@cormano64 I'd guess that they were probably limited by the cartridge size and gave very little memory to the samples to free up room for the graphics data.

Captain Commando and his crew are seriously some of the coolest Capcom heroes we've got!

Other than that, the action is very much the same.
while there's various things not here... the only thing that's really a let down is the music. reminds me of final fight on the snes. for this to be a snes port of the arcade game tho, this could've turned out worse. again, my biggest beef is the ost
Wait, the game has no staff roll? I think Capcom is trying to hide something here... this port was probably done by a third party. The quality of everything in this port is behind every game Capcom has ever made on SNES. The poor color conversion must be the only thing comparable to the other ports.
@@austinreed7343 Have heard this game was outsourced, but it wasn't Acclaim, but instead a small Japanese developer, the likes of which I can not remember, nor does a Google search turn up anything other than Capcom. If so, Capcom wait till 95 to port the damned thing, like it was an afterthought or something.
I always thought Capcom should of ported The Punisher on the Snes and Captain Commando should of been on the Sega CD instead. Shame because both ports suffered and felt wasted, especially The Punisher.
Not sure if Capcom had any intention of taking The Punisher to the SNES. Probably not, because in that case, Capcom would have developed it for the SNES and then ported it to the Mega Drive like they did with their others multiplatorm Mega Drive and SNES titles, instead of outsourcing it like they did with both Mega Man The Wily Wars and The Punisher itself (their only Mega Drive games not appearing on the SNES), so it makes total sense there weren't plans at all. About Captain Commando, maybe you know but Sega had a planned Mega CD version following the trend of their previous Capcom licensed conversions. Sadly, it never came to fruition.
@@WeskerSega Yeah, i'm aware of the cancelled Mega CD port. Shame it never came out. The Punisher would of been better on the Snes if Capcom would of put the time and money into porting it. The Sega port suffered because Sculptured Software made it.
They're both equally as bad for the same reasons, imo. Bad music, heavily censored, bad collision detection, too dark graphics, and overall heavily cut down from the arcade for no good reason.
It may be true, but it also has to be considered, going back to the arcade versions of both, that The Punisher is a more intense heavy/demanding game than Captain Commando itself. In fact, the Mega Drive version of The Punisher still reaches more characters/enemies on screen than the SNES version of Captain Commando does.
@@WeskerSega But Punisher really doesn't resemble the arcade in the looks department, Capcom maybe should've done the port job themselves, instead of farming it out (the game is FUGLY as sin). The PS1 got Cap Commando, it too was farmed out, but NOW Productions did a bang up job on the PS1 version. All in all, The Punisher on the Genesis is still a shit sandwich, one not really worth taking a bite into. I paid $40 for the cart itself about 6 or 7 years ago, no way I'd do that again, or pay even more in this age.

Captain Commando is a fun beat 'em up that retains most of what made the arcade game so good.
Shame about the music, though. Yeesh.
Is it the result of audio compression, the SNES sound chip limitations or something else entirely?
It doesn't look half bad. It's like Final Fight with a little Sonic Blast Man thrown in the mix.
But yeah, that OST...

That burning animation is hilarious 😂
Remember when this guy thanked you in the manual of Capcoms NES games?
I always found it weird how primitive and tinny this game looks, sounds and feels for a 1995 Capcom game based off a 1991 arcade game. Weird.
One of my favorite games all time
Oh yeah I remember Captain Commando, he was bad in MVC2 but his assist was incredible.
Another of capcom gems! This game had me burn lots of hours playing and the fun!
(0:06) I don't know about you guys but, there's something euphoric about that classic Capcom fanfare.
Great character. Was lucky enough to find the comic recently. Hopefully Capcom does something with the IP again.

Higher weapon spawns and useable mechs as well

Possibly even a Western third party; the music sounds a bit like it came from an Akklaim game.
What's most telling, also, at the end it reads merely "PRESENTED by Capcom"
