The Marvel license is owned by Disney and Marvel Snap is banned in the USA right now. This is just banks strong arming a private company to be on the stock exchange. If ByteDance (TikTok and Marvel Snap) caves to this pressure, their products will be unbanned in the US. NetEase (owner of Rivals) is already a traded stock on the exchanges so it won’t get banned.

This hit me hard. As someone who had played SNAP daily since beta(little over 2 years now) I did NOT see this coming. Yes this tik tok ban is so anti American. This some china or North Korea level censorship that people are getting brainwashed into thinking is a good thing
America banning Tik Tok is more to do with political reasons. Israel / Palestine and free speech. Sadly games became the collateral damage in these ridiculous bans.
free market as long as long you censor anything about b*mbed children and being friends with people in countries our overlords deem to be "foreign adversaries"...
As an almost 20 year old here in the US, it baffles me to see what this nation has done. Yeah, I'm still extremely young, but I've always been into history and been to the capital a few times to know that all this is not what America is supposed to be. It's gone corporate and has lost the best interest of the people. Things like this really show just how powerful a government is and where their true intentions lie. They don't care about our safety, they care about having money in their pockets. I say this because we've been having drones come from off the coast in a general area for months that our government has seemingly overlooked. But Tik Tok is their top priority because it's Chinese and we don't like them. I do think this is still the best place to live, and still feel patriotic, but for the old America. That's my Ted talk as a young person's point of view. Trump seems to have the general interest in mind, not holding my breath though
As someone who's almost 40, this is why it's worth looking back a bit farther into the bigger picture. Things like Google have been blocked by the Great Chinese Firewall since 2010 because it allows the Chinese government to block information completely from their populace for anything that they want to censor. This means that companies that do data collection that work with the US government are blocked in China… but China has companies that have as much or even more egregious data collection that also work MUCH more closely with the Chinese government around actively monitoring user data that it makes available internationally - and expects other nations not to restrict them the same way. That's not operating by the rules of a free global market, it's just bypassing the way things get sold so that you have a more direct relationship to the product vs. buying a Chinese-made product that's been allowed to be stocked in a store or something similar, which also happens when security concerns are discovered in hardware like Chinese-made cell phones that can compromise user information as well aren't allowed to be sold in the exact same way. Essentially, the issue is that China has a long established one-way relationship that gives the Chinese government & military a huge tool for conducting espionage, information manipulation, & disinformation within the US and directly to US citizens, by doing what they already do within their own country to other nations via apps like TikTok in what information it shows vs. what it suppresses there while APPEARING to present information onjectively. The Chinese government does that while blocking anything that might allow that to ever happen to going the other direction (ex: Google). That's why this all came up as a national security concern specifically with regard to TikTok's parent company, AND why the decision was made so that the parent company had to sell to a US company so that user information wouldn't be shared in a way that's in a position for being directly being used by a foreign government with a history of doing this exact type of disinformation and manipulation. If anything… this is the opposite of an example of the oligarchy issues of corporate ownership that are rampant in the U.S. government. The lobbying leverage that most companies have is what allows them to get away with things like this regardless of the government protections that are SUPPOSED to be in place. If anything, this is what you should expect the government to do for ANY company that's scraping personal information, but lobbying prevents that. It's why GDPR in the EU is the only reason websites _have_ to allow you to opt out of some of those things - because the U.S. government is VERY corporate owned. This issue is adjacent, but very difficult at its core.
And they know we're on to them too, so now we're hearing the excuse that it's about "propaganda" instead of data. But it's all made up fear mongering to justify their trying to eliminate competition for US companies that they can invest in (or be bribed from).
Videogames are political. Even if you don't notice it. And as corporations, yeah they need to be in political spaces. They always have been. ESRB for example, was because of politics.
Even if Marvel Rivals is a NetEase game, it was made using Unreal Engine, which is Tencent's engine. So yeah, it can still get affected, if anything Unreal Engine might get banned in the US too.
Bytedance didn’t sell because there was no us buyer they didn’t sell out of principle. The extension is just going to delay the inevitable. This is a matter of who blinks first, the us govt or bytedance
The fact that you said necessary and important is crazy. Is tiktok bro. Is not that deep. People in the other corner of the world has to care about not getting killed while you sit on your privileged chair and say "this is so important! they are taking away my entertainment app"
Hey Stylosa. I study law and I can say with about 90% certainty that this video is just fear-mongering clickbait. The battle to ban TikTok has been an ongoing process with various hoops the government has had to jump through. I understand that on paper, it might look like just because a Chinese application got banned, more will, but this is so unlikely that the only way this would end up happening is if the next administration made an effort to do this (highly unlikely) and if there was significant evidence that this posed a security risk to the United States. The only reason I say 90% is because if it comes out that rivals or riot is harvesting your data in some intrusive way, then someone could target them. The legality of removing every single Chinese application is a dubious proposition at best, however.
