This reminds me of an awesome line i heard from a well known preacher. "When the enemy reminds me of my past, I will remind him of his future" 🙏

😂 Reminds me of the awesome name God gave to His archangel Michael. In translation it means "Who is like God?" (Answer: NO ONE!)
Can you imagine all the encounters Satan has with Michael. Satan tries not to say the name, but I bet he can't help thinking it.
Each time it's a new condemnation. "Who is like God, Satan? NO ONE! Especially not you!"

Luke 5 shows Peter’s reaction to Jesus empowering the miraculous catch of fish. Instead of celebrating and capitalizing on this, perhaps thinking “Let’s do this every day and get wildly rich,” Peter falls before the Son of God and says, “Leave me, I’m such a sinful man.” Peter experiences the majesty and awe of God, which is fearsome. And yet it draws him to Jesus, because he follows Him. I pray that I too will fall before Him in full recognition of His amazing power, turning a disaster (no fish) into abundance, due to His presence.

I was 😅🤣😂 whenever TLC was describing the 13-16 year old disciples. Mostly because in was thinking about my 14.5 year old boy and how he would be acting out and getting so angry at things if he were a disciple following Jesus around the desert and dealing with people. Lol
I think I will give him a little more grace and mercy after today's recap.

Thank You Jesus🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽 I was a captive, a slave to sin and a prisoner of this world and to my flesh..thank You for breaking the chains of death, hell and the grave and giving me new life in You! You became sin and took the wrath of God upon Yourself, for me..I’m so undeserving..but You keep on drawing me and transforming my heart. Help us to keep our eyes fixed on You and Your ways. Help us to be obedient when it’s not convenient or popular. Help us dear God to endure til the end. Keep shaping and molding us to make us an acceptable vessel in Your sight. Keep opening my eyes Lord God. In the mighty and matchless name of Jesus🙏🏾🙏🏾

My God shot today was seeing how Jesus resisted temptation against the devil in the wilderness. This part sticks out to me because we saw how the devil was trying to purposely misinterpret scripture in order to trick Jesus into following him, however, Jesus knew the real scripture was able to resist the temptation through biblical knowledge. This stands out to me in two ways, number one I think it highlights the value of what the Bible recap is doing by providing us with the rise and non-biased version of scripture, seeing how Tara Dives into the real history behind the words and events that happened in scripture help us better understand it.
Another reason this sticks out to me is because it reminds me of the armor of God. When we were told to put on the armor of God, the only offensive weapon that is mentioned is the word of God. This is because the word of God can be used , defensively to protect yourself from evil and temptation, but also be used to scare away the enemy.
    God Bless y’all today!🤝✝️

God calls whom He chooses to call. I love what happens in Luke 5: 27-32. Jesus calls the tax collector to follow Him. It doesn't matter your station in life or what you've done. No one is ever too far gone for Jesus Christ to save!

My two takeaways from today's reading were:
    1. The enemy came to Jesus to try to derail him by making him question who God says he is. That's exactly what he does to us.
    2. I love that Tara reminded me that whenever the enemy came to Jesus with a twisted lie, Jesus gave him back the word. No fussing, no arguing, simply yet with authority he spoke the word of God EVERY TIME and satan had to back up and flee. But to add a cherry on top, when Jesus did that the angels came to minister to him. I had never really paid attention to that before. They came to minister to him and God does the very same thing for us.
I am so very grateful that he chose me AND called me and as long as stay connected to him and keep depositing the word of God on the inside of me... there's NOTHING the enemy can do about it. Hallelujahhhhhhhh!!! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾

Aloha, praise the Lord and good morning BR family. Jesus was tempted by Satan when he was in the wilderness after 40 days and night of fasting. He didn't let Satan win. He knew that he was led by the Spirt not by man. He said back off Satan; and in 4:4, Jesus said: "It is written Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that preseedeth out of the mouth of God". All faith and hope in God; He is where the JOY is!!!

God doesn't temp us. The devil does.
We are given God's Word as a handbook, as an instruction manual on how to live and how to combat temptation. God is good. He wants what is best for us. He gives us free will to make choices, but God wants us to follow Him. The devil wants to derail us and mislead us.
    Matthew 4:1, 3 NIV
"Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”'

Imagining the 12 Apostles as teenagers is so enlightening. Why and how has the idea of them being grown old men become such a widespread belief in our subconscious. I guess it reflects how detached from and ignorant we are about that historical and cultural context. I believe THIS is why God instructs us to STUDY to show ourselves approved....

Today’s readings cause us to consider how people live “by every word from the mouth of God” (Matt 4:4). The Spirit led Jesus into the wilderness to be tempted (Matt 4:1), and while God never tempts us (James 1:13), He does allow our faith to be tested so that we’ll be better equipped to advance His kingdom. Thus, when Jesus is hungry after 40 days of fasting to prepare Him for His ministry, He is tempted to provide for Himself. “No,” He says, “God’s word will provide for Me.” And at Jesus’ word, Peter and Andrew’s nets were provided with an enormous catch of fish. At His word, many were healed. It’s His word that causes people to repent (Lk 5:32). And it’s His word that makes things so new that they can’t even fit the old ways of doing things-“new wine for new wine skins” (Lk 5:38). God’s word provides for us by making us new, strengthening us, and giving us all we need.

When Jesus quoted Isaiah 61 in the temple at Nazareth, he stopped right in the middle of a sentence. He didn't say, "and the day of vengeance of our God." He had not come at that time to proclaim vengeance. But he WILL inflict vengeance at his second coming (2 Thessalonians 1:5-10).

