i substitute and watch friendly reminders by dude taking scenic routes. instead of changing things i really stuggle with, like getting back in psychotherapy. as if self-help ever worked for people who can't help themselves) if self diagnosis would be legit I'd say I'm AuDHD, but officially i have recurrent depression for now, so it's hard mode either way. writing this comment took me about an hour.
My expirence has been knowing it's presence, and continuing to live in the same way expecting something different to happen. This was the case for quite some time, but in the last few months I've been attempting to understand it. With this I feel that I have learned a lot about myself, especially the nature of my insecurities; the root cause of it all. I have had to relinquish myself of coping habits, and many other things. The result is of this work has brought me to a good place, somewhere I didn't believe i'd find myself. My understanding of self has given me a lens in which to expand in a more positive way (in that of though and action). I feel it will be a life long journey, but I'm excited to see where it will take me
What you said about self medication resonated, I've been smoking weed to fall asleep for a few years and quit about a month ago, turns out I CAN sleep with out it whatt???
Dude, you are insane. I seriously don't get how this channel is so under the radar. You understand the topics, find quotes that align with what you're saying, and you get some of the sickest shots I've ever seen on TH-cam. Truly inspiring man, keep it up.
Do not try to stop the thought patterns, just observe them. Trying to stop them makes them more real. That's the worst thing you can do - to go to war with yourself !
A good response to a negative inner judgement might be "Yeah I hear you, but I think you're wrong" Accknowledging that it's there and disagreeing with it. Ascending it, in a way. Vulnerability and bravery are the two keys I've found most helpful with this. And patience. Sigh! Always patience. Strength and love to all of you warriors out there!!✊❤🔥🔥⚡rrraaaaa!!!❤🔥✊🏽❤🔥✊🏿❤🔥✊🏼❤🔥
yes agreed, that was a really glossed-over point he missed. Resisting the negative thoughts will only make them more persistent. You need to just accept them arising and let them show up and then leave by themselves, which they will if you just are like 'meh, negative thoughts'. We can easily choose not to freak out about the presence of negative thoughts and rather just accept them as a normal part of life. Resisting them gives them power. Resisting anything gives it power, over you. So don't sit there like he is and say 'no, no go away' to the negative thoughts... just listen to whatever they have to teach you and let them go by themselves.
Been doing TH-cam for 5 years and I struggle with this in almost every video I shoot. The fear of failure is so real and so difficult to overcome. What helps me the most is only having a limited time to film or even better only one chance to film. Otherwise I find myself filming the same thing over and over again hoping to achieve “perfection” lol
Been suffering with grief badly since the loss of my father last year - your videos have been a massive help in keeping my head screwed on mate. You deserve to and will blow up soon I'm positive
im back again. letting you know that through this whole week i kept thinking of this video, and i am now 4 days sober after 7 years straight of smoking the marry iguana. this is the longest sober period that i've had in the last 7 years, and my mind is feeling so much clearer because of it. so, thank you for calling us out about self medication, i appreciate it :) also thank you for the content you produce. you do it so well.
As someone who has a phd in self sabotage, I really appreciate this message. What is so powerful about your video is not just the aesthetic, inspired creative, but the value and accessibility you create in very heavy topics. Thank you for this art. Truly. One thing I respectfully disagree with is the "fear of failure." I always thought for the longest is was that, but the more I've unpacked that notion, the more I've realized that it's really "fear of success" that is the scariest thing when in self-sabotage mode. Failing is a symptom of sabotage, but success is terrifying because we must face our saboteur, and step into our own light, feel that we deserve it, and that is the most terrifying thing of all. It's the quote by Marianne Williamson "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us." Thank you again for fighting your saboteur or any resistance to create something so beautiful, meaningful, and magical. 🪄
Two things. Personally (and this has worked for me, but might not be for everyone) daily meditation has really helped me bat those self sabotaging negative thoughts into the weeds… they’re still there, but they’re a long way away. These things take time, but 10-15 mins a day has made a huge difference to my outlook. Secondly… this channel is truly a wonderful place to be. Thank you Justin for your time and honesty. It’s refreshing.
It's been running my life lately and I know why or how it crept in. The first step to overcoming is being aware. Thank you for this brother. Great content, well presented. Killer shots. Keep it coming! Subscribed.
Found this video just about time. I've struggled a lot with self sabotage, at times I've been unable to help myself through it. But its a journey. thank you for this video!
Your videos are incredible! I'm sincerely in awe of how you put together wisdom, creativity, amazing shots, great sound, a smooth vocal cadence and tone, with a hint of comedy. My new favourite channel. So inspiring as a human and a deep-thinking creative being ✨️
Internal Family Systems could help a lot with self-sabotage (it will help you understand aspects of yourself in a gentle way). My self-sabotage is multi-layered. Parts of it come from a fear of success. Part of it comes from old stories of not being able to cope. Great video.
