I used the Banjo Minnow when it first came out and it was not segmented. I fished it like a fluke and it had a great action and caught a lot of fish. Fletchers delivery caught my attention.
The way you fished the banjo minnow was probably the most disappointing thing I've seen you do thus far. It deserved so much more respect. 🤣 You fish it like a fluke.
agreed. I also used the Banjo Minnow like the fluke, and it honestly worked really good. Largemouth, Smallmouth, and pike really loved them. The reaction bite was insane. Even to this day, I wish I could find some of the old school Banjo Minnows. I'm not a fan of the newer ones.
@@kvang254 bro can I blow your mind real quick? I still do, but not the banjo. Get yourself some Bass Assassin's (I get the big ones) get some large soft lure spring twist locks, get Gamakatsu Weedless Finesse Wide Gap Hook 2/0, and silicone tubing for spinerbaits. Put them all together you got yourself a modern banjo minnow with way more action than the original.
For the banjo minnow, the rubber band was supposed to be used to go through the eye of the hook and wrap at the tip of the hook so you can use it in weeded areas.
I remember the Banjo Minnow when I was growing up, my godfather took me to the bait store to get the deluxe box set they had w/the video tape that teaches you about how to use the lure. That was 1996 and I haven't seen them ever since, but have proven to be one of the best lures I have ever used!
Banjo minnow was my favorite lure growing up. Caught a bunch of big bass on the all white banjo minnow. The old school DVD instruction video makes all the difference. I remember emailing the guy who made them and sending pictures of the fish I caught and getting encouraging responses. Mulligan on that bait plz
e-mail? I was fishing the Banjo minnow before there was an e-mail address to request one. I loved it and still have them in my box along with the flying lure.
I too am a banjo advocate. I still use them today and they have bailed me out on a few tough bites. I actually talked with Wayne Hockinmyer "the inventor" (not sure on spelling) years ago when you could no longer order just the parts. He sent me a few large bags of the 4" originals and said he got bought out by the company and they changed everything up. He said the changes they made absolutely reduced the effectiveness of the bait. I still use the originals but have some of the newer ones too. They originals absolutely out fish the 006 version and there was even a version that had minnow patterns painted on. I had some perch colored ones that were actually great at catching big perch on a dead fall. I no longer use the rubber band weed guards cause they are a pain in the arse. Fish them like a fluke on mono with a fast rod tip. You absolutely have to have some stretch and give them time to turn with the bait. Most bites will come when you kill it and let it dead fall. Your hookset should be a long sweep. if you use the 006 version don't use the eye inserts. Just twist in a trailer hook screw keeper into the nose and thread the point of the hook through the plastic head and eye of the keeper. not as good as the original but better than the current rigging system. The banjo minnow isn't perfect and it will twist up your line but there have been days when it was the only thing I could get bit on.
Banjo minnows were best back in the early 90's with the original design. It was my go to for pond baits. I would go to it when nothing else was working. Slow fall, no weight works best. The best bait that used to be included was the neon green banjo frog. I would always and I mean ALWAYS get strikes on this lure. Have one on my wall from the banjo frog.
The Banjo was my go-to lure in the late 90's/early 2000's pong hopping. Still nothing as good as it IMO, but it took the "kit" to keep it going because of all the pieces and then they stopped selling the individual parts, only the full kit. Great action in ponds.
I remember using the Slug-O and Helicopter lure, both "As Seen On TV" lures. Mike is going to slay with the Banjo minnow. Didn't have much success myself with the Walking Worm.
Slug-O wasn't a infomercial lure. They're a legit lure and you can still buy them today. Been around since the 80's, under that name. They were the senko before the senko
Yeah tons of the fishing youtubers have access to private lakes or low use areas that's how they get good content. Most lakes, creeks or rivers in popular areas are either over fished or the fish got smart and ignore everything you throw out.
So the banjo minnow isn’t supposed to be rigged as a drop shot, it should be fished the way it’s intended. Also to add to that you need to fish it like a glide bait, hopefully this helps you out, I’ve caught striper trout and bass as well as smallmouth with the s banjo minnow
@ I mean yeah but it has a proprietary system used so it has its best results I’m not saying you can’t fish it that way I just don’t think it’d be as affective
The Banjo and the Flying lures are worth their money . Used to catch alot of fish using both . Warmouth/pansize Specks and Bass. A hungry catfish every now and then.
The old Banjo Minnow Commercial was my favorite thing to watch on TV as a kid. My dad and I would be glued to the TV like it was the PBR or something. Good times
The walking worms legit the slowly curl up when you drop em on the bottom. Juice man juice. I had se when I was 15 that was 20 freaking years ago!!!!! Dude!!
I have to give Fletcher the bullseye with the pitchmanship, It's almost as if He smoothed the fletches, nocked the arrow, pulled the bowstring, loosed his weapon and hit the bullseye!
1rod went from my least favorite character in the googan squad to my favorite. I also have adhd so it’s cool so see someone with adhd have such success and love from other people.
RTFM… 😂😂😂 As others have said, it’s not really a drop-shot rig. You attach the banjo minnow to the screw lock, slip one of the little black bands over the barb, the the eye of the screw lock then a second little black band. The small rubber band hooks through the hook’s eye and the slip over the barb foe a “weedless” rig.
Gotta give the sales pitch to Fletcher, but I will say, when the video first started and Mike started pitching the Banjo Lure, I thought that you were doing a legit sponsor spot, so kudos! My only other thought is for Mike. Love your videos and right now I just completed watching a video of 2 of the best fishermen on TH-cam. ..my suggestion is that when you do videos with lures you don't normally use, use them as intended. Read the instructions. (inside of cardboard insert in this case) You might have actually come out ahead on day 1 if you'd fished the lure correctly. If it didn't work as a swim bait that day (it does normally), THEN experiment. Keep bringing the gold Mike! You are one of my favorite TH-camrs. (Loved the stuff with Flair and LFG. You really tried some new things and showed what a true sportsman you are. That Carp bow shot hitting the fish in the air with the arrow was epic!)
That was a fun challenge to watch! I have the original banjo minnow kit in my tackle box. I've caught many bass on the banjo frogs that were part of the kit.
The banjo minnow is actually amazing. Those colors you got in that package are kind of ridiculous though. The bands are to make it weedless. The thicker hooks are to fish it wacky rig. The heavier weights are to bottom bounce it. I used to stay up and watch that commercial. Begged my parents to order me one. That summer was the most successful season I had in my whole childhood.
Finally a video from You. Was thinking maybe googan wouldn't want u to post and videos and is only allowed to be in their channels. So they csn make money off u. Gold to see a new video. I only follow googan because of u bro.
The banjo minnow had a frog that was AMAZING! I slayed some the biggest fish ever on that bad boy. Just drag it over the Lilly pads and you get hammered on the first sight of water.
1Rod, I would like to send you some lures for you to try. I hit a variety of fishes on just this lure alone. I would like you to try it and post it as well.

