"Some Like It Hot" is a song recorded by the Power Station. It was the first single released from the group's 1985 eponymous debut album. Released by Parlophone Records in 1985, the song features loud, prominent drum beats from Tony Thompson and lead vocals from Robert Palmer. The video featured model Caroline Cossey (also known as Tula).

Power Station was a supergroup formed 1984. It was made up of singer Robert Palmer, former Chic drummer Tony Thompson, and Duran Duran members John Taylor and Andy Taylor.

Legendary Chic bassist Bernard Edwards produced these guys.
He was John Taylor's idol. John inherited Bernard's Musician Stingray and BC Rich Eagle basses when Bernard died.

One of my favorite songs from 1985. The members of Duran Duran were working on various side projects at the time. The Power Station did one album and then were never heard from again as a group. I actually still have this cassette - bought right after finishing high school in ‘85. A mid-80s 🔥 bop!

Well actually the Power Station did released another album in the 90s called Living In Fear and it's was only Tony, Robert and Andy (though John played bass on couple of songs) and that was the last time the Power Station released anything since both Tony and Robert later passed away.

I remember reading that Tony Thompson, Bernard Edwards (produced The Power Station) and Nile Rodgers played as a rock band before Chic but none of the labels would sign a Black rock band in the early 70s. I wonder if Some Like It Hot would have been close to how they sounded. The 12" single had a mix called Some Like It Hot & The Heat Is On which was very much a dance version.

I know Tony Thompson was drumming for Ecstasy, Passion & Pain until he left that band to join Edwards & Rodgers in 1976 or 1977. So, I am not sure if the band was playing rock music with Thompson. However, Thompson's major drumming influences when he was young were drummers Ginger Baker (Cream) and John Bonham (Led Zeppelin).

This song always makes me think of the tail end of my senior year in '85 my band teacher (his first year teaching) blasting this in jazz band class. Only a few of us showed up that day. I thought to myself "'isn't this too loud?" Sure enough it didn't take long for the principle to show up. That band teacher is now in prison for murdering a married couple, over valuables in their home. Life is crazy sometimes.

@@EmpressReacts That wild teacher story is just something you would expect from that time. As a teenager in the 80s I worked at McDonalds and our manager in his 30s would smoke weed with us after we closed.
      Wild times indeed.

The Power Station was a moment, the rhythm section rocks. Andy Taylor, red hot guitarist. Top choice and reaction 🔥🔥🔥 the horn section then worked on Duran Durans album Notorious, I think.

..."Some Like It Hot"!??? ***TRIVIA TIME!!*** .... letsGIT2-ITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT..... (CONT.)
-The Powerstation consists of a 'Superband"; singer Robert Palmer ("Addicted To Love"), brothers Andy & John Taylor (Duran Duran), & drummer Tony Thompson (disco / Funk Band CHIC)...They recorded this Album in TWO WEEKS, in NY's "Power Station" Recording studio...It's a CLASSIC "Dance / Rock" Album!
    - The 'Girl' is transgender Model "Tula", who DIDN'T tell anyone of her 'transition' before the Video was made....So, when it became a hit, she told everyone, and became THE first (Out) transgender Model, in a Video!! (P.S.; I think they 'knew' someway, from the 'shaving creamed beard' shot, at 4:35.....)
-The cartooned 'Dancer' ALMOST got the Video banned, because they thought she was topless (she WAS); They thought it was 'ridiculous', and, showed the REAL Dancer, wearing a leotard, and they left the Video alone, because....DUH! ...A cartoon.....
...here's the Top Ten, back in May, 1985.....letsGOtoooooiiiiitttttt...

I definitely can understand the funk/R&B influence with Tony Thompson of Chic and John Taylor and Andy Taylor of Duran Duran being a part of this. Vocals by Robert Palmer who definitely had that edge. It's a powerful combo all around. You should give a listen to their cover of Bang a Gong as well. Total fire.
