    When you have grown legumes in an area of the garden, the ground has the necessary innoculant in it because the nodules stay in the ground if you leave the roots in the ground. . Beans like to be planted in the same spot like tomatoes. In fact, tomatoes and beans can help hold each other up and the are good companion plants. Just keep onions away.

      DISEASES: Plow under or remove and compost bean straw in the fall to hasten destruction of most disease organisms. For Sclerotinia spp. (white mold) control, plant at wider row spacing to promote drying of plant leaves and soil. Practice a 3-year crop rotation

    Planted half of my beans in terra-cotta pots, and half in gallon milk jugs with the tops cut off, painted black. To my surprise, the ones in the galleon milk jugs are much larger and healthier than the terra-cotta ones. Wasn’t planning an experiment - I just didn’t have enough pots.

    If you see birds like robins going after worms in your garden this spring, you're doing something right. Dolomite lime, which is the consistency of flour, not only provides extra calcium and magnesium, but it also helps keep the PH level in the soil near 7.0, which is neutral. Grass clippings make a great top mulch and it doesn't take long for it to decompose and release Nitrogen. Adding leaves from the fall is also a great way to feed the soil. Dolomite lime will also help offset the acidity many leaves increase in the soil. Great idea planting fast growing, cool weather plants like radishes and lettuce, etc while beans are just starting out. 👍

    Yahshua -- you know Him as Jesus -- was born to a virgin, turned water to wine, taught, healed the sick, raised the dead, casted out demons, walked on water, calmed the storm, and fed a crowd of thousands with a few fish and a few loaves of bread, among many other things. He was killed on the cross as payment for the sins of all mankind, three days later He rose from the dead. Forty days later He ascended into heaven where He sits at the right hand of the Father. He is returning very soon, but before He does, Satan, the devil, is coming to pretend to be Jesus/God. Satan is an angel, and he will have certain supernatural powers with which to try to fool everyone. He will, for example, be able to make fire come down from heaven in the sight of men. He will only be on earth a short time before the real King of Kings, Jesus Christ, God in the flesh, returns. When the real Jesus comes we will all be transformed into our spiritual bodies at the same moment. Jesus came in the flesh to offer forgiveness of sins and eternal life to anyone who believes and calls on His precious name!
    Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat. But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste? For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor. When Jesus understood it, he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me. For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always. For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial. Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her. - Matthew 26:6-13

    Hi, great video. I am in Melbourne, Australia, where it's winter, but temperatures are actually mild, especially in one corner area of the garden bordered by rocks where I have a raised bed. Today I measured the temperature there (on the side of the bed, not the soil) and it was 18 deg C from 10am - 4pm. I've had early broadbeans growing there for around six weeks and the plants are climbing a frame and around three foot high. They have had flowers for weeks but no beans. I saw some bees there the past few days and finally there is one bean. What can I do to get the beans to set? I've tried watering lightly (I read that somewhere) and yesterday sprinkled on some lime (I read that somewhere). The bed also has broccoli and some beetroot in it. I am watering daily. Any thoughts? Thanks.

    • @OrganicBackyardGardening
      @OrganicBackyardGardening  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thanks for stopping by! Your winter temps seems to be mild and in range of broadbean growing temps - that said, it’s definitely related to not enough daylight hours. In Melbourne, right now you are just getting out of the “Persephone Period” (May 19 about July 25) the period in which there is less than 10 hours of day light. During this time, plant growth is very minimal, and most go dormant. I would expect you’ll being seeing some change in the next month if your low temps remain mild above 5 c.
      Thanks,
      Tim

      Tim, thanks so much for your help and for the reference. I suspect the beans were listening to you as, of today, we are now up to four tiny beans! So, as you say, it seems to be related to the daylight hours. I am glad I got them started early, however, as they are off to a good start and hopefully I will see a good crop coming up soon! :) Cheers!

    Hey I'm new to veg gardening I wondered instead of using grass clipping could you instead put cardboard down and then the 2 inches of compost, will the plants still grow OK?

    • @OrganicBackyardGardening
      @OrganicBackyardGardening  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello! No, I wouldn't recommend cardboard. if anything the compost and be used as the "mulch". If weeds come up you can use dead leaves or straw...

    • @donisenberg3032
      @donisenberg3032 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you wet the cardboard really well, and add 4”-6” of compost you can do it. You need enough compost on the cardboard to keep it good and moist. The bean roots will find their way through the wet cardboard.

Then they mature before it gets to hot in mid July. Planting green beans work better here in Kentucky to have them mature by July 10th. Hard on green beans when it to hot and dry.

