I couldn't understand a word they said. It was almost as though they were speaking a foreign language. I have both saws each with a Bark Box muffler and Max Flow air filter. The 661 has a bit more power but the 500i weighs a lot less... And fuel injection works much better than M-Tronic. I pick the 500i every time.
@@cascaderetriever7618 I'm old school too but unfortunately when I showed up for class I found that the whole dang school was closed. LOL When ignition points left the scene and were replaced with capacitor discharge ignition (CDI) I was pretty happy and I would have remained that happy had the engineers left it at that but they just keep on engineering. The fact that Stihl now makes an MS661 without the M-Tronic available here in North America says a lot for "German Engineering". I have one on order. I'll review it on some site after I've run it for a couple months but it almost can't be worse than the M-Tronic 661. We've had nothing but trouble with those saws. The one non M-Tronic on our cutting crew was hot rodded and it appears to me that whoever did the porting went slightly too far as it's impossible to get a consistent low speed/idle adjustment out of it. All that being said, the 500i is a pretty incredible saw aside from an occasional mysterious hard starting issue. I run a 36" light bar with an 8 tooth sprocket and 75CJ chain at .035 ground on an SDM4 and HDG. It will pull a 42" bar if need be but not with command. I have over 1000 hours on mine and I'm very satisfied with it. The test in this video wasn't much of a test but still interesting. Be safe out there.
@@biaschdlznep The SDM4 and HDG were very accurate chain grinders manufactured by the now defunct Silvey Chain Grinder Company. The SDM4 was a grinder for chisel chain bits (cutting teeth) and the HDG (replaced by the HDG6) was for grinding the rakers and the gullets that are created by the use of chisel chain grinders. I've had these grinders and used them for decades. Very precise and very well made. I mentioned this so that people would know that I'm running high quality maintained chain on my saws.
Thank u for the video. I have a 391 as my biggest saw and looking at a 661 or 500i. Mostly cut firewood and stumps on jobsite taking out big trees. I think both saws are great. Im going with the 661 and someday a 881 just for kicks. Love Stihl! Thanks again
Im sure he means bar for bar. But then again no one runs an oversize bar on a smaller just as no one carries a 22# saw around with an .043 pole saw chain.

I’m old school. I don’t like electrical sensors on my saws. I want pure mechanical

Verdict is: if you have 462 - you don’t need nor 500i, nor 661.
Yeah. right. My 066 pulls a 42 inch bar pretty well. Try that on yer little 462.

Don't think a 500 (or 462) can run a 32" bar.
@@09rja 500 can run up to 36 " bar. I am just buying 500 i with 32 " fitted .
