The 3 of you are just adorable; love that it's a family orientated production. My favorite parts today were Chelsi's rule about the purse not hanging out on the counter and Billy's soundbite! Your quilting knowledge and tips are exceptional and very much appreciated. Thank you for these great podcasts.
Thank you both for all you do for us!! Episode 19 was great!! You brighten up my day to see you both on youtube. I have learned so much and can't wait to start sewing today! I am also a left handed quilter! My pin heads are always on the left side of my fabric. Sometimes I do things a little different but my projects turn out great!! I am planning on retiring this year from my healthcare job and will continue to sew and enjoy my eight grandchildren. I started sewing when I was in my early teens and took sewing classes in High School. My grandmother had twenty children and loved to sew. I have been blessed to have a twin quilt that she made out of small squares of her childrens clothing. I have it on one of our beds and it reminds me of how blessed I was to be part of a loving family. Chelsi, my next project is to start on your pattern Promenade. I just love it!! Thank you again and I am looking forward to your next video in February. Happy Sewing!!!!
When I opened this weeks episode I was amazed to see the Vintage Charm quilt on the wall. I had just finished pinning a Vintage Charm quilt using Folk Tale. My husband walked in while I was pinning and said what a great pattern it was. He almost never says anything about my quilts. My biggest issue with the quilt is I don't know how I will be able to give it away because it is so beautiful. I make 90% of my quilts for our local family homeless shelter and that is where this quilt will go. Thank you Sherri for such a great pattern. Chelsi, I am also a clean freak. My friends always say that they don't want to invite me over because they feel like they really need to clean first. I actually don't pay attention to other's cleaning habits. I will tell you that if I am in any kind of funk, a few hours of cleaning up changes my mood entirely. I really related to this episode. Thanks for a fun afternoon ladies.
Yes to goal updates!, please! I'm doing well with my goals for the first time ever, and it's very much because of your podcasts. Thank you both for what you do.
Thank you guys for sharing your knowledge of quilting with us!!! It’s kinda like when we quilters could get together before Covid!! I need a Chelsi in my house to keep everything clean!! She might be mad at my next suggestion though 😬! Sherri, you could bind her quilts and she can clean your cabinets. Everyone’s happy!!😍 Looking forward to the next podcast!!!🤗
So enjoy watching you two. Only bummer is that you don’t have podcast more often. Lol. Seriously I could watch/listen to you two daily. Love your patterns, fabric lines and how much of your time you share with us all. Thanks for all you both do! Share your talent! You are both very much loved, appreciated and respected! 🥰😘
Thanks once again ladies ... always love your podcasts. You are so generous to share your advise . So funny I listened to the pod cast while doing housework.
Another wonderful podcast! And Billy thank you very much for explaining where and how to find the info. Ladies, you are so inspirational with all of your ideas and hints I do like the longer format. For me having fibromyalgia and lupus my energy level dwindles quick at 68 years old. That frustrates me. But, you both are encouraging in your ideas. Thank you all!
I always watch your shows on TH-cam but mostly listen while doing other things, but I actually watch long enough to see what quilts and products your showing in each episode. I could listen as long as you like to talk so I’m a fan of the longer shows also. I’m very much enjoying Billy’s contributions! Thank you for putting your efforts into this!
I love the idea to review goals and in depth quarterly... also allows for any adjustments and to see if they work better that way or not. I always get great ideas and great motivation from your pod casts. Thank you!
I never miss an episode and thank you for the wealth of information you share. I appreciate how invested you are in your listeners and, in spite of you both having successful businesses, I never feel you are "selling" something. As a result, I find that I want to support your business model more and have purchased fabric and patterns and excited to see what the future holds for all of you. All the best!
I love the idea of you starting to share on the first of each month where you both are at in your projects!! Can't wait to hear!! I love watching your podcasts on TH-cam!! I have learned a lot keep up the great work!!
I found a wonderful laq that I has been quilting my quilts for 14 years. The first 2 years I would pick out the pattern and thread for each quilt but after I got to know her I felt totally comfortable letting Gwen choose especially since I generally drop off 3 or more quilts at a time. She will quilt one a month and she lets the quilt tell her what it wants. I have never been disappointed. Gwen is awesome.