It is not fear mongering. It is a real possibility. There are no proof even now that Tiktok is national security threat. Bytedance is not even a Chinese company but a Singaporean company based in China. Tiktok was just banned because of politics and it is a big possibility that others will take advantage to take out their rivals that are owned by chinese companies. Remember Facebook, youtube etc. spent million of dollars to lobby the U.S government to ban tiktok and helped spread the narrative of national security threat because it benefits them to have a competitor gone or forced to sell to one of them. Already there are calls to ban Rednote another social app that is owned by a chinese company where tiktok refugees went to as a form of protest against the tiktok ban and an F to Mark Zuckerberg/FB.
the law doesn't mention tiktok or byte dance by name, it gives the government a lot of freedom as to what foreign companies they want to go after, right now it's being targeted at tiktok but they can easily target something else
Before I lost access, I saw a few videos saying that when going to Facebook, they had a prompt saying to link your tiktok account and how Facebook had just started an account. Something weird is going on.
Actually, Trump lost the youth vote on Tik Tok by 11 points. Trump also tried to ban the app during his first term. It's no secret he's not a fan of "CHAINA!" and I wouldn't hoid my breath on the idea of flip-flopping Trump reinstating Tik Tok.
Yea I think Tiktok is done in the U.S. Trump probably will try to get a last minute deal with tiktok to make himself look like a hero. But I don't see anything more Tiktok can compromise on. They already moved their servers to the U.S and made tiktok separated from their other App Douyin because of the request by the U.S back then. Short of selling their algorithm or maybe trump asking for bytedance to sell/open their algorithm to the U.S there is nothing left. And bytedance will certainly not sell their prized algorithm or allow the U.S government to place "auditors/spies" on their board like what happened to ZTE which destroyed that company.
Kind of a moot point, no republican candidate has ever been even close to winning the “youth vote” since the 1980’s when Ronald Reagan made some gains. Nowadays kids vote Democrat until they get their first real career job and have to start paying heavy taxes and then they vote republican as they get older 😂
@ we don’t need to save the comment that’s not some kind of great prediction, everybody knows that’s the play. And actually Stylosa just said exactly this in this video. And Trump came out and said he thinks it needs to stick around so it came out of his own mouth as well. It’s not 3D chess, that’s the obvious play and everybody knows it. Silly of democrats to play into his hand like that. He’s gonna come out and make a big speech about how in his first day in office he brought HAMAS hostages home and freed Tik tok.
@@AceWerewolfhe is more interested in appeasing investors. Investors cannot buy stock in ByteDance and this ban is an attempt to change that. The only reason Trump is getting involved is so he can claim he was involved in the intimidation of ByteDance if/when they go public.
this explains blizzards shitty budget, they probably spent it all bribing the us government for their own benefit lol Edit: too many people failed to realise that this is satire so I had to point that out for you guys
That has literally nothing to do with it is a part of what this video is even about. It’s a law enacted by the US congress and Supreme Court, blizzard does not control those.
@Pumpkien15 with enough outright hate OW has been getting since rivals dropped, even some they actually don’t deserve despite all their mistakes, it is entirely logical for someone to think you were being literal. In fact another comment thought you were genuinely talking about Blizzard’s relationship w/ the US gov. As well. So yeah your comment was not obviously satire to people.
if companies, no matter where they are from, could stop with these shady data collection practices it would be nice. I don't want american or chinese companies to violate my privacy or sell my data without my knowledge/consent
You are missing a lot of information. The 90 day extension is only allowed if an offer is on the table. Rivals is not under threat of ban. The reason stated on US data is due to a 2018 law that forces Chinese companies to comply with Chinese Intelligence operations. The concerns is that the tracking of interactions with content by current and future leaders could create blackmail material. Additionally there is concern that China could compel manipulation of the FYP to suppress and promote China’s interests. Now absolutely US Social Media companies absolutely love this and support it and lobby for it for economic reasons. Marvel Rivals isn’t really under a threat, because while it may be absolutely embarrassing to find out that a world leader is a Jeff main, it’s not exactly the type of blackmail that can ruin their careers or personal life if made public.
The moment Marvel's rival is shut down, there will be outrage for two weeks, and then people will forget about it in the next two weeks; it is a flash in the pan.
@@LouiseBelcher69 see, you say you really like the game, but someone who really liked it wouldn’t be calling it “a flash in the pan”. They would be wanting it to continue as long as possible and hoping the best for it.
I enjoy the game, but I disagree with the ban in America. I believe it should remain in the country. I believe the ban is temporary due to TikTok, which is my point of view.
Trump can only temporarily reinstate TikTok based off the law as written. The problem is that only kicks the can down the road as this is a statutory thing and cannot be changed except by an act of congress. The same congress that enacted the law in the first place. Further, even if Trump just does the illegal and says he won't enforce the law, the threat from any future administration means the people won't defy it because the penalties will then be ridiculously high as it's a per day penalty.

