I was great friends with Ted when he lived in a bungalow at the foot of Niagra Street in Ocean Beach (San Diego area). We jammed a lot with his neighbor Bob Oaks. Ted was a really accomplished jazz bass player with suburb taste and elegance. Lots of great players used to stop by on those Saturday night jam sessions, which happened over some twenty years. When I knew him, he was into health food. He had a huge beard, too. I was just learning to play jazz guitar. He was a mentor - Jimmy Spero
PS. This was around 1980. He told me he was with Martin Denny for about eight years, back in the 1960's and they made a few records. He didn't have one. He had a career in Las Vegas and played with many of the greats, including Errol Garner. He also played a lot with Bud Shank. He had just retired from being a technical draftsman when I met him. His penmanship was amazing. He also had a very sophisticated sense of humor, but was essentially a quiet man. Masters in Music. Navy Band.
This is great! Thats my Dad , Ted Blake playing upright. So glad I found this video , thanks for posting.
Jory Blake SLAP like now!

The interior of the same Denny's as before. Martin Denny's "More" is playing in the background.
