The original Scream had trick for the audience that is legendary. Drew Barrymore was approached to play the part of Sidney but she said she was so famous that audiences would assume she would be the final girl. So, she and Wes Craven agreed to cast her as the first kill. Their trick worked and audiences were utterly shocked to see her gutted.
That scene in It Follows…. Caught me completely off guard and reminded me why I LOVE horror movies. Before that, no horror movie made me feel uneasy, it tripped me out for days after watching it. A true cinematic masterpiece.
My favourite thing about the opening to Urban Legend was the music. The poor soon to be murder victim is singing along with Total Eclispe of the Heart, telling herself, "Turn around, Brighteyes," as the killer prepares to, well, kill her.
Didn’t know the Urban Legend one, very smart concept. Anyone who has seen those actors play bad guys subconsciously still see them as the bad guy even if it’s a different film.
The Urban Legend opening only works if you don't know that particular Urban Legend, which, look, I'm not saying you have to know a bunch of them to watch the movie, but for me, that was the draw of the movie in the first place so yeah, I already knew the killer was in the backseat. It's one of the reasons I always look in the back seat before I get in the car.
The 1989 adaptation of The Woman in Black is a masterclass in atmosphere, instilling unease without recourse to jump scares. The dread of what you *think* is going to happen creeps at a steady pace until the big scare comes, and holeeee sheeeeeit, it works.
I was freaking out to the maximum when I saw it in the theater. Just curled up in a ball and hitting my friend in the arm while silently pointing in the corner like "CAN'T YOU SEE HER??!?!" and she didn't see her! She was so busy watching Peter and the door and the chair and the wardrobe that she never saw her in the corner. When that scene happens and you see SOMETHING scuttle along the ceiling and escape out, she was just like... "The fuck was that" and I was silently losing my shit the entire time.
I disagree about goodnight mommy. I feel like the movie telegraphs it’s twist so heavily and it never misdirects you to think that it isn’t the case. I honestly hate the movie for not even trying.
Hell, I've never seen or heard of this movie but as soon as the shot of the one boy on the lake came up, before Amy even mentioned anything hinky about it or gave away the twist, I immediately knew the second boy was dead.
Never understood why the Brad Dourif character in urban legend didn’t tell Michelle there was someone hiding in the backseat instead of acting all sinister and creepy.
Because it was in the script he couldn't scream it to her until she drove off and couldn't hear him but I get it seriously you can scream it once she drives away but couldn't say it when she's standing right there my kids hate when I tell them the same thing we'd be watching a movie why why Mom because it's in the script duh oh the looks they give me LOL
Gasper Noe is genius.. he ended the French Extremity film movement on a vile note.. I have remixed the soundtrack from Irreversible.. and yes I find the Subway scene necessary but, I still fast forward through it...
3:06 it’s actually really interesting how much work the fans have put into this film, and the hallways and layout of the hotel is impossible, we are shown the size of the rooms but we see that doors to rooms would open up into the main hall if they are really placed where we see them, also we see items in the background of shots move or vanish depending on who’s POV we are seeing a conversation from. There was a really interesting fan theory that nothing is actually happening at the hotel and it’s all in Her head (apart from the injury to Danny that she did them blamed it on jack) if you rewatch the film with this idea in your head you actually see a lot of stuff that backs the idea up and changes how some parts play out, eg Wendy comes and talks to jack as he is typing in the main hall towards the end of the conversation jack looks confused as Wendy walks off then he carry’s on typing even though there shouldn’t be paper in the typewriter as it was removed while they talked, well if the whole thing was in her head how the scene really plays out is Wendy walks up to jack stands there looking at him for a minute or so them just walks off of course jack and Danny would both be used to her acting this way so they just shrug it off, also Wendy knows stuff she never sees or is never told about unless the stuff she sees and knows is just her imaging what happened that’s also why there is inconsistency in it.
I mean, Dafoe _was_ giving an inconsistent performance, that's the genius of the director's idea. Inconsistency can add to confusion and fear as much as any jumpscare
Who did Jamie (Danielle Harris) kill? I've only seen Curse of Michael Myers once and it was so bad I don't remember most of it, was it in there? Yes Jamie had a violent twist in 4, 5 confirms that the whole family survived (trying not to spoil too much)?
Contempt for Gaspar Noé? Strong words for a brilliant director who's constantly out on a limb, thematically as well as technically! He never ceases to amaze me.
I mean every single channel has posted about it now & many put the movies stills in the video picture so if you clicked on it you kinda did it to yourself , you could see the movie was going to be mentioned , even if you didn’t know the still was from scream she literally says the title of the movie before going into it so you could have skipped 🤷🏼♀️ Can’t blame anyone for spoiling a movie when you had multiple opportunities to not click 😂
@@CaseyJayy92 “9 Horror Movie Scenes You Didn’t Realise Were Tricking You” is a very different title that “9 Horror Movie Scenes Where The Killer Is Revealed In The First Scene”. But Jamie didn't murder her foster mom. They retconned it in Halloween 5.
