Been enjoying your videos on olive trees. I'm in southeast Florida, USA. Had been growing an olive in the ground, but when it started looking poorly I potted it. I'm thinking of repotting it in a lighter soil mix. Hopefully it will slowly begin to recover.

Great update. Can you tell us what’s happening with the hard wood cuttings too please? 😊

Thank you for the update Mark! I feel better knowing that even if i tried with lack of my gardening skills its hard to kill the olive tree. I have a magnificent specimen which i had for years. I never knew how to properly look after it. I think i have been vigorous watering it recently. The branches have become a bit leggy( sorry if thats not the right term) and i wanted to prune but its late July so do i wait until next spring or can give it a light prune? And my second question is when is the best time to repot? I think it needs a large pot. Thank you

I would love a olive tree what type of tree would you recommend. I’m in the states zone 5 so it will be kept in a pot. Love your channel!

    Update on my olive journey
I decided to go ahead and remove my "dead" olive, despite it being green underneath, it still shows absolutely no sign of leaf and another winter would probably see it off for good.
I went to a local garden centre and managed to pick one up from the TLC table for £3.95 which was actually a bit taller than the one i had, it had been cut back but actually had healthy green leaves on the top, I practically ran towards it when I saw someone else eyeing it up from a distance and put it in the trolley 😂
Ive put this new bargain one in he same raised bed, which was good quality top soil with added grit and hope it will be okay 😂
Ironically, the same garden centre have put 25% off all their olives for this week.

What fertiliser/food do you use? You said you feed it each time you water, wondering if I should fertilise more often.

Hi Mark, I'm being gifted an 8ft olive tree but its too tall for my garden. Could I do extreme pruning to get the size down to a more manageable size?

Personally I don't see why not. Both those in the video I made are doing well. At that size I'd take chunks off but not all in one go.

@@MarksHouseandGardenUK Hi Mark we are collecting the olive tree tonight. I was thinking of repotting it. What is your opinion of an old whiskey barrel I have? Would that be a good option?

My olive grew a long tap root out of the pot hole into the poor earth below the cracked path it was sitting on
Unfortunately it blocked its own drainage. It was sitting in cold water so we had to deal with it.We repotted it and cut the root but it died! Ive taken hard wood cuttings nothing doing yet but I am still hopeful.

the harder you prune the stronger olive trees become. in greece are olive trees 1000-2000 y.o and people do very hard pruning to renew them