I once heard from another quilter to do one complete block before cutting all fabric or using your good fabric to see if you’re happy with that block and comfortable making it and that’s helped me and then I just save that block to make another quilt
Pre cuts/yardage: I am really new to this and have not been a "stasher" but when I saw Riley Blake's "Bee's Life" I bought the panel, 2 charm packs, the layer cake, the jelly roll, 4 yards of Honey Beehives yellow and 2 yards Black Honeycomb! All I know for sure is the panel and charms will be a wall hanging and the jelly roll/yardage is for a racer quilt. And that wasn't decided until after all of it had arrived and been stashed! But as a beginner, I love pre-cuts and all the great patterns based on them. There is a premium to pay for that convenience, but at this point in my journey, it's worth it. Thanks for this informative podcast!
I’m like Billy. I use both hands for different jobs. I’m a left handed pinner. I pin both ways - heads up off the fabric and heads down on the fabric. Sometimes I like to leave the pins in when I’m sewing so that the seams stay matched up. That’s when I pin with the heads on the fabric. I don’t pin too close to where the machine needle will hit. I don’t know if this answers your question or not. Love the podcast ladies!!!
I am a lefty and yes I pin the opposite from all you righties. The quilting group that I am in think I do everything backwards but I think you all do, The only thing I do right handed is cutting with scissors as there were no left handed scissors made when I was a child (tells how old I am). When I help someone pin a quilt I have to latch all the pins as they are in opposite. We lefties have to adjust with many quilting techniques. Loved the podcast.
Love the podcast! Chelsea I live in central Florida so if you ever need to get warm, and your bored, I have a sewing room that really needs organizing. Thank you both for all the advise!
currently finishing two Christmas quilts today, missed Christmas....btw...i'm the same with purses, they are not clean, i have a table by the door for purses, but we also remove shoes, not out of control if that's your personality. i have a cleaning grid system. i also wash the same laundry loads on the same days, typically i load the laundry at night and start the machine in the morning. Also I have menus planned, always have, life is easier when you're organized. i also have a couple repeat meals each week, makes the week so much easier.
I am ambidextrous too - write left handed but knit sew & crochet right handed. Mum taught us as your mum did Sherri - I know of lefties who pin the opposite way.
Thats so funny about Chelsi and cleaning. My daughter was adn still is the same way. She used to love to clean the bathroom at six years old. her bedroom was always neat and tidy, shoes all laid out in a row, bed always made.. she was and is so neat and tidy. She's a wonderful artist and crafter and is an inspiration always to me.
I have a design wall that I use for whole or nearly whole quilts depending on size. But I made myself a portable design board thanks to seeing you using them and talking about them. I love both. I also take pictures then do a black and white filter to highlight the differences in color value and volume. Thank you both!
One way I keep all of my quilt pieces organized is to lay them in a 12” square plastic scrapbooking box. They look like little suitcases and latch up with a handle. I can stack several of them up and keep them in my fabric cabinet. I used this method on a queen double wedding ring and it worked really well. I used about 3 cases.
Being a left hander i can add when i pin the head of my pin is on the fabric side. When pinning its cuz i have the project in my lap and nesting seams with my right hand and pin with the left my dominate cuz more control and the motion is left to right versus twisting my wrist and putting the pin in right to left. Hope that gives the visual. So as i sew the pins come out with the left hand. Enjoy your banter so mother daughter ❤️
Your podcasts and tutorials have really inspired me! I’m about to start my fun project for 2021 which is Timeless using the Balboa fabric collection! I’m, also, finishing the January scrap challenge which is a table runner and starting the block of the month sew along with you! ❤️ what fun!
I look forward to your podcasts! Do you put a hanging sleeve on every large quilt you make? Can you do a tutorial on how to make and attach one using your preferred method? I've watched your tutorial on how you hang your mini quilts and love those ideas.
I’m left handed also. When I pin in quilting, I put the pin head to the left of the seam. It would probably be easier and more efficient to place it on the right, but I’m also a Taurus and a bit stubborn about changing my ways 😂.
