  • Lands and Mining Watch Ghana (LMWG) urges President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo to intervene and restore order in the mining sector, emphasizing the need to uphold the rule of law and protect Ghana's interests, particularly its stake in Adamus Resources. The group voices concern over the disregard for court orders and calls for immediate action to address this issue.
During a press conference addressing the disregard for court orders and the protection of Ghana's interests in the mining sector, LMWG's convener, Solomon Owusu, condemns the judiciary's blatant disregard for the rule of law.
Solomon Owusu highlights the involvement of security agencies in facilitating illegal gold exportation despite pending injunction applications, undermining public trust in law enforcement integrity.
LMWG reveals alarming revelations regarding illegal schemes orchestrated by certain individuals, including Angela List, to export gold valued at over 7 million USD from Adamus Resources. This unlawful activity underscores the urgency for accountability and transparency in the mining sector.
"The contempt displayed by Angela List and her cohorts towards the clear directives of the Accra High Court regarding the constitution of an Interim Management Committee (IMC) for Adamus Resources is deeply troubling. Despite the court's unambiguous instructions, our investigation has uncovered no evidence of an appeal lodged against these orders. This blatant disregard for the rule of law and the judiciary's authority is unacceptable and demands immediate redress".
"It is imperative that the Government of Ghana fulfills its duty to protect its interests, particularly its substantial 10% stake in Adamus Resources. However, the concerning indifference exhibited by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources in addressing this matter promptly raises serious doubts about its commitment to upholding the nation's sovereignty in the mining sector. Furthermore, the collusion of certain security agencies in facilitating the illegal exportation of gold, despite a pending injunction application, undermines public trust in the integrity of law enforcement institutions and calls for urgent investigation and corrective action", he stated.
The group calls upon the media, civil society organizations, and all stakeholders to unite in demanding accountability and transparency from relevant authorities. The restoration of the rule of law in the mining sector is essential to safeguard Ghana's interests and ensure responsible governance.
