I like that you explained the term small batch. I feel like it would be a good idea for you to explain other terms that are used in Bourbon, such as “bond“ and other things like that.
Bond means a bourbon aged between 4-6 years, pulled from the cask at exactly 100 proof. 👍😳👍
Small batch bourbon consists of contents from multiple barrels, single barrel bourbon contains whiskey from one specific barrel. Single barrel bourbon has more flavor variation than small batch whiskey because every barrel of whiskey has a profoundly different flavor
Bottled in Bond is just a legal classification. Means it’s bottled at 100 proof, and has other rules around the law. But mainly, 100 proof.

As a restaurant manager, this is a GREAT way to explain this to my servers! I've already shown the short to a few of them. We order the Elijah Small Batch by the case for Old Fashioneds.

My dads been on the boat they keep the Jefferson Ocean on. It’s a shark research vessel and the crew has their own barrel that they take from.
I buy all of the EC’s, not because they are small batch but because they are high proof flavor bombs and I love them!
Four Roses small batch select is usually my go to. Maybe you've done it before but you should do a four roses taste of their regular, single barrel, and small batch! Maybe not a short haha
I believe he called the single barrel a unicorn and said it was one of his favorites. I personally just bought a bottle of small batch select and am hoping I like it especially for the price. Easily the most I've ever spent on a single bottle, but I'm a cheap date so.

I used to swear by Four Roses small batch but not so much anymore. Kinda tastes sweet to me for some reason. Just tried some Jeffersons Reserve Very Small Very Old and I thought the flavor was nice. Might be my new favorite.
I do like the 1792 Small Batch @ $50 for a 1.75 ltr
1792 is an excellent regularly available bottle

“Small batch” is one of those phrases that when you repeat it outloud over and over, it sounds like another language eventually. It’s awesome, lol. Like “crayon”.

Mine was the Wyoming whiskey national parks limited edition 5yr small batch (I had it in 2021). Best whiskey I’ve ever had.

Small batch only means something to me if it's bottled above 90 proof, but usually the best stuff a distillery has is at higher proof. I find that all distillery products have their best flavored offerings at 100 proof and higher and that much of the difference in flavor is that the companies simply dilute whatever comes out of the barrels.
Elijah Craig or Knob Creek are my go to, but favorite is Buffalo Trace

I have been drinking bourbon for many years, but it was just a couple months ago. I tried my Elijah Craig small batch. I’m not home where I can look at the batch number but it was absolutely delicious. It is now one of my new favorites.
Just recently started getting into bourbon, but for the price benchmark small batch is really good.
Went on the James B. Beam tour and our tour guide said “now what is small batch? It means one less than our big batch.”

E H Taylor for me, when I can get it. Good explanation, although the sad truth is all those marketing terms don’t mean sweet f*** all. I work in the industry, and there is a lot of malarkey on liquor labels. Be skeptical.
I’ve stopped buying EH Taylor Small Batch. I’ve found that it just doesn’t justify the price of $70 in my area. I’ll take Four Roses Small Batch Select at ~$60-65.
My all time favorite Bourbon Whiskey is Bookers hands down!

Blue Note Juke Joint uncut unfiltered is the best bourbon I have ever had. Would love to find another bottle of barrel 17121.
I typically go for single barrels but I’m fond of knob creek 9 and 12 small batch 😂

I like four roses they tell you where the barrel was stored in the warehouse i try to get as close to the wall and roof as i can get because the heat from the sun brings oil out of the barrel so they taste more earthy and woody
I’m me of the good ones is Michter’s US1 small batch, it’s a $45 bottle and is really good for the price, or I’ll add another $10 and get the Woodford reserve double oaked
1792 small batch is my personal favorite
I will never buy a bottle just because it says 'Small Batch'. However I will tend to buy Single Barrels, because then I'm actually getting something unique
I just bought a bottle of Macallan 12 year scotch, not a bad buy at all and i am not a scotch guy.
That bottle of smoke wagon is my absolute favorite. I've had a couple different batch numbers but I can't identify the difference
In the first year (2020), I tried all three batches of ECBP. Since then I prefer the "B" batches, but have purchased the occasional A or C that gets rave reviews. I have a half dozen of ECPBs though😅

Only EC small batch "barrel proof" has the batch numbers.
Regular EC small batch has no batch info.
Small Batch is a marketing term like you said. It’s implied that it is better then a regular line. The Kirkland small batch from Barton wasn’t great but the Single Barrel was okay. It’s just another way for us to try them all 😂

Punchers Chance, no batch or numbers, is same price as EC small or 4 roses small and blows it away in flavor and complexity.......
Don't get caught up in the hype, find what you like and drink that - pretty easy😊
It should be barrels that have whisky that tastes exceptionally good to the Master Blender. But that doesn't mean it'll taste good to you.

Four Roses or Smoke Wagon are the go-to for me. Tried the EH Taylor but wasn’t a huge fan of it.
I Love The Small Batches. I have consumed several Elijah Craig's Barrel Proofs and they're 93 proof.
Umm no. ECBP is usually 118-127. They have been a few points lower and a few higher, never 93. The ECSB is 94, so you're confused

I use to be the same way till I found a number I liked and they all taste different but still have those EC good quality notes.
EC is the king! Screw Blanton’s. I’m not 12 and need to chase a bottle shape and gimmicky top. And it’s obviously not worth what it’s going for. They are driving the $ up with limited supply

My favorite is New Holland Dragon’s Milk Beer Barrel Bourbon
I bought about 12 small batch EC before i caught on. E.H Taylor tastes way better and readily available $46 at total wine and more at least twice a month. Smoke wagon is worst small batch i over paid for. I tend to avoid small batch and grab the cask strength or single barrel barrel strength stuff. Joseph Magnus Cigar Blend batch #84 is the most expensive small batch I have. It was bottled for michigan only and blended using 5 barrels, so technically, a small batch. For me, its all about store picks and rare picks.
I like the batch numbers on the bottle because I've gotten a bottle before that was way off from normal so I avoided that batch number after that.

And do we KNOW for sure that the different numbers ACTUALLY mean it is different (since the term is unregulated)??? As an example, have you done a blind taste test of various numbers of them and been able to clearly & distinctly taste a difference between the different numbers???

It doesn't matter what it is as long as it's BiB or higher proof to me. I'm guessing some hazmats are nasty but I don't know of any yet I haven't known any that are so far

Is the Elijah Craig any good? I’ve been thinking of buying some but I don’t make a lot of money.
I like it a lot. It's probably my favorite bottle. It usually runs around $30-$40 so it's not expensive. They also have a barrel proof that sells around $70. And they have a single barrel for around $200. I haven't tried the single barrel but the others are very good.

Elijah Craig Barrel Proof is still Small Batch Bourbon.. my bottles before this year actually say Elijah Craig Small Batch on them (they just say Barrel Proof for this year)