Always hated and stayed away from tiktok. It's pathetic to see this generation basically live for it. It sais in the t&c's all this collective data and gathering from households technology through broadband ip. Im in uk so this ban don't affect me, marvel snap was still active, and this new law in us will only make game Devs move or be bought out to stay alive. As of today i believe there's 90 days until next decision of this tiktok ban. At the end of the day it's the people's stupid own fault for not reading what there signing up for he's only basically cleaning house and protecting the ppl. As for rivals with it's success it'll be bought out by a different developer and like you said in video Disney own marvel so it won't get destroyed.
Because it’s single player unless they start storming into houses to hunt down each and every system with it installed there’s no way too since it doesn’t use internet
They could force Steam to delist it. They cannot do anything to those who already own the game (it's just a business restriction, not an actual ban on owning the product), but you would need to sail the high sees for any upcoming DLC.
No. They aren’t going after Chinese owned games and apps. They’re going after apps that might pose a security risk. Black Myth Wukong is absolutely not one of those games as it doesn’t access your network.
@@coldplaysgames6695 That's just wishful thinking. But it is unlikely that Wukong would be affected, the most likely ones to get blacklisted are mobile game publishers.

Not likely, snap was only banned because it's publisher is owned by the same company that owns tiktok. Marvel rivals is made by a different company, whom currently isn't under the same suspicions. Though i'd argue that there is no such thing as private companies in china, so it could happen, but if netease goes, say buy to most games in general.

As much as I love rivals, I completely understand the desire to ban companies from overseas that don’t give the US government a percentage of the money made. That’s exactly what they do to us. The only reason a ban would go through is if they refuse. The door is open, the reality is that it’s the greed of the Asian companies that will dictate whether or not they will be banned.

I mean is the same with supporting censorship, you (not you specifically) support it today because the censorship aligns with your ideals. Tomorrow, when thats not the case and you are the one being censored, you are not going to support that.
Yes, and no. The government can buy itself into any company, and they do do this a lot, but they don't really "run" these companies. But they can, and do pressure them into doing their bidding.
Politics have been in gaming since the beginning. We can also see Tetris being directly affected by politics. So it's kinda scary that Trump campaigned for a tiktok ban before, now is flip flopping. Keep learning and paying attention cause there's a lot of back deals.
Unsubscribed. Too negative and too much misinformation. Marvel Rivals is crashing my whole PC in new ways every day. Started 'normally' from just closing the game while playing to black screens to suddenly boosting all my PC fans to 100% to changing my default sound output. Chinese games are something else....
Marvel snap got banned 2 days before I spent 50 bucks on a bundle great 🤣 we live in a free country oh wait sorry I guess we the people let that happen 🙄 Dubai here I come 😂
This again is a misunderstanding. Marvel is not a Disney IP. Disney owns the rights to produce film and television adaptations of Marvel characters. Netease has no dealings with Disney. They acquired the license from Marvel comics to make this game.
Losing rivals would suck. Losing all those other apps i really could care less about. Maybe make western games great again and we'll stop paying for Chinese shit. Simple

Using this and saying that the US will able to simply ban companies they don’t like is dishonest and fear mongering. Like this or not it’s being done because of the data collection practices and the influence the platform has is allegedly a national security risk. Whether that is actually the case or not, it’s not simply because the US officials don’t like the app. Many of them use it.
Meanwhile; TH-cam is advertising stimulus money scams, viagra knock-offs and borderline CP content to the children. But we aren't China and we're 'Merica so we have to be right.