My daughter was like Chelsea except she’d be cleaning her room 11:00pm, she was a night person. We would hear her moving all the furniture around late at night. Me, I just moved my bedroom furniture after 37 years in the same place. I live in an old Victorian and my bedroom is basically the attic with curved ceilings. I have 5 windows in my room and the bed is going to block some of them no matter where I move it. I have an old fashioned metal bed frame so the light will not be blocked from the windows. Old houses can be challenging.
I so enjoyed the podcast today. Billy, you made me laugh when you said that editing is like quilting. I am a retired video editor. For years I have have said that is why I love quilting so much, very similar just different mediums. Also I write with my right hand but play sports with my left.
I am working on the Hocus Pocus Quilt that I bought fabric for back in October lol! I am determined to finish it. The top will be done this week. Then on to the next Quilt :)
Hi y’all: once again I enjoyed this. So much news and info, I too enjoy Billy’s input as I’m not the techie of the house 🤪. Thank you both so much and will be eating for what’s next! ❤️😀
I’m right handed but when I match seams I pin left because my foot has a little guide and if I pin right handed I have to remove the pin before I get close enough to the seam. Left handed allows me to get the sewing needle right into the seam with my pin still in place, I ever so slightly begin to slide it out with my left hand to clear the guide. My seams match better when I do this. I pin the beginning and the end of the block right handed and the seams left handed. Works for me.
I am left handed and I do pin with the head of the pin in the fabric with the tip on the edge. I had never thought of it as being left handed thing but it does seem “backward” to pin the other way. I’m looking forward to how other lefties pin.
Love watch you guys. I am very excited to be doing the A Quilting Life’s block of the month using Balboa fabrics. My question is for log cabin blocks that I am making for another sew along. For the light side or low volume side do you use just the collects fabric or do you add other white or low volumes? Also have either of you done foundation paper piecing? Do you like it or dislike it?
I’m left handed and prefer to pin to the left of the edge, but I do normally pin both ways depending on what I’m pinning. For example, I get more accurate seams when I pin them on the right!
I enjoyed all the information again. I do like the longer time as you can cover more questions. The questions are very thoughtful. I am interested in any left-hand ideas for sewing etc. as have 2 left handed granddaughters ages 3 & 5. No one else in close family is left handed, only suggestion given to me was to make sure to have a scissors for lefty's for better success.
I absolutely LOVE your podcasts. I really enjoy listening to the listener questions and your answers. One of the things that I struggle with the most is putting my backing fabric together without sewing it the wrong way. What are you tips on how to piece a backing for a quilt? Also, can Sheri put together a pdf of her "systems" that she has created for 2021?
Where and how do you store all your seasonal/holiday quilts? I rarely buy a fabric line. When I started quilting, I was completely oblivious to the world of fabric/fabric design. I had no idea that fabrics were only around for a limited time. It wasn't until I started watching FQS weekly livestream that I realized how complex the fabric world is with all the designers, lines, collections, etc. It makes it overwhelming. Instead I'm just mostly making due with fabric friends and family give me. I'm a longarm quilter and just started quilting for others. I have had a hard time getting "customers" and getting the word out, especially during Covid. I have had an empty machine for almost a month.
I am ambidextrous, but write left handed. I pin with the pin head on the left of the fabric. And it is because I pull the pins out with my left hand as I sew 🌻
I'm catching up, busy week. But, I feel very strongly that you should make a test block, before you cut everything. I cut one yesterday with 2.25" instead of 2.75". It makes me mark my ruler better. I have cut a giant piece of fabric wrong, and I had a fit and cut into small pieces and stomped it, before throwing it away (yes, like a toddler fit). Love your podcast.
Enjoy the family podcast. When you are releasing a new collection, how much fabric do you get and or purchase as the designers? Just seems as you release a new collection, you always have material left over and are able to do more projects combining your collections.
On both my iPad and my Android phone, when am watching on the TH-cam app I have to click on the title of the show before the show notes appear. Once you do that you get all the links etc.
I counted my charm packs last week and I have (gulp!) OVER 300 charm packs and now I understand why.... they fit my budget at that time. HowEVER, they are hanging over my head now and I can't see me sewing them any time soon. Maybe they do need to be broken down into scrap bins?
