I just put a row and a half of provider beans in. I plan on getting another couple rows at least in today. They will be our main green bean crop. We have great lakes pole beans but we plant those along our garden fence. Deer eat some of those. We still get a lot from them but what we get from them are just an added blessing. I love the way the Provider beans snap.

We love the Providers too. They are supposed to be and early bush green bean, so this year as they die out we are going to follow up with the Contender bush green bean. They are supposed to be a later and more heat tolerant variety. We'll see how this works out!! We have some Rattlesnake Pole Beans growing as well!! -Lea

Those Provider bush beans were really loaded! My beans here are just popping up. I can’t wait to start eating from the garden, at least I can harvest rhubarb on the weekend!

They really have been loaded and delicious!! I still need to try rhubarb. That is one of the few things we have never tried! We have a few Swiss Chard plants that are still providing some fresh greens for us. All of our other winter and spring plants have died out now. Thanks!! -Lea

Oh, those beans! Fantastic! And the squash is gorgeous. I didn't plant any squash this year after last year's bug onslaught. Do you ever have problems with squash bugs? It was heartbreaking, honestly.

I know how you feel!! We get beautiful squash in the spring and early summer. Then the squash bugs come and we have to watch our plants slowly die, one by one. I can't stand them!! still not willing to spray anything to kill them, but makes me angry all over again every year!! -Lea

I can’t stand them things. I think everyone deals with them who plants squash. This year I planted more seeds so I hope to pull out the ones I have once the bugs take over and wait a few weeks and plant another batch for fall.

@@ladydaggerstatus That's a good idea!! We saw our first vine borer moth today. It's usually all down hill after that. Maybe the squash will keep making for a while. Fingers crossed!! -Lea

Squash that does not get germinated will turn black , not blossom end rot from lack of calcium. Trim som of the leaves so pollinators find them.

Ok, thanks!! That makes sense because it always happens at the very beginning of the growing season. Good to know!! -Lea