But it's also just be difficult to effectively keep away from people given the freedmon of computers. So nah, i doubt you'll be stopped from playing marvel rivals any time soon
It's a uniquely US anti Chinese mania. In 2019 Trump tried to spin up a cold war with China but EU said " nope " and it ended at that. They just want to hold all the cards in social media control of information, and TikTok was just too free for the "land of the free".

@ why though? the US already collects and sells our data, the idea that china having that same data is somehow catastrophic or inherently nefarious is just a racist and xenophobic notion. we are an important asset to china just like china is to us
like you said in this video, this comes down to Data collection and the way that the company was doing it with TikTok. they were given a few options and they went with the childish one of saying "then you cant have it" they could have changed there Data collecting prosidures, had over control of Data collection to a non-Chinese company to handle what infomation is being collected. i think with marvel snap it is just the back-lash of TikTok being banned since that was there biggest sorce of Infomation gathering and revenue
I also worry they will start doing this to other gaming companies because they send the wrong "message" or something in their eyes. Its basically like how Nintendo sued palworld for the ball thing, they can do it again, again, again, and AGAIN. This could apply to other companies not chinese as well.
I doubt the US will come after chinese video games. The primary national security concern is the political influence TikTok could give China over the American people. Video games are rather apolitical, so Marvel Rivals is probably safe.

Trump is literally pro dystopian
The excuse is data. The reason is Meta is a public company and the congress buy lots of stocks. Now they make more money
When Mark Zucc steals user's data its fine but when a chinese company do it that's where they draw the line. Hypocrisy.
And they know we're on to them too, so now we're hearing the excuse that it's about "propaganda" instead of data. But it's all made up fear mongering to justify their trying to eliminate competition for US companies that they can invest in (or be bribed from).
VPNs service charge will sky rocket once asian games are banned in USA

The fact that you said necessary and important is crazy. Is tiktok bro. Is not that deep. People in the other corner of the world has to care about not getting killed while you sit on your privileged chair and say "this is so important! they are taking away my entertainment app"
Have to remember that Marvel Rivals has Disney lawyers and lobbyists to stop politics from impacting their profits...
And yet marvel snap was targeted
Prove it. Just cause you say you are something doesn't mean you are.
I also study law, and this is a legitimate question.
No. This is a perfectly reasonable video to make and a question that needs asking.
the law doesn't mention tiktok or byte dance by name, it gives the government a lot of freedom as to what foreign companies they want to go after, right now it's being targeted at tiktok but they can easily target something else
And bytedance will certainly not sell their prized algorithm or allow the U.S government to place "auditors/spies" on their board like what happened to ZTE which destroyed that company.
hes gonna paint himself as "the great saviour" of tiktok and appeal to the youth. save this comment

