  • Have stripped my old 4308 reel to reel down to the bare bones just to get at the clutch mechanism. As you can see it's a bit of a mess! All I have to do now is find some new belts and some bits for my clutch plus one control knob and a speed switch. If anybody knows where I can gets the bits, please let me know?

I removed the circlip without removing the motor. No problem with small tools and a magnet

My advice is to use 'sugar soap' to get the rubber goo off...it dissolves it quickly, doesn't attack other plastic parts and can then be washed off with water!

Hello there, you've done a bloody good job cleaning all that Philips GOO. Most of their cassettes, and reel-to-reels, did that, and some record players with a belt. You can find belts on Ebay, and the little clutch rubbers can be made by cutting strips out of a flat section Hoover belt. They were flat section and not O rings. I tend to use cellulose thinners to help clean the metal bits ! Keep hold of those tiny washers, or it might sound noisy. WD40's good too mind for cleaning all the crap away. Some PYE machines were made by Philips, and have the same problem alas. I did have a quick look on my spares box, but didn't find the speed change lever you were after. But I DO have a few knobs, the silver sort with the clear plastic disc. Hope this might help !
