    Hello! You use a short screwdriver (Phillips) to remove the plastic cover only. You don’t need any equipment at all to remove the metal bar.
    Just wanted to clear that up! The plastic cover does “seat” in holes on sides above and below, however, so when the screw is removed just push in a little on sides, lift up from bottom making sure the top edges are free, and gently pull out.

    Nice work! My situation: I had my fridge just over 2.5 years and the same freezer light went out. Looked on the GE App site (i.e. where registered the fridge) and it appeared to be removed from my profile which irritated me a bit. But when reading the FAQs on the product as well as other comments and reviews, I saw where the direction was to open a billable service ticket which fired me up even more.
    Nonetheless, I began googling and eventually found a video, but it was close but not the right fridge.
    I saw your video on Saturday/Sunday, confirmed the LED light strip, and immediately went to Amazon and found and purchased one for

      I love the way you navigated thru the muck…a billable service ticket 🤣 I would’ve blown a gasket.
      So glad it worked out, I loved the backstory!
      Thank you for the kind words and such a generous review. Means a lot!

    Please show how to release the cover. There is no screw on my model.

    • @RannPatterson
      @RannPatterson  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, ok I just saw this comment last. Is your model number same as this one and same year?
      Are you sure? I thought mine didn’t have one either I almost broke the plastic trying to lift it out but it would not budge from center which is how I knew there must be a screw.
      I don’t know. But if I were you, I would put a hand on each side gently push in and lift up from bottom, pull outward then you lift it up to allow the “feet” at top to release.
      I couldn’t video it because you need both hands. Keep me posted, and I if you have any more questions.

    How do u take off the plastic cover? Mine doesnt have any philip head screws. Thanks so much!

    • @RannPatterson
      @RannPatterson  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Since I can’t see your I don’t know, but I didn’t think mine did either it’s so close to top. I thought I just needed to gently push in the sides and lift the feet up, pull out, then down (I think is what I did).
      While in that process it wouldn’t budge so I didn’t want to break it so I stopped. I then felt around it and felt the “dip” in the very top, and with my fingernail pretty much knew it was an + (Phillips head) not a - .
      It was tricky. It HAS to be able to come off. Double-check the top like I did. If def no screw, then look for where the feet are, gently push and jiggle pull up and out, or down and out.
      Good luck!! Rann

    Overall good basic instructions. But...there is a tab on the back of the wire connector. If you simply pull the wire connector without depressing the tab on the back you risk damaging the wires and/or breaking the wire connector tab off; preventing the wire connector from locking in.
    The real question I have for GE is why a two year led strip quit? There seems to be a lot of failures of the LED strip in GE, HotPoint, and other brands using the same LED strip in the freezer. GE should voluntary send out new LED strip replacements specifically designed for use in the freezer. It's likely the original LED strip was not designed for use in the freezer.

      You mean like in the old phone clip-ins to wall? Maybe I missed that.
      Yes, a guy came in recently to replace a kitchen faucet and his words “nothing is built to last anymore” - I agree I think they build them to go out at the end of your original warranty!
      Be sure to check out Shop Jimmy that part saved me $50-$70. It costs that or more just for a house call. It was less than $20.

      One more thing- be glad you got GE. A person I know got a Samsung and the door won’t hold magnets which means it’s mostly plastic. My GE will.

    You do not show how to take the cover off

    • @RannPatterson
      @RannPatterson  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes that’s why I added the “how-to” above. All you need is a Phillips head screwdriver with a short handle, lift at sides and pull up. It’s easy!

    How did you remove the plastic cover? Did it have a screw ?

    • @RannPatterson
      @RannPatterson  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello-
      YES, mine does have a screw.
      I almost broke the plastic thinking it would pop out when I pushed in sides but there was resistance in the middle top; so I ran my finger along the rim and sure enough there was. Mine took a Phillips’s head screwdriver, and you need one that is SHORT. Once placed, turn it to LEFT (left = loose). Once you get screw out, push sides in slightly & lift up, and it should come out.
      Good luck!