Chelsi you need to come to my house and help me with my fabric room. It is totally overwhelming! I live near the beach and would like to have time with a person such as yourself. LOL I'm in Oregon on the coast. If you would want to come just let me know! Thank you for your Podcasts. It is quite informative. Have a blessed day.
I purchased your planner and it's just so beautiful! I'm curious as to why there's only 6 blocks per week for the monthly section. When I started to write in the dates it's confusing. Help! I'm sure there's a logical reason that I just haven't figured out. I'm just now doing the sashing on my 2020 block of the month. I've really enjoyed it. Thanks for such clear instructions.
I started watching with Episode 18 and subbed. Are you guys a family? That's really cool. Anyway I wanted to watch this one because Jan. 18 is my Birthday. So I'll be watching to see what you guys are all about. I love the first block of your BOM. Churn Dash is one of my favorite blocks. I like the old blocks that have such an old history to them.
I used a jelly roll for a project and because I had started with yardage, the cuts were not the same size. I didn’t realize that the pointed edges on the jelly roll make a difference and I landed up still doing some trimming:(
My daughter and my friend is left handed and she pins the opposite direction I do and I am right handed. I pin the same way you do and the sam as my mom does. But have learned to pin the opposite way when sewing with a lefties.
Loving your podcast but I find myself buying every patter you show lol. Still bing watching since I just found you last week. Where do you find you ladders to hang your quilts? I don’t see them often and would love one.
I’m a leftie but have been a seamstress most of my life and was taught to put the pin perpendicular to the edge with the head to the right. Then all I have to do is slip it out and put it right in the pin cushion without stopping. Not sure how I could reach it if I did it with my left.
Love these! I have a question that should have been asked- how do your husbands or significant others if applicable manage THEIR chores and hobbies? How do the kids manage THEIR chores and hobbies? It’s 2021, let’s up the expectations and gender roles! This isn’t made to shame or be crazy feminist- I’m so new in this hobby and have loved it. I want us to change our mindset towards all things :)
Never add a color to a quilt you don't like I have a few quilts that I have made that I added colors I did not like but I 5hought I could get away with it because its such a little piece, but every time I use the quilt I see that piece, so if you don't like it before you won't like it afterwards
Not sure why but I cannnot download your BOM this time. I have tried several times Tru your blog and here also? Any suggestions? I really like this block too.
Hopefully this link will work for you: drive.google.com/file/d/1UrEZrCSc1nbW73PdU5Owwb481y0lbX2H/view One thing you might want to check is if you are logged into your Google/Gmail account when you open the link. That could possibly be an issue.
I love watching your podcast and listen to both of you, your ideas, tips, et cetera, but one thing that bothers me...instead of looking at the audience you talk to each other. It doesn't seem to me that you interact with your viewers very much.
The 3 of you are just adorable; love that it's a family orientated production. My favorite parts today were Chelsi's rule about the purse not hanging out on the counter and Billy's soundbite! Your quilting knowledge and tips are exceptional and very much appreciated. Thank you for these great podcasts.

Ohhhh You truly have been blessed. I’m very happy for you and can tell you will be very busy in retirement🤔🤪🥰 Gods blessings ❤️😀

Your quilts are beautiful. Thanks so much Billy for explaining how to quickly get to the blog!
What can I say, watching the two of you answering questions and offering your expertise is positively inspiring! I too love Billy’s “radio” voice.
Thanks once again ladies ... always love your podcasts. You are so generous to share your advise . So funny I listened to the pod cast while doing housework.
I appreciate long podcasts when I'm resting, sewing or doing housework. Please do more of them.

I love the idea to review goals and in depth quarterly... also allows for any adjustments and to see if they work better that way or not. I always get great ideas and great motivation from your pod casts. Thank you!
Very well done, organized and spontaneous discussion of quilting and relevant topics.

I've never tried using a B&W filter. Great idea! Thanks for sharing.
I was cleaning while listening to your podcast so there’s a tip :)

A really good one. Great questions and answers. Thank you.
I love cake! Can't wait!!
I am working on the Hocus Pocus Quilt that I bought fabric for back in October lol! I am determined to finish it. The top will be done this week. Then on to the next Quilt :)
Love the podcast and the videos. I am doing the BOM too!
