I love how RC could take a snippet from the bible and flesh it out into a great story.

Amen! And applying it to our lives. God has richly blessed us with such expository preaching.

Could one argue it was harder for Jesus to say “Your sins are forgiven” because He had to die on the cross to actually back that forgiveness up?

    "The Authority to Forgive"
kind Sir; I believe your title is probably one of the most "poignant" statements ever espoused....
For Peter was totally blown away; when Jesus said what He did; concerning "fishing, one's sins and forgiveness". So Jesus made it clear WHAT, WHEN and ETC; when it comes to "Forgiving".
Thus, Jesus IS the quintessential "Authority"; when it comes to forgiving. Not to mention that Jesus forgives; in a myriad of "miracle" ways; warning, comforting, bringing us; down, lifting us up, going to Heaven, etc...
Mark 2:5 When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.
Mark 3:28 Verily I (Jesus) say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men (every one), even blasphemies howsoever they shall blaspheme: Mark 3:29 But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Spirit has never forgiveness, but is in danger of hell.
(The ONLY sin any one can commit; that sends them to hell on "Judgment Day". AKA: "The Unforgivable Sin")!
But at the same time we "Born Again" Christians; are commanded to forgive too. But in no way the incredible ways Jesus forgives. One example....
Matthew 18:21 Then came Peter to Jesus, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Matthew 18:22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven. (490 times; which in essence is forever. Oh yes!) Praise His Holy Name!
One more...Matthew 6:12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
Sadly, most will never forgive, in so many ways. IE: "I will forgive you but I will never forget". What a satan-led, Godless LIE; for if you won't forget, you "Aint" forgiven nuthun "Buster Brown or Sister Suzie!". Come ON! Also, "I will NEVER forgive you EVER; for what you did!". And on and on and on. Sad indeed. May Jesus have mercy on 'em.
End of Story and I rest me case...
...In any case kind Sir, Please Pray OFTEN and Praise Jesus OFTEN; for He is the ONLY true "God Almighty"; there will ever have been. And may Jesus bless you and yours always. AMEN!
