Though many may not realize it, paper mario and the thousand year door is the best of the paper mario games yet. from graphics to gameplay. So, i applaud you nintendo fan 4 ever. nice job.
Ugh, as a child, I had nightmares of this thing. Just the suddenness of it all, and the concept of it too! But it became my favorite boss for that same reason.
+Marth of Altea (The_D0ct0r) Doopliss wasn't that scary. Well, maybe a bit, but he started becoming a sillier character as the story progressed, robbing him of any sort of unsettling aura. Things with tentacles freak me out (probably a result of this boss), not to mention it was holding the passengers the whole time, on top of freaky phase-shift animations like at 3:40. It may not seem all that unnerving now, but to put it in perspective, imagine being 6 years old and still practically illiterate at the time of fighting this boss so the prospect of it was a bit overwhelming and got ingrained into my head. I think the only other RPG turn-based Mario boss that did the same thing to me was the Chuckola boss in Superstar Saga. Again, freaky, and unsettling in an oddly fascinating way to my 6 year old mind. My childhood scribbles consisted mostly of that and the Smorg.
_ D0ct0r _ Dooplis STINKS! I HATED THAT... THAT... CREATURE!!!!! THIS IS WHY CHAPTER 4 IS THE WORST CHAPTER OF THEM ALL. NOT THE BACKTRACKING, CAUSE AT LEAST YOU WON’T GET LOST IN AN OPEN WORLD LIKE 80% OF RPG’s. DOOPLIS IS GARBAGE. AND THE FACT THAT HE REMOVES THE “P” FROM THE NAMING THING JUST MAKES IT EVEN WORSE...
@@alexniemann4387 It's more about the unexpected damage it brings once in claw form. Huff N Puff also brings up that surprise heavy damage of course; difficulty aside, in terms of "chance of dying" as a first-time player, I'd say Smorg is most likely above Huff N Puff.

So, I know this video is old and the game too, but... I'm surprised no one is talking about what this boss even IS. It is definitely the most unexpected, random boss in TTYD. My personal theory is that Smorg is the business rat's special product he was so worried about letting loose.
Am I the only one who had a super difficult time fighting this thing? Like I beat it on my first try, but I had so many close death moments and I raged a lot.
Easiest way to beat Smorg: -Equip as many Power Plus/Power Plus P as you can, and Jumpman Badges -Bring Goombella that you’ve already powered up twice to have Rally Wink -Bring 1 Thunder Rage 1) Immediate Thunder Rage to eliminate the Miasmas 2) Goombella multi-bonk 3) Power Lift 4) Goombella Rally Wink 5) Power Bounce + Multibonk Done.
Guys, they are living clouds of gas! thats why the purple ones are called Smorg miasma a Miasma is a cloud of pollution. Thats why they are made of size changing puffy balls they are clouds! And that's why they shapeshift so easily!
+bowser jr The name Smorg is associated with the term Smog, which is air pollution, thus their appearance. So yes, you'd be correct. Funny how it took me several years to finally figure that out :P
fuck this WHWEN I FIRST PLAYED THIS CHAPTER OMG I HAD NO ITEMS NO BAdges no shit IT WAS A NIGHTMARE i thought there was no boss but i was screwed back them i was like OH SHIT but after 75 times i manage to beat it
There are two badges that can do that. The Wario badge which changes you into warriors clothes is available to buy in rogue port by that guy in the plaza. And the Luigi badge is obtainable in the poshly heights museum. And if you equip both badges it turns you into waluigis clothes.
At first I was questioning why you had so few subscribers... Then I saw your HP. How are you even going to die against like, 5 points of damage at a time? Just equip some damage dodges! Oh wait, you don't have any BP because you used it all of FP. FP, who spends 10 whole levels on FP? You don't even have like, 7 badges equipped! Imagine how many power plusses, all or nothing's, or danger badges, you could've equipped with all the stats you wasted.
Omg I used to get chills before battling a boss. Ahhh goood times
I can't wait to play this on switch

The rest is very paper thin

This battle is quite the SMORGasbord.

I had nightmares of Mimi in chapter 2-3 or 4 I think where she chases you in the basement.
I'm amazed during the battle the other passengers didn't get harmed from our attacks like fire flowers and thunder rages and ice storms
Already level 30+ before Smorg? That's a lot of grinding
I finished the game with 50 HP and 40 FP. 60 HP and 55 FP at this point is excessive in my opinion.
I try avoiding all of those shitty enemies when I can. That’s why it’s biting me in the ass now
Well you can grind amazee dayzees in chapter 4 which is pretty damn early.
thats just not needed.... i had 25 hp and 55 fp with fps pluses on so basically 40 fp, i only grinded to level 30 on this boss of the claw...
I only ever died twice in this game.
One against smorg and once against shadow queen.
Not to brag but I never had problems with smorg. I'd say it's much easier than Huff N Puff.

I always buy a few thunder rages for this fight. It takes out the three Smorg Miasmas instantly during the first phase
fiery jinx does 5 damage to all enemies too, so it's useful as well.

I was having a hard time beating this guy until I saw your video. Thank you!
This boss used to be terror when it got to the claw, this was the hardest boss in my opinion
My favorite boss is Doopliss, just because of the music and his cool moves.
I beat smorg at 18. And I was trying to defeat every enemy I could. This guy must have like at least 50 hours play time. I had 21 BP, 35 FP and HP.
Me too. 18 or 19 at most. This guy over-did it.
I sometimes forget that this boss hits like a dump truck. 10 damage to both front and back row, FFS...
