  • Honda’s venerable hatchback sees big changes for 2015. How big? How about a new platform, new engine and transmissions, and a new look. The new 5-door is 1.6 inches shorter than the outgoing model, but also weighs in at 100 pounds more, due to more substantial use of high-strength steel in its construction, which provides significantly bolstered chassis rigidity for added safety and improved handling. Despite its shrinking dimensions, the Fit’s new platform actually expands on both front and rear passenger space dramatically.
    A new suspension design allowed engineers to move the rear seats nearly 5 inches farther away from the front, netting rear legroom that now exceeds the generous amount offered in the Accord sedan. The tradeoff is a drop in cargo space, which goes from the 21 cubic feet found in the 2014 model to 17 cubic feet, turning a former segment leader into a mid-pack runner.
    Powered by a 1.5-liter, direct injected four cylinder motor making 130 horsepower and 114 lb-ft of torque (increases over 2014 of 13hp and 8 foot-pounds over the outgoing model) the Fit is capable of hitting 60mph from rest in a fairly brisk 8.5 seconds. Our tester is fitted with a six-speed manual transmission, and while we enjoyed rowing our own gears, we did note that the clutch was less receptive to being hustled than we would have liked.

    Kinda liked the older one better. The old design reminded me of the Ep3 Civic si. This one's design...I'm not too sure. Looks like a small van from the outside. I do like the interior though

      Have to agree. The interior is nice, but the outside could have been refined better.

    I like this design of the Honda Fit. My aunt that lives in Cochran, Georgia has a red 2005 Honda Fit. She bought it brand-new at Hughes Honda in Warner Robins, Georgia. I remember going with her to the dealership so she could buy one. Honda has done an amazing job with their cars.

    To me the tails on this generation of the fit remind me of the 96-00 civic hatchback.

    admittedly, i'm a honda fan boy, but i absolutely love most everything about this car. oddly, what would be the dealbreaker for me would be that manual change from fresh air to re-circ. but who am i kidding? i'd be in an EX-L anyway.

    The engine has that clackety clack noise reminiscent of a diesel engine. That's because of the direct injection, which is also used in diesels. Now of course the gasoline engine has spark plugs. Direct injection allows for a mulch higher compression ratio (foe gasoline engines) that can run on regular unleaded, as compared to a port-fuel injected gasoline engine. That's because fuel is injected into the combustion chamber immediately before the spark plug fires. No opportunity for the fuel to detonate prematurely (knock)

      But probably in noise, DFi engines loose a lot.

      It also has a timing chain which is stronger but more noisy than a timing belt.

      People who want a reliable vehicle that gets superb gas mileage, has huge cargo capacity for its size, a nice pleasing interior for long hours of commuting, and can accelerate decently enough. Few other cars in this class compare. A lot of us have good memories of Honda's old hatchback Civics in the 90s and this Fit is a true successor to it.

    • @okm88
      @okm88 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      oldtwins over 10 liters per 100 kms is not superb in real life situations..the figures which car manufactures produce rarely achive that of which they state..especially from a car of that size. By the way Honda Transmissons in Jazz's/Fit's are utterly unreliable (autos)

    • @oldtwins
      @oldtwins 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      chrisbest1000 Name a non-hybrid, non-electric, non-diesel (diesel fuel is $$ in the US negating any fuel savings) car of the same quality, same acceleration, that can do better. Honda is well known to provide CAFE MPG figures that are understated, unlike Ford or Hyundai (notoriously overstated). The CVT in it is unproven because it's new (like almost all CVTs out here), so don't know what relevance it has to your unreliability statement.

    • @okm88
      @okm88 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      oldtwins All our family vehicles that were Honda have had a lot of brakages to their transmissions which were all autos. Also my mother has no family here so the only vehicles she had were Hondas and the current one is another Jazz which has been even more problems than her others. Another thing is my fathers side, all he has ever owned were big v8 luxary brands such as a amgs and such but as of now we only have diesels exept our Holden Crewman which is 05 and a big meaty v6 3.6l which is well over 2t's so of cause its not effient.
