Mrs. Fogerty was my pre-school teacher in the early 1950's. The school was on Moser Lane across from Portola Junior High, next door to the Boys Club. Went to a pre-school reunion 10 years ago. Her granddaughter came to the event. Saw her again at an El Cerrito CCR retrospective last year. Really nice friendly person.

Tim Main I went to the same retrospective and met the granddaughter, Chris, too. Chris Fogerty is Tom Fogerty’s daughter. We talked about her Dad for a bit. She said she was a hugger and gave me a hug. The Fogerty family is very much a part of this community.

@@nickdanger33 This was in the summer of 1966 so probably before your time.. We were all working various jobs around south shore after high school. Life guards, dish washers, and maintenance jobs (clean up). We knew who they were so we were excited to see them. Maybe they were called the Golliwogs around that time. Don't remember that.

Tim Main That must have been something to see the band then. If you live local, did you notice that the new construction for condos/apt.s, at Eureka and San Pablo, is called “Credence”. How cool is that?

this is really cool...thank you for sharing this! your video brought back so many memories for me as i lived on the corner of Balra and Stockton Ave. i attended Portola High in 66-68, then after a year at Salesian High in Richmond, went to ECHS from 70-72 and graduated that year. one day, my American Experience teacher at ECHS, who knew i liked Creedence, pulled out his yearbook and showed me the graduation pics for John and the guys. years later, after Creedence broke up, i went over to Fantasy Records just to check it out and one of the front office people gave me a tour of the facilities including the studios where the band recorded and was able to see all the gold and platinum records the group earned. great memories but so sad that the group disbanded so acrimoniously. still love their music and always will.

John grew up listening to a lot of varied music, with a lot of it coming from the south. When developing his sound, Swamp Rock is what came about. I always get a kick when asking people if they know where CCR comes from. They always guess the south. We feel very smug here in El Cerrito knowing that John and his band mates are one of our own! -Nick Danger, Third Eye.

This is a great tour of their childhood homes. I have done this tour also I believe after watching this video and reading John’s book..I went to see the other band mates homes also. I drove by Fantasy Records and Cosmo Factory where they rehearsed. I also toured John’s home in Albany where he made Centerfield. I had a great time in El Cerrito. It’s beautiful with great views of the East Bay.

Thanks for the feedback. Living here in El Cerrito made the video pretty easy to do, especially after reading John’s book. Your response got me walking over to Stu Cook’s childhood home on Brewster, which is a short distance from where I live. There is so much CCR history here, everyone I talk to is surprised that there is not more recognition of the band here in El Cerrito. A CCR museum would be nice. Probably because the band broke up on such ill terms, it will never happen, which is a shame.

It's very nice for a CCR fan who sees this from Buenos Aires (Argentina). I was 11 years old when I heard CCR for the first time and from that moment I knew that Rock and Roll was the music that would make me happy forever. And CCR was in my opinion THE BEST Rock band I ever heard. At that moment I wanted to imagine what the place where they lived and played would be like. Today I can see it. Thanks for this video. If you have any similar ones about Doug or Stu, please upload them.

Thanks Sue. My wife Leslie also grew up. In Kensington, on Yale. She graduated from ECHS in 67 and went to Cal. Thanks for the input. I enjoyed doing this vid after reading John's book. It's well worth the read!

this is quite interesting and VG! i've really enjoyed it! i found myself getting out my CCR CD's after running across a 1969 CCR live concert video on YT. just like everyone else on earth i grew up listening to them. i've always considered john fogerty, paul McCartney, john lennon, eric clapton, & elton john to be geniuses. sat back in awe of the music, creation & song writing. JCF touched and moved many people and the music always will forever, IMO. this was really cool! i really enjoyed it and i thank you very much for sharing this! i thumbed up'ed the video!

Huge thanks for this. Longtime Berkeley resident who lives near the Fantasy Records building and have always been perplexed about El Cerrito not making a big deal about CCR and having tours like this, especially since I do a lot of self guided architecture tours and stair walks around here with my partner.

Hi, Nick, I ran across your vid while looking up EC Recycling Center on Yahoo. Not only is this about John's childhood, it's pretty much mine. Was raised in Kensington (Berkeley Hills) but went to Portola (RIP) and ECHS. I currently live on Ramona Avenue between Solano and Portland, near Albany HS. I went to UCB and CCR used to park a flatbed truck on Bancroft Avenue and play their tunes at lunchtime. I was pretty sure Suzie Q was written for me--lol. Thanks for the nice walk in my neighborhood!

I went to Del Mar Elementary in El Cerrito which at the time was somewhere around the street from the high school maybe close to Portla junior high. I live just down the street on Everett Street. My mom had a small daycare out of her home as did Tom and John‘s mother and that’s how she knew them. My mom knew them before they were famous and I guess I met them a few times, but I don’t remember I was too little. They were already pretty famous by the time I was born. Pretty cool to see it again. BTW
John got his music back 2023

It wasn't Saul Zaentz that name John's Group the Golliwogs that was Sol and Max Weiss who own Fantasy. Because John, Stu, Doug, and Tom were original called the Blue Velvets. Saul didn't buy the company until October 1967.

There are no swamps in California. John wrote all the stories about life on the river, based on the Mark Twain books he read.