That seems to be the MO. Create a problem, then offer a solution to said problem and BOOM, you get to paint yourself as a hero for fixing something that YOU caused
Trump giveth and taketh away.
@@wielderofthetriforce1934 That is literally what politicians do. IN EVERYTHING. Dont think is different when it comes to social politics bro. Thats the whole point of populism, I create a problem, I offer a solution, in the middle we spent some money that should go to resolve the problem, and after I barely fixed I give you the advertisement to vote for me. Welcome to politics. And im not talking about Trump, every single politician do this, Kamala too.
I hear the part of Netease that owns/works on Rivals is based in SIngapore.... dunno if this is true but might mean Rivals is safe due to that
Bad video. Gotta thumbs down this one, mate. Stop spreading misinformation and click baitikg folks with fear
@@jbama82 Are you slow? Everyone is talking about this on X this is big news. Marvel Rivals is not 100% safe you’re severely delusional if you think they can’t come after that game next.
@@Aggro224 your delusional. The ban was because of data being stolen from social media. A videogame does not hold as much useful consumer data as social media.
Crazy how US tries to be about freedom and free market.
It lowkey sounds like Stylosa wants Marvel Rivals to be banned.
I mean hes not from United States right? why would he care that much if this only affects people from United States
@@NeyennThe chances of this game surviving longterm are way lower if US players are all banned tho.
@ I mean yeah they could lost a quarter of the player base but still. This game is huge worldwide, I dont think its gonna kill it in anyway.
9:50 that's literally what meta did. So I wouldn't ever be surprised if someone like blizzard tried the same tactic to get marvel rivals banned. Why innovate and compete when you can just ban?
"The land of the free", yeah, just like North Korea
To compare the US to North Korea you must be under the age of 15 or extremely naive. You’re only showing how ignorant you are.
@@Millicente He meant that the US is slowly turning into China or North Korea with it's bans and restrictions
@Millicente hyperbole fs but it's a slippery slope we are significantly under more judicial and legislative pressure on us now than there were in the 70s
Lol u can't actually think this country is anything like North Korea
just like 1984 meme
"We're worried the youth are being turned against us so let's make sure they are!"
The youth needs to fight back against the government to truly show the real freedom and not the bs the us government says is freedom
god i love how the world is completely controlled by a bunch of out of touch fools that don’t even know how tik tok works 😂 i don’t even like the app but stuff like this is insane. we let people who don’t even know how to use the internet write the rules on how it can be used, insane, and a consistent theme not just in government but in every single industry in the US
Justified ban
@ why though? the US already collects and sells our data, the idea that china having that same data is somehow catastrophic or inherently nefarious is just a racist and xenophobic notion. we are an important asset to china just like china is to us
Tecnically, does that mean US based game companies are forced to buy back stock from Tencent or other US Hostile country investors?
like you said in this video, this comes down to Data collection and the way that the company was doing it with TikTok. they were given a few options and they went with the childish one of saying "then you cant have it" they could have changed there Data collecting prosidures, had over control of Data collection to a non-Chinese company to handle what infomation is being collected. i think with marvel snap it is just the back-lash of TikTok being banned since that was there biggest sorce of Infomation gathering and revenue
It’s not childish. It’s a very strategic decision because they didn’t want to sell their algorithm to a competitor.
letting a country with its own privacy laws filter its own data being sent to another country is not censorship@@joshuacollins9316
I also worry they will start doing this to other gaming companies because they send the wrong "message" or something in their eyes. Its basically like how Nintendo sued palworld for the ball thing, they can do it again, again, again, and AGAIN. This could apply to other companies not chinese as well.
Why are you fear baiting ?
It’s a legitimate concern with what’s happened.
4:23 LOL! Nice one there (make sure you notice my own pun)
The TikTok ban is a good thing imo.
Think of what else it could effect moving forward.
I doubt the US will come after chinese video games. The primary national security concern is the political influence TikTok could give China over the American people. Video games are rather apolitical, so Marvel Rivals is probably safe.
I prefer TH-cam shorts anyways
True. Some people just don't believe you if you say you don't use tiktok, but youtube shorts is just more convenient and has a more dynamic algorithm.
@@FlowingAquadynamic algorithm suspected of funneling users into political polarisation
Personally for me I despise shorts of any kind, I try not to get trapped in scrolling endlessly because I feel like I’m wasting time and slowly ruining my attention span. If I do watch shorts it’s on TH-cam and I only watch the ones that pop up on my home page. Have a nice day/night
If Marvel Rivals ever gets targeted and NetEase is forced to sell the game to a US company like Microsoft or something, at that point I would MUCH rather the game get banned in the US. Any US company will RUIN the game, it'll be WORSE than if the game gets banned in the US.
Speaking of the president, I apologize on behalf of the US for what is about to happen on Monday. Know that I as well as many other Americans are embarrassed with our choice of “leader” and I hope foreigners won’t hold it against us too much. I can only hope that the Hell that’s about to break loose will convince people that their actions have consequences and that they will own their mistakes and take responsibility for their choices. It’s time to put on a show.
Cope and seethe.
No, you do not apologize on behalf of the US.
Over half the population voted for him
Liberal trash
I'm with you man. I voted for Harris myself. Our country is about to go down a dark path. It's sad.
Nobody cares
I really hoped it was to get predatory games, pay to wins, skin buying, battlepasses, was going away for good, cancer gaming of 2000.
Europe > USA
What?? Europe is notorious for over regulation!
Yk what hell yeah
I cant wait until Muslims take that content over
The.. continent? Really?
Comparing continent to a country doesnt speak highly of your intelligence.
It's not just rivals that's could be the next target. And them banning rivals when Disney played a role in making it? Yeah, good luck with that and not expecting disney to fight tooth and nail back
It’s worth noting that regular TikTok users doing see anything wrong with TikTok, however experts of modern day China like the TH-camrs Sepentza and Laowhy86 from The China Show are hugely against it. Of course you don’t see anything wrong with it, you don’t know anything about it! Look those guys up and educate yourselves!
