my plants are still standing 🥳 but I’m wrapping them anyway just in case .
always a good idea if there is any doubt, good luck with them. thank you. mark
Would it be better to cover the watering pots just over winter ? Also I think you’ll be lucky having the sandy under soil.
good idea, in fact now you have reminded me i think i will remove them and back fill, they are no longer needed. mark

wonderful, THANK YOU for this additional reassurance for both me and other readers. Mark
My trees are young. I think they are 2.5 years old. So you think a long freezing time is not dangerous
Well, if you are very exposed or worried you could relocate them or cover them with fleece but I have not had any problems.
Mark I am zone 7b and temperatures can be, between 0 to -5 Celsius for weeks, and lower from time to time. So you think I shall not worry
