I Went into the Forest to Learn about a Modern Style PREFAB HOME and it was worth the Trek!

  • I went deep into the forest to learn more about a popular prefab home. There are a lot of prefab homes options available but very few grow their own wood, this might be the only one. Masaya Homes is building ADUs with reforest teak grown in Nicaragua and shipping them to the United States. In this video I learn more about the process and what it actually looks like in real life. Watch and learn more about Masaya Homes.

This is exactly the type of project that Nicaragua needs. I was in the Matagalpa region in 2009 - the deforestation for coffee and cattle was horrific, with serious negative repercussion for the people due to soil depletion and the hazards of mudslides during the rainy season. Bravo to them for their mission, and thank you for highlighting them!

Aram & his team do great work here in Nicaragua. The deforestation problem in Nicaragua is real, and this is a great way to fight the problem.
I'm writing from a 250 lb. masaya & co desk right now, have owned it about 7 years - made out of native hardwood here in Nicaragua. Its definitely the best desk I've ever owned. Many here in Nicaragua that personally know Aram and his team know that they make incredible furniture and stand by their products.
I'm super excited to see the next chapter in their vision: the teak prefab homes. Hopefully we'll get one here in San Juan del Sur soon. And thanks Kerry, this video was awesome! Next time long sleeves and pants when you're deep in the jungle - I know it sounds crazy since its so friggin' hot, but the extra sweat is worth the protection from the jungle environment. ✌

My recommendation for fast tree growing. Generally, hemp seeds can take anywhere from 70 to 140 days to reach maturity, with some varieties taking longer then others. It is a mush better wood and also termite proof. It is a heather wood to build with. It is a fast growing tree. Check it out when you have time. South Louisiana, James ♏

Is there enough biodiversity among the one species of tree growing to provide food for any other plants and animals besides those that do best in teak forests? Yes, their homes are beautiful, however they are very much on the expensive side for sure ($300k-445K) and you still have to buy the land. The only real benefit is the time to install it and the overall quality compared to a stick built house. Otherwise your are looking at $500k for a 2&1 unit!

OMG, what's wrong with YOU? These people are doing something innovative and commendable. Kerry strives to show a wide range of projects. This one may not be for you. Everything is not about YOU. Many of us here are interested in all types of concepts. If you can't appreciate something because it isn't for YOU, move on and Shut The F*ck Up.

Yeah you're only planting one type of tree though they can't be good for the environment in other words you need to be planting all the types of trees that are native to that land don't you understand what I'm saying you might look like it's okay like you okay but how does it help the ecosystem if it's only one type of tree it doesn't that's the answer to that question also it causes people to get allergies because these trees aren't supposed to be in this much abundance they're supposed to be you know an equal amount of this type of tree that type of tree in this type of tree you know what I mean like multitudes of trees different species of trees that's what they're supposed to be planting and that's how it is around here like people will plan a tree but they tend to only plant the pine tree and the pine tree is not the only tree that's native to this area you know it's Elm trees all kinds of trees oak trees people don't want to spend the money to plant native to the land trees