It has become my ritual to watch one episode of the Monarch Journal every day at midnight as the last video of the day, to think about, right before bed. Much love.
Changing behavior requires a change in identity. People assume identity is formed by the behavior, but that’s assuming the past and future are the same. They aren’t. Change your identity, and your behavior will follow. Best practice I’ve found for changing behavior is writing down “I” statements. “I am not someone who drinks alcohol.” Or “I am someone who is capable of incremental positive growth.” Taking the negative self talk and turning into its antithesis also helps quell self sabotage. “I never get anything done on time.” Turns into, “I am someone who is capable of getting something done on time.” This works wonders for me. Instead of a passive, “Oh I should try to abstain from this negative behavior.” It becomes much easier to abstain when you decide that behavior is not a part of your identity any longer. People think to themselves, “Well I am technically someone who drinks alcohol because I have up until now.” But this only reinforces the identity as someone who does in fact drink alcohol. These antithetical statements should become your new mantra. Repeat them to your self several times a day.
And I'm looking directly at you when saying these videos are such a great and needed addition for the landscape of inspirational and thought provoking media. Thank you for these amazing Videos!
I see the point of getting a wider range of people, who are watching your videos but pls pls pls do not change because of the upcoming fame. Too much youtube channels died because of this fame and left their own path just for money and self confidence. You are a really big blessing to us so keep on walking your path and don't get to much influenced by all those Mainstream people who will find your channel soon❤🌲🧙♂️
Thank you for doing what you are doing. The filmography is gorgeous and the message comes at a time needed now, and most definitely again in the future.
4 years meditating, 3 years sober. The journey is long, still learning to navigate the turbulent waters. Gratitude helps me stay above the surface. Your channel is helping me move past my fear of failure. Thank you @justinmonarch
negative thoughts shouldn’t be something looked at as something that needs to be stopped. the problem isn’t the thoughts, it’s how we respond to and identify with them.
Another amazing video man. But I truly believe that alcohol helped me partly overcoming my insecurities since "it made them go away" and showed me what could be possible if I wasnt sabotaging myself and reflect on my inner mind. And that reflection helped me to make a change and get out of comfort zone on purpose. Of course that differs from person to person and alcohol is a dangerous drug that can easily ruin many thing about yourself and your life, but its just my thought, everybody's different.
Love your shots! Being a photographer myself, I can truly appreciate the beautiful cinematography and colour grading! And good content. You've got a new subscriber ;)
nice music! The mapping of it was also very nicely done :). Oh, and doing nothing is just so relaxing.... its like your mind finds a place for everything.
these videos are just amazing! they also remind me to strive for something individual in art and life in general, something unique to myself, instead of creating a copy of something or somebody that already exists
Funny, poignant, beautiful, concise. Keep it up! Love your work, you deserve all the praise and support coming your way! You’ve already made it, keep honing the craft my friend :)
Hey man, appreciate what you are doing. Awakening is difficult to do alone; you are a nice island to stop on and contemplate on this lil river of life.
Holy cow. Another banger. I came across your channel a few months ago and subscribed after watching my first video of yours. You have not missed once. Mr. Monarch you truly are clean as a whistle!
I’m new. Great videos! I think I need to rewatch the last video I watched about doing less to compare with this one about procrastination and self sabotage. I’m a little confused, but likely just need to reflect a bit more.
so good. much needed. thank you for the simplistic yet profound insights. (Avoid Self Medicating and Look Inward).. Easier said than done thats for sure. Nature footage stunning and is somehow a "call to more" in of it self..... love what your'e doing. Thank you!
This is a wonderful video. I've had many of the same thoughts over the years, and it was affirming in a way for someone to share that same perspective.
Thank you! This is great… I will say… while it takes a lot of work… often it takes a whole lot of doing nothing… the allowing ourselves to be instead of the distracting. The distracting is part of dissociation related to the fear… I think…. I also think focusing on the awesomeness that is in store can work with that dopamine effect… maybe? Perhaps… I do also think that the term self sabotage is maybe a little problematic. For me, it sounds as if we are doing something to ourselves on purpose. When I believe it is more coming from a survival wiring of the brain that has gone awry… but maybe you are going to get into all this… I have yet to watch your other videos. Generally I think the English language can get limiting when it comes to all the nuances of our existence…. just a handful of thoughts… I will add that I am in my late mid life and am very thankful that younger people like yourself are taking these topics on. I hope that more young people see your channel and feel supported. 😊
I feel its important to note that trying to stop negative thoughts isnt always the best method. I often find it more effective to observe negative thoughts and let them pass, remember that you are not your thoughts.

What is your relationship to your self sabotage?

or even getting curious with your inner dialogue. The question why can open many doorways to the heart, mind, and wounded inner self.
I also like to fact check. example: "my body feels anxious but its not assigned to anything."
