    Do people not play around with their equipment? That was one of the first things I figured out prepping for my first stream. I found it easier to do PiP in Wirecast with a second Ultra Studio for what we were doing. I am sure if you had a ton of sources to swap through all the time that way may get clunky, but it works for what we needed.

    Hello Doug. GREAT video (as you always do). One question that was not answered: If I want to have my PiP persist on one specific channel but not appear on other channels, how is that done on the Atem Mini? Currently I have changed the PiP Keyer to "Stay on with transitions" but now the "Key 1" button simply alternates between on/off with each transition. My goal is to always have PiP on Channel 3 but OFF for Channels 1, 2 and 4. I would prefer to not use a macro because I am presenting standing up and I'm trying to use the mini controls as much as possible. Any direction will be very much appreciated. Thank you.

    • @djp_video
      @djp_video  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Without macros the only way to accomplish this would be to always alternate between source 3 and other sources (3, 1, 3, 4, 3, 2, 3, 1, etc.).
      If you're willing to invest in a little hardware, you could get a Stream Deck and use the Bitfocus Companion software to build some macros that can be triggered with a single button push.

    • @ClearviewTeam
      @ClearviewTeam 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@djp_video THANK YOU! I am fairly new to the Atem Mini so I appreciate you confirming my suspicion that what I was trying to do was not possible. I looked at the Stream Deck and it looks like the way to go. When you say "Bitfocus Companion software" I assume you mean that comes with the Stream Deck? Thank you again for the brilliant videos.

    • @djp_video

      Bitfocus Companion is a third party, open-source app that works with the Stream Deck.

    Hi Doug, what Switcher you use? Can i use any switcher and connect to atem software?

    • @djp_video
      @djp_video  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      My main switcher is the ATEM 2 M/E Production Studio 4K, but I also have the 2 M/E Constellation HD and a couple Mini and SDI models. This technique should work with most ATEM switchers -- and any in theri current product lineup.

    • @omReyAction
      @omReyAction 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@djp_video so it works also for atem mini?

    • @djp_video
      @djp_video  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, it should. The ATEM Mini (non-Extreme) models don't have the SuperSource feature, but they do have a DVE that you can use with Upstream Key 1. If you see a PiP button on your ATEM you're good to go.

  • @joeybaronstudio
    @joeybaronstudio 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Joey again… In the atem can you switch on a hardware controller and have someone setup something on the software at the same time like a pip or maybe media for playback

    • @djp_video

      Yes, as long as two people aren’t trying to manipulate the same controls at the same time

  • @arnelcayabyab453

    Thanks for the video. I'm still having this issue where the PIP doesn't stay. I'm using a BM ATEM Mini Pro. I followed the order of operations and the PIP shows up in the preview. But when I actually switch the angle, the PIP disappears.
    When switching angles in ATEM Software control, the PIP stays.But when I cut using the buttons on the ATEM Mini Pro hardware, the PIP disappears from both preview and program, despite showing in both windows prior to the cut.
    Any tips?

      In ATEM Setup, change the "Picture in Picture Keyer" option to "Stay on with transition" rather than "Drop with transition"

    With regard to the hazardous KEY 1 button, if we only use the red ON AIR button above it to manually enable/disable the PIP effect, will that independently control the PIP display, regardless of which video channel is selected or previewed?

    Hey Doug. We are using the 1 M/E 4K with PIP. Do you know if you can set the PIP from landscape mode to portrait mode? We need portrait for our signers (deaf signing) to get the height required for some of the signs. Landscape requires us to be too zoom out. Is that possible or will it stretch the video? Or do we need to set the HD camera on its side to get the portrait? Thanks!

    • @djp_video
      @djp_video  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can crop in on the PiP to make it look like it's Portrait, but stretching probably isn't a great idea.

    Hi Doug, I have a ATEM 1 M/E Production Studio 4K and have some gigs coming up where the background would be a powerpoint and the speaker would be PIP. However, the client is asking for 2 cameras on the speaker (Wide and roaming). Is there a way to keep the powerpoint as the BG the whole time and cut between PIP cameras 1&2? Thanks in advance!

    • @djp_video

      @@djp_video That worked great. I am now realizing that I might have screwed up going with the 1 M/E. We are looking to do a conference involving a power point. The picture in picture part is fine, but it will cover a little of the PPT presentation. Is there a way that I can shrink the PPT feed so that the PIP doesn't cover it? Can I cheat this in anyway? Thanks!

  • @jarasavelli

    Hi Doug, I’m used to Wirecast and it’s effects of side by side, is that something we can do using this ATEM 4K. Even this PIP, How can I use it both PIP effect and lower thirds. It seems ATEM restricts either DVE or luma/chroma effect.

    • @djp_video
      @djp_video  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most ATEM switchers either have multiple Upstream keyers, or at least have one Upstream and one Downstream keyer. You can use the USK with the DVE for the PiP effect, then use a second USK or a DSK for the lower third. The DVE used by the PiP isn't required for a lower third, so you can do both at the same time.

    • @jarasavelli
      @jarasavelli 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@djp_video Thank you! I will experiment. Is there a comprehensive user guide or videos for these switchers. There is no published user guide on the blackmagicdesign website. I feel like we bought this giant ATEM and not using its features at all. I feel like Wirecast was a better setup.

    Is it possible to do PIP while using a green screen background, for example 2 people in a 3 cam interview set up, adding PIP while they are keyed

    • @djp_video
      @djp_video  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have a model of switcher with multiple upstream keys you can, like the ATEM Mini Extreme or Production Studio models. Use the first USK to do the Chroma Key for the green screen, and the second USK with the DVE for the Picture-in-Picture.
      Without a second Mix/Effects engine or a second switcher, though, you won’t be able to put the green screen source in the PiP window.

    • @djp_video
      @djp_video  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      brian reardon You’d need a switcher with at least 2 DVEs to do that. The 2 M/E switchers from Blackmagic Design have a feature called Supersource that can do up to four windows over a separate background

    • @djp_video