      Dear Friends of God......................Please research God's Time/Calendar in Genesis 1:14 before a False Sabbath law is enforced! Actions are in progress to honor a Sabbath day, “Green Sabbath”, “Laudato Si, par. 237”, etc.
      Already today, there are Sunday laws written on government books.
      The true Sabbath Is not Friday, Saturday, Sunday, etc. The true Sabbath is calculated by true time, Genesis 1:14.
      The first week.....the new moon day, the six work days and the Sabbath day.
      The second, third and fourth week........six work days and then Sabbath day.
      Genesis 1:14 is a commandment from God. God commanded us to let the lights in heaven be for days, years, etc. We are to use the sun, moon and stars to calculate our days, years, signs, seasons, Sabbaths, etc., not the Gregorian calendar or any other man-made time.
      The Sabbath commandment is one of the Ten commandments listed in Exodus 20 and It is just as important as the other nine commandments. It is to be kept!
      God has three category of days in the Bible, the new moon day, the six work days and the Sabbath day.
      God’s months start with the new moon day, which is the first day of the month. The Gregorian calendar do not start its months with the new moon day. The new moon day falls anywhere and everywhere on the Gregorian calendar.
      Sometimes, on the famous Gregorian calendar, the new moon day falls on the “Gregorian Seventh day Saturday Sabbath.”
      How can it both be the first day of the month and the seventh day Sabbath?
      This along should help a person to see that the Gregorian calendar is not true time and that the Biblical Sabbath should not be calculated by it.
      The Sabbath is a sign between God and His people Israel and whosoever join themselves to them. One law is to Israel and to the stranger. Exodus 12:48,49
      Also, research the "Seven Noahide Laws" and Education Day U.S.A. Do the “Seven Noahide Laws”
      From my research online, these laws are Jewish laws taken from their writings, namely the Talmud. The first law in “The seven Noahide laws" forbids the worship of idols.
      According to Jewish writings, the worship of Jesus, Yahushua, etc........is idolatry and is punishable by death, decapitation.
      Will these laws be enforced on all nations???
      Research the connection between the United Nations, The Presidents, President Bush, President Trump, etc. and “The Seven Noahide laws"
      THESE "SEVEN NOAHIDE LAWS". SEEMS TO BE VERY DANGEROUS TO CHRISTIANS AND TO ALL MANKIND!!
      Lastly, there is much talk online that the Jewish people occupying the land of Israel today are not the true Israelites and that the true Israelites are today now scattered throughout the nations, is this true?
      There are also other groups of people who say that they are the true Jews.
      Jesus said in Revelation 2:9 & 3:9 that someone is saying that they are Jews but are not but are the synagogue of Satan.
      If Jesus warns us about a synagogue of Satan in Revelation 2:9 & 3:9, should not we be concern?
      If the people residing in the land of Israel not true Israel, then who are they and what is their agenda for the world?
      Who are the true Bloodline Jews?
      HAVE A GOOD DAY FRIENDS OF GOD..........GLORY TO THE FATHER AND SON! We

    • @crazysquirrel9425
      @crazysquirrel9425 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We tried that. Every worm died. We tried 2 years in a row.
      Even bought commercial worm bedding and commercial worm food and even that didn't help.
      We had them in a cool dark basement that the temperature didn't change much throughout the year.
      Might try again maybe.
      Might try using leaves and some coffee grounds.
      Just hate spending all that money for them to die.

      Seek out a community garden/composting program. There is somebody in my neighborhood that has a bunch of 5 gallon buckets at the foot of their driveway, and so basically you save all of your kitchen scraps and drop them off at the drop spot and for $10 a month they give you the key or gate code to go to this farm and get as much compost as you want or need💪🏽

    I don’t know how to build bacteria in the soil
    I have prepared the soil with natural soil fertilizer prepared in the soil itself with dry grass plus fresh grass plus coconut water after two days for bacteria vegetable waste etc with little bit of water and covered by soil for a month before plant. But weather is very hot I am watering twice a day but plants are dying one per a day. It’s make me sick.
    This is the only plant I am struggling with others like okra, bitter gourd and egg plant are growing naturally only I am adding water. Can you help me.

    Have you companion planted green beans with tomatoes? If so, what spacing would you recommend between the tomatoes and green beans?

    • @OrganicBackyardGardening
      @OrganicBackyardGardening  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I grow my tomatoes one per square foot. Grow the tomatoes behind the beans. I grow bush beans at 9 per square foot. You could also trellis pole beans around the tomatoes too. I have done that.

    • @evanpost6108
      @evanpost6108 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Forgive me for being slow, would that mean the tomato is 6in from the nearest bean plant?

    • @OrganicBackyardGardening
      @OrganicBackyardGardening  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Evan Post Yep! Planting tomatoes at that close requires you to keep them well pruned and caged or grown vertically in a string trellis. Once the lower branches are pruned spacing should not be a problem for the beans. If you feel you’ll want to grow them a bit more full you can do one tomato every 4 square feet. I find packing them in and keeping them well pruned I get more output. :)

      In this video I was growing bush beans, the only grow 1 to 2 feet tall at most, the fence I used was only like 2 feet hight. You may have been growing pole peans, which can grow very high (8 - 10 feet!). I'd recommend using tall poles or a trellis! Cheers! Tim

    Are garbanzos considered beans or peas? The chickpea is throwing me off. And will rhibozium used for beans work on chickpeas?

    • @OrganicBackyardGardening
      @OrganicBackyardGardening  ปีที่แล้ว

      Garbanzos, also known as chickpeas, are considered legumes. Legumes are a family of plants that include beans, peas, and lentils. Chickpeas specifically fall under the category of beans.
      Regarding the use of rhizobium, it depends on the specific strain of rhizobium bacteria and its compatibility with different legume species. While some strains of rhizobium are more specific to certain legume species, there are also broad-spectrum rhizobium strains that can form symbiotic relationships with multiple legume plants, including chickpeas. It is recommended to use rhizobium strains that are specifically formulated for chickpeas to ensure optimal nitrogen fixation and plant health. Hello Michelle! I understand how challenging it can be to garden in a limited growing season. However, there are some techniques that you can try to extend your growing season, such as using row covers or cold frames to protect your plants from frost. You could also consider planting cold-tolerant crops such as kale, spinach, and carrots. Don't give up hope! With a bit of experimentation and patience, you may be able to produce more than one crop in your zone 2 garden.
