    I love your panel of doctors and your Columbia Virus class instructional series! Helps answer questions I have as the daughter of a deceased doctor (chief intern & resident at large, top, public hospital in L.A. during polio epidemic of early 1950's.)
    My questions come from growing up hearing medical matters discussed at meals, and my questions are not answered by lay-oriented media reports.
    I have COPD; am taking extreme preventative precautions. Do not allow doctors to push me to take any steroids. Use OTC menthol and eucalyptus pocket inhalers and saline nasal spray with daily generic Claratine and 1 chewable children's aspirin 4 thrombotic & other cardiac prevention matters.
    I am getting a pulse-Ox measuring finger device, and portable hot steam air mister and manual respirator for my preventative care. Once I have clear directions on cleaning and keeping devices sanitary, I will start using them.
    Thx for all the clarity and the hope knowledge provides.
    Happy to hear u laughing and being human. Be careful. Be well! God speed!

    I couldn't agree more. I've been listening for years and am happy to see you all finally getting some well deserved recognition. You all helped me survive a master's degree in medical microbio, a second master's degree in public health, and are currently in my ears as I work through a doctoral program in translational biology. I play your podcasts aloud often in lab and always refer students your way when I lecture. Thanks for all that you do!

    Yes on physical distancing term. Yes, PBS comic. Wonderful episode & now I'm hooked. Easy for me, odd to think of myself as vulnerable (70, mild hypertension) nestled safely in Oregon's Coast Range. A beautiful spring. Also "auditing" Virology 2020. Much has changed since grad school. Onward!

    Thanks for your excellent audio quality. One note. It took me a few listens to hear the difference between micro tv and microbe tv. We Americans tend to soft pronounce our consonants. Especially the plosives. No worries. The content is marvelous.

    Well done with episode 600! we all appreciate your input, the discussions and all your excellent guests, if only the federal government could work together like this, with respect instead of misusing the situation for personal gain! You guys are doing an amazing job of educating people, keep up the great work!

    I think the most important thing our bodies need to fight this SARS-Cov-2 virus is time. I suggest that patients should be given antiviral drugs in a small and safe dose as soon as they begin to have symptoms or known infected with the virus. This can slow down the virus and buy time for our immune systems to build an effective defense. Don't wait until the viruses have done much of the damage, it's going to be too late even though our immune systems are capable of fighting off this virus.

    They tiger to get the sample, it was in an article that they only took a sample from one of the big cats due to the fact that they did not want to sedate all of them, but that five-six others were showing the same symptoms as the one they sedated for sample collection...

    Thanks, all. We're a neuro group working on a data set of neuropsych records (which we hope to expand to include data from Kaiser, etc.). There is an overwhelming amount of data - thousands of records - & it runs the gamut from neurosensory to neuromuscular to cognitive. Many of these patients look similar to what we see in post-op cognitive dysfunction, historically common in CABG patients, or ICU-induced delirium & dementia. But, it's not just in ICU patients. These symptoms are in thousands of patients, many without pneumonia. We hypothesize that hypoxia is causing brain damage, & if so, whether providers can help by admitting more of these patients & giving oxygen. Please consider rethinking discharge criteria, bc we see many mildly hypoxic return after accidents, seizures, etc.

    I think that, more than anything, humans tend to be infected with wishful thinking. Some people have their conspiracy theories and their panaceas, but we scientists also have to guard our thoughts against confirmation bias. I think it's only human but I also think it's usually a counterproductive trait.

    • @whoever6458
      @whoever6458 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@brakerbraker829 Unfortunately, people who are able to think outside the box, even when they are also able to think inside it, are often not able to get into the scientific, let alone the medical community. Hopefully this new disease will get people to realize how important novel thinking is in solving novel problems.
      When I hear a conspiracy theory, I usually at least investigate a little bit to see if it has any merit. I have a friend who had a delusion about the government spying on her years before their methods of spying were leaked so you really can only dismiss things when there is evidence to do so and you certainly can't dismiss things without looking at the evidence.

    The space companies SpaceX, ULA etc have huge access to oxygen supplies. They have equipment to move LOX and know how the supply chain works. This is where they could help almost immediately rather then trying to build ventilators figuring out how to convert industrial grades of oxygen or convert the equipment concentrating to medical grade or at very least pandemic grade

    Homeschooling has actually been a pleasure. In no way has it been an inconvenience. It actually got alot better once we stopped remote learning from the actual teacher. The teacher has no idea how to adapt to this kind of situation. Really beleave most of them are making more difficult on purpose to save jobs. Teachers are over paid in respects to other more essential workers. Teachers aren't as important as most ppl think. Work week hours should be reduced and parents should take more active rolls with education. Increase parents pay and reduce working week. Keep kids in school all year long and cut the school day by 1/ 3. That would make teachers work like everyone else and not stop the education process. Teachers are babied and it hurts the development of young ppl. With more cooperation we can help them be more successful much sooner and wouldnt hold brilliance from full potential. Teachers unions need to be eliminated. Those unions are greedy and harmful to future generations.

      @jrussell243 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      James Sparham seriously? Have you ever tried substitute teaching??? More emotional abuse than anyone should have to endure. You do say some things I wholeheartedly agree with- parents should take on more of the job of education and we all should work less... most teachers work extremely long hours outside of school including planning grading meetings committee activities extra curricular clubs and continuing education- it’s too much. At least that is what I BELIEVE!