I love to hand quilt. I feel the the quilt comes alive with the quilting pattern
Oh sorry I just found you guys at the beginning of the year and think you are wonderful 👏 thank you for all your help.
I love my first block of the month
Thank you!
Thank you for the sharing your Ohio star quilt! I can now replace my missing Ohio star quilts!!
I am left handed and I do pin with the head of the pin in the fabric with the tip on the edge. I had never thought of it as being left handed thing but it does seem “backward” to pin the other way. I’m looking forward to how other lefties pin.
Thank You!
Thanks for these questions...we will answer them in an upcoming episode!
I’m left handed and prefer to pin to the left of the edge, but I do normally pin both ways depending on what I’m pinning. For example, I get more accurate seams when I pin them on the right!
Im left handed and just started pinning from the left and find it easier and more comfortable.
I love you guys
I am waiting for my Happy Days Half Yard Bundle to arrive soon. Ordered it from FQS. So excited to get it!!!!
Is it possible to zoom in on the items Sherri and Chelsi show. its hard to see the items. thanks for all you do.
Woo hoo I can actually see you recording the podcast first time ever “ seeing it”!
I counted my charm packs last week and I have (gulp!) OVER 300 charm packs and now I understand why.... they fit my budget at that time. HowEVER, they are hanging over my head now and I can't see me sewing them any time soon. Maybe they do need to be broken down into scrap bins?
You could open an Etsy shop with all of those charm packs!
Fat quarter bundles and a couple 2 or 3 yard pieces for borders.
I didn’t realize that the pointed edges on the jelly roll make a difference and I landed up still doing some trimming:(
For fabric you don't like anymore (ever? Where did this come from?!), another You Tube quilter says you just haven't cut it small enough yet.
Now that’s an interesting thought❤️😀
My daughter and my friend is left handed and she pins the opposite direction I do and I am right handed. I pin the same way you do and the sam as my mom does. But have learned to pin the opposite way when sewing with a lefties.
Loving your podcast but I find myself buying every patter you show lol. Still bing watching since I just found you last week.
Where do you find you ladders to hang your quilts? I don’t see them often and would love one.
Can I get Chelsi to come organize my house? 😁
I have your organizing book. What do you classify a long term quilt
One that you work on for more than a year...
I’m left handed ,always pin with head on fabric
me too
Chelsi: You reacting to your mom reading your blog is the same feeling I got when my mom watched my video
My son is left eye dominant so he shoots his bow left handed but writes right handed. Might be what happened with Billy too.
I do the same.
I am left handed but I do pining right handed. I do sports right handed
I’m a leftie but have been a seamstress most of my life and was taught to put the pin perpendicular to the edge with the head to the right. Then all I have to do is slip it out and put it right in the pin cushion without stopping. Not sure how I could reach it if I did it with my left.
How do You cut your borders? I have my own method but there must be a different way.
If you do not want scrap fabrics or unwanted fabrics you can donate to a church that has a quilting group that makes prayer quilts.
Not sure why but I cannnot download your BOM this time. I have tried several times Tru your blog and here also? Any suggestions? I really like this block too.
Hopefully this link will work for you: drive.google.com/file/d/1UrEZrCSc1nbW73PdU5Owwb481y0lbX2H/view
One thing you might want to check is if you are logged into your Google/Gmail account when you open the link. That could possibly be an issue.
My daughter cleaned and organized my kitchen cupboards before I got my new kitchen and I couldn't find anything!!
Or you can make quilts with unwanted fabrics for the Linus Project at all the hospitals for the children's wing.
The other reason I have the pin heads sticking out is so I don't scratch myself on all the pin points.
You can sell the stash you don’t want anymore @feelgoodfibers on Instagram. You can watch her interview on #JustGetItDoneQuilts
I have noticed that all sewing machines are set up for right handed people. Left handed people just have to learn to adjust to the differences.
👍👍🥰🥰
I love watching your podcast and listen to both of you, your ideas, tips, et cetera, but one thing that bothers me...instead of looking at the audience you talk to each other. It doesn't seem to me that you interact with your viewers very much.
What happened to your camera? You are soooo far away :)
I agree. I wanted to see a close up of the pin cushion you both were given that you were sharing because I couldn’t see it too well
