He only used the light dolphin here. It's quick to start up, but you can punish her with a combo if you block it. The heavy dolphin is recognizable because it takes the dolphin way longer to pop out of the ground then dash forward, but May maintains the advantage if you block it.
In the heat of the moment it can be tough to react to the correct one, but it gets a lot easier if you play May for a bit and see it for yourself. That being said tho, I can see how it'd be tough to tell if you haven't played the game, since the animation is similar, just the speed is different.