Hey bro. What's a ler ? Lol
My dad caught his PB bass on a Banjo minnow about 25 or 30 years ago. He approximates it to be an 8 pounder.
I remember that TV commercial, the banjo minnow was not a drop shot rig though it could be used that way it's supposed to be a swim bait.
Same. It's a soft jerk.
Let the man live lmao
Mb, gonna need a mulligan 😅
The rubber bands are the weed guards. It's a Texas rig that looks like a dropshot when assembled.
He did alright with it rigged "wrong".
Glad yall enjoyed it. I know what lures I'm investing more in now lol. Appreciate the shout out also. Keep up the good work my friend!
When can i get a pack!

Fletcher jiggled that worm the proper way- he was the main jiggler in this competition. Great energy in these colabs

I don't understand why YT fishing channels do vintage lure shows and don't pull up the infomercials on TH-cam so they know how to use them. 🤔

Love how he doesn't take out clips like when he said "Fletcher almost peged me with his worm.... wait that didn't sound right." I love it
You should try and find the Bill Dance eel from the 80's. I think it was called a dancing eel.

Dying inside watching you dropshot the banjo minnow 😆. Fish it like a fluke and it slays man.

Yes , the helicopter lure. Never caught a fish on that one. Did have a bunch of ruined twisted line !!

been a 1rod fan since 60k keep it man you’ve outdone the fishing game
Banjo minnow sold me SO hard as a kid lol
Let’s go new vid new content
You can catch bass on wooden blocks in private ponds. Start going to actual pressured lakes like we all have to fish

The fish dont seem to care
@@T-man-qu8vc they actually do especially in heavily fished spots that get alot of artificial baits used in or near it
Depends on how the water is though but you are right about that don't need a drop lead on a banjo
