The only gripe I have with this reel is the weight, but that goes with the size of the reel th-cam.com/users/postUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . I brought this salmon fishing up in Oswego, NY. I coupled it with a Cabela's Whuppin Stick. I had no problem pulling in a 14lb salmon. I will probably use this for surf fishing this summer and downgrade to a 3500 series Battle II next salmon season to save my wrists. All of the operations are butter smooth and the bail is nice and thick and has a solid flip to it. Everything about this reel is sturdy and strong. The drag system held up to the salmon and was also super smooth. I did use a scale to set the drag properly before going out to the river and this worked out tremendously. A bunch of other guys on the river would hook up and snap almost immediately. Just because you have a good drag system doesn't do anything if you don't set it correctly.

Great video as always. Congrats on breaking your PB twice in one day. It's been an epic year for the Chesapeake Bay this year. I've been catching fish like that on my kayak and going for a sleigh ride. I can't wait to share that footage. I look forward to picking up a reel when they come out. I'll put it to the test.

I think anyone who fishes for big striper probably has had their heart broke once or twice. We use Alabama rigs and they've broke our rigs before, or straightened out saltwater hooks. Great video!

It's possible to pop off a Palomar knot. Did it twice paddlefish snagging.
I caught a 32 inch stripper on a $14 Walmart spinning combo when I was 18. That was the hardest fight I ever had.

My biggest striper is 39 inches. Caught on a bass boat off of Montauk, LI. I did the evening run to avoid the sun. I also caught a 19 inch blue that night. And that boat uses live eels as bait. Very fun, memorable night of fishing. Oh and the biggest striper caught that year was 69 inches!

Unless you’re going for trophy striper like close to 40” and over normal bass gear is good 150 size baitcaster and 7’ MH is good
What is the largest size the new bait casters will be offered in? Possible power handle option? I like to use size 300-400 size bait casters for long casting from the bank for catfish on the Susquehanna!

the striped bass can live for 30 years, grow to five feet in length and weigh up to 70+ lbs. they migrate up the Hudson, Delaware and Chesapeake bays to spawn every year. the commercial industry removes yearly 12 million pounds + from the waterways. the recreational fisherman removes a lot more than that. they are an amazing hybrid fish that need stewardship. the reason the larger fish are not allowed to be caught is that they are the only ones keeping the entire population alive. so good on you for following the rules, they are there so we don't wipe out the entire species.

Revisit the reel after a year in saltwater and fresh and if that repainted Kastking hasn't broken down by then maybe the standards are better than anticipated. The gold standard is Shimano, Daiwa, Penn, Van Staal. There is a big difference in making a knockoff senko or a rage craw and then moving onto a reel with hundred different parts.
