No need to cut anything except the headband cover. Un snap the plastic swivel from the earmuffs and rotate 90° then pull them off. Reverse to install Peltor adapter then reinstall back to the earmuffs. Simple. Only issue I have is the length of wires being a bit short for routing through my ballistic helmet.
@@drxus9609 Unity Tactical makes the Modular Attach Rail Kit, same price though. They do list Howard Leight as compatible though. I realize this is 3 years late, but hopefully it's useful for someone.
Just a quick note, you can pry the connecters right off the howard leights super easy using a screw driver. Just slip a flathead under the connector toward the end and it slips right off, causing minimal damage when removing the headset from the headband.
@@turnitdowntyler also correct but the popping of the clips means no sparks and allows for a tighter fit of the Peltor wire inserts. Use a little epoxy to prevent them from sliding off.
Thanks dude, I could never wear the Howard Leights under my helmet weaved through the pads since I run a small/medium ops core and I have an unusually fat head! This vid is a life saver!
I just pop the clips on the earpro amd cut the fabric cover for the head strap. A lot easier and no sparks. They are made to pop off. I have another set on the way for my Guarddog LVL3a fast lid.
I've been looking at helmets for nvgs and was kind of bummed that I'd have to drop serious coin on expensive muffs when I've been perfectly happy with the Howard leights. Thanks!
Even though you did find this mod, I would still look to buying better ear protection like peltors sometime in the future. Ear pro last a lifetime and Peltors produce a better seal and sound amplification than the Howard Leights. With howard leights I have to use ear plugs because they don't protect nearly as well.
Old comment i know but i own a pair of leights for the range and a pair of sordin supreme pros with gel cups for my helmet invest the money for the stuff your life depends on night and day difference in the leights vs sordins tbh
Is there a reason why people aren't simply removing the plastic piece that the wire goes in, and just using the peltor ones? Do they not fit or something?
Hey brother, very helpful video i'm planning on buying a ballistic helmet where i can still use my leights. I was thinking that you could probably put a little bit of heat on the plastic and then crimp the plastic in a sense where it grips the metal rods on the adapters for a solid fit.
@@HayWoodJobLoMe I went really cheap but the setup works great for me. I got a set of 3M Peltor X Series Helmet Mounted Earmuffs. Cost me maybe $18 at the time. They don’t connect to helmet rails, but each mount I have 4 zipties securing them in place. Had no problems yet.

I tried to do this with my unity tactical mark said and fail miserably. Maybe cause it’s to low profile? Maybe the helmet is to big but I don’t see that size restriction on the kit. Says it works with Howard lights. Cable isn’t even long enough to go around the helmet
Old school Warsport bungee system. I think you can get em on. eBay though. Just search Helmet Bungee or something like that. Tactical Bungee. A mixture of those should get you something.
Would you recommend putting a drop of superglue on the tips of the metal rods to get them to be more secure in the adapter? I wouldn't think you'd be disconnecting them anytime soon.
couldn't you use something like blue or red lock tight to solve that issue or use pliers to pinch the metal and cap on the Howard so it's a tighter fit?
You definitely could not use pliers. Maybe a hammer and a punch. I tried it with no luck. I also didn't try that hard because it's not really a big deal. Couldn't use lactate either because then they wouldn't slide at all and lactate doesn't bond well to plastics.
+Hofinator7 Thanks man. Honestly, I think the wires are too thick to make a small enough bend. I have any idea on how to make them lock on, but you'd need a couple pairs of those cheap howard leights. You have to cut the ends off the peltor adapter wires then smash the end to create your own flat in the other direction. But I really don't know that it would be worth the trouble. I've never had mine fall off.
No. These adapters only fit to the arc rail. I have made little fabric straps for use with HL ear pro under a PASGT helmet, all you need is a little nylon webbing and velcro and just copy the Peltor fabric headband.
There not screwed on, thats just a clip that holds them onto the ear pro. I don't recommend removing the connectors from the ear pro because that clip can break.
Awesome man. I'm using the Walker razors. But I'm pretty sure it will work out very similar. Thanks. There are literally like two videos on TH-cam showing this mod. Thanks brother
@@clamum hey thanks for the reply. I actually ended up doing it myself and it worked out pretty well. The only issue is that the wire on the razors is not as long as the wire on the other ones so it can be kind of tight around the back

OMG FINALLY FOUND MODS FOR THE HOWARDS
Is there another adapter I could use? The team Wendy peltor adapters are 70$
Not that I'm aware. Although I think there may be some fake chinese ones out there. Might be worth a shot because they are so cheap.