“And no one after drinking old wine desires new, for he says, ‘The old is good.’”” Luke‬ ‭5‬:‭39‬ is foreshadowing of how he will be treated by the ruling Jews and explains His rejection in Nazareth. It is also something we should be careful of. Sometimes we lament ‘the good old days’ when we should be focusing on making today better.

I don't believe the devil knew that the cross was his eternal defeat. If he had known, he would not have entered into Judas in order to betray Jesus to the chief priests and officers (Luke 22:3-6). Also, 1 Corinthians 2:8 says, "None of the rulers of this age understood this, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory." I believe this applies not only to the human rulers of the age, but also to the spiritual rulers of the age (Ephesians 6:12).
So, to the contrary, I believe Satan thought that by killing Jesus, he could prevent Jesus from doing whatever it was he was sent to do that would destroy him. As Michael Heiser wrote, "Satan and demons knew very well who Jesus was. They could reason that the 'Son of the Most High' had come to restore Eden. But they were unaware of the path - that the indispensable element to the plan of God was the death and resurrection of His Son. This was something that could only be discerned after the fact." So, in other words, you could say Satan was tricked! In fact, it was the ultimate trick!

Agrees about Jesus staying at Peter's house and how old were the Apostles at the time. There is a scene in "Jesus of Nazareth" movie where when Jesus was 12 years old, The Roman Soldiers come in and themselves to food and water from the Jews. And the "Zealots" come and confront the Roman Soldiers. It is a powerful scene from Jesus's Childhood according to the movie. You brought out many good points. God bless you! Happy Easter! I have to disagree with the the point about "Satan being afraid of the cross." Satan didn't know about the cross -- we are given no indication He did. 1 Cor 2:7-8 certainly applies to Satan. Satan wanted to kill Jesus at the cross but was blind to the cross being the means by which Christ would crush Satan's head.

    @karenevans6035 ปีที่แล้ว +7

Jesus spends 40 days in the desert in preparation for his public ministry. As His fast is almost over the devil shows up for temptation. The devil is a false accuser.
When Jesus was baptized, God pronounced him as His beloved son. Directly after that, the enemy attacks His identity.
The enemy still does the same with us, God’s creation. He attacks who we are. He knows that we are God’s child and tries to take our identity from us.
Jesus fights lies with scripture. But look scripture is also the enemies weapon of choice. He pulls it out of context and he twists it. Making it mean what he wants it to mean. You need to know the whole counsel of God so you can understand it and apply it the right way.
Jesus faced greater temptations than we ever will. His Spiritual temptations are at a far greater level than we understand.
God’s kingdom is an upside down kingdom. He seeks out the unwanted and unloved, oppressed and imprisoned.
That is why it’s called the good news. But it is not good news for the jailers or the oppressors. He’s freeing the captives, physically and spiritually.
Jesus knew from the beginning that most would reject Him, but He still came.
He would be rejected by the people He loved, and feel their pain. But all who are willing, He would bring them out of bondage and into joy. He would lead them to His self.
“But he answered, “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” Then Jesus said to him, “Be gone, Satan! For it is written, “‘You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.’” the people dwelling in darkness have seen a great light, and for those dwelling in the region and shadow of death, on them a light has dawned.” From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” So his fame spread throughout all Syria, and they brought him all the sick, those afflicted with various diseases and pains, those oppressed by demons, those having seizures, and paralytics, and he healed them.”
    ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭4‬:‭4‬, ‭10‬, ‭16‬-‭17‬, ‭24‬ ‭
“And Jesus answered him, “It is written, “‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.’” And Jesus answered him, “It is said, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’” And when the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from him until an opportune time.
    Demons know who Jesus is:
Ha! What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are-the Holy One of God.”
And they were all amazed and said to one another, “What is this word? For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out!” And demons also came out of many, crying, “You are the Son of God!” But he rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, because they knew that he was the Christ.”
    ‭‭Luke‬ ‭4‬:‭8‬, ‭12‬-‭13‬, ‭30‬, ‭34‬, ‭36‬, ‭41‬ ‭

After all the horrible things the Jews went through at the hands of all the other nations around them you can't blame them for wanting to be the only ones Jesus came to save. So many times I don't understand why God does or allows what He does. But that often happens when I don't have the full picture, even in every day life. Trusting in God's Sovereignty is a lot easier when I understand the Grace that had to take place in order for me, a gentile, to be saved

We don't know everything. Only God does! I agree, we as humans have selfish desires. We are imperfect, but Jesus was our example of how to accept and love every person. GOD give us grace and mercy for our fellow humans who are also flawed and in need of Your salvation. GOD is good! We are so fortunate to be getting to know Him more every day. Several times I’ve heard Tara say that the apostles were the disciples for probably 12 or 13 years old. There’s nothing that actually qualifies that number in the Bible. Most boys in that age did not marry until they were 17 -19
possibly even in their 20s. The fact that Peter had a mother-in-law is more basis for the fact that Peter was probably in his 20s. Also, just because they were not accepted to follow a rabbi gives even more credence to the fact that they were older. That they were established in a business. They were living their lives, caring for their families which seem to signify that they could be younger, but definitely not as young as the women were who got married at the ages of 12, 13 and 14.

Good point but doesn’t really matter. The fact is they were young and that’s not what most of us were taught in Sunday school and what’s depicted in illustrations.

    Acts 13:47-48
Paul was a Black Roman Soldier killing his own people. He was not a Gentile 🤔Food for thought.
47 For this is what the Lord has commanded us: “ 'I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth. ' ” 48 When the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and honored the word of the Lord; and all who were appointed for eternal life believed.
