- No. 1 UConn plays No. 5 Iowa in the Sweet 16 of the 2021 NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament.
This matchup featured a pair of the nations top players in the Huskies' Paige Bueckers and Hawkeyes Caitlin Clark. Each freshman produced a strong second half, with Bueckers nearly recording a triple-double as Uconn pulled away to win 92-72 and advance to the Elite Eight.
Bueckers tallied 18 points, 9 rebounds, and 8 assists, and Clark scored 21 points and dished out 5 assists. The Huskies got a huge boost from Christyn Williams and Evina Westbrook, who combined for 44 points, 14 rebounds, and 9 assists.

Got the opportunity to watch the full game live instead of just highlight clips of both teams and their talented freshman. Got to see the makes and the misses, the great passes and the sloppy turnovers. Uconn made less bad choices and mistakes, and defensively had the edge the entire game. Congratulations Uconn, great team to watch.
You could tell at the start of the game both women were a bit more tense than usual, the hype around the game and match up probably got to them but in the 2nd half they really delivered what we wanted to see. Some great basketball , Crystin, Evina put on a SHOW as well

Clark is definitely a shooter. She can score anywhere, but then again, UConn's defense and team effort was a big key to this win.
I like to believe that paiges play style helped shaped this team to be such a force this season. This team is way different than what they were at the start of the season.
The Freshman did their thing but the upper class man lead the way. Complete team effort.
Boy, Aaliyah is becoming quite a force. I like her aggressive style of play-no fear in that woman.

True. She’s such an awesome offense of weapon, and it’s great because you can’t just stop one Uconn player, you have to stop them all if you want to win. Teams don’t have enough good defensive players to stop all the UConn women.

@@alexroberson4454 Yes, but Baylor look like they are all men. I am thinking Baylor is probably the best team UConn will face in the tournament. (Maybe it's obvious, because they are the defending champion.) Once they beat Baylor, there shouldn't be any problem winning the championship.

Two of my favorite teams in a showdown and you guys never disappointed. Y'all are so talented and the hard work you put in really shows. It's a joy to watch you play. An outstanding game, one of the best I've ever seen. I gotta lotta love for both teams, fan forever!

The 1st time I was awake at 1:00 am eastern time at Asia just to satisfy my excitement about this game. It's really a team game of Uconn against the mostly Caitlin centered game of Iowa. Well balanced offence led by C. Williams and 3 more in double figures + 30 assists + great defense. Paige instead playing decoy in the 1st half while other players took care of the scoring. As usual, great game for Caitlin. We need players like her for the good of women's basketball. 👍🔥💯

The players' skills are there but how a coach improved and combined these assets made the difference. Go Paige and Uconn but I liked also Caitlin. 👍🔥💯

Too fast and big on the inside so Iowa was trying to stop it but then you leave the freshman open

Both team did good. Clark and Paige fight was fun. Not a fan of either D1 or D2 team but watching ball is just fun, but as an analytic helper for my team, IOWA def struggled in the 4th and they had too many turnovers to lose to UCONN and after the 3rd quarter IOWA was only losing by 11 or 12 pts

Kudos to Iowa on a great game and Clark is truly an amazing player, but for me it was Evina Westbrook, Christyn Williams, and Aaliyah Edwards who truly powered UConn to a well-deserved win with poise, defense, and selfless offense. UConn’s ability to share the ball and have so many weapons makes it hard for them to beat, but defensively they shut down as much as you can the nation’s leading scorer. Fantastic game!

Paige is an excellent player, but she's playing with 6 other high level( blue chip ) recruits, where Caitlin Clark is playing with 1 or 2 other blue chip players. Iowa is a good team, but you could see Uconn had a definite advantage on the inside. The game was closer than the final score. UConn does not have a senior so unless some of their players leave early, they are going to be dominate again next year.

@@josiasjorgio8810 I’m really referring to the quick stops and jumping from anywhere in the 2pt land for a easy basket. Shot is butter, goes in with ease no matter where she shoots it, the sudden stop and pull up after the dribble is what really makes me think of Jordan

Wow I will get torched... Both had four players in double digits it's just that Yukon had more points in double digits plus Iowa had three players with zero... Yukon had more production out there bench.

Iowa put up a good fight albeit a little short. The scores do not do justice how the game was played.

Yes, they played 7, usually they play 8. Muhl has a sprained ankle & she has started at guard all of the 2nd half of the season
Clark got burned on another attempted push off at about 11:00. Went to that well too many times. UConn just shifted away from Iowa's preparations and Paige laid back and let the win happen another way.
What does "laid back" mean? She missed a lot of shots.
@@andrewalberico6297 she also scored 18, has 9 boards and 8 assists and only 2 TOs. She also had the two most important hoops of the night. Iowa cur it single digits midway through the 4th, which put a ton of pressure on UConn, the big favorite. Paige hit a huge 3 to take-it back to 12. Iowa answered with a 3, back to single digits and Paige hit ANOTHER 3 and that was it. Iowa never got it back to single digits again and UConn pulled away.

Great team effort for Uconn...Holy crap how good were Williams Edwards and Westbrook...Like Geno said, in a game like this with two opposing all stars, its the role players who will be the key...I think Bueckers is the better player in terms of court vision, passing and being a team player....sometimes unselfish to a fault......

I know this isn't the Baylor vs UCONN game but I just finished watching it so I'm sure the highlights won't be available for a while and I'm not sitting up waiting for it. I'm glad UCONN won. UCONN did make some mistakes but Baylor got away with a lot of fouls that the refs were standing 6 feet from and making calls against UCONN that Baylor was doing all night long. My feeling is that the refs gave Baylor 12 extra points. This gave them the momentum not their play. Defensively Baylor did play a very close game but that's where they were getting away with all the fouls the refs were allowing for them. How many times did Baylor run over or into Paige? Come on, seriously, when, when have I ever seen Paige ask the ref where's the foul? NEVER. But these were so obvious and were not being called. But it wasn't just Paige it was under the basket. And when UCONN got ahead the refs started making the calls against UCONN. What kind of refing is that? Oh were good old boys from Texas so Baylor has to win?
I'm sorry for this rant but in my opinion Baylor only was as close as they were because they got away with a lot of fouls.
Go Huskies! And I'm so glad it was Paige who intercepted the inbounds pass. That just put the icing on the cake for me! And when Baylor got a call it was like they were complaining to the refs, why did you call me for that foul? You're not supposed to be making foul calls against us.
That was one horribly ref'ed game. I hadn't seen a game ref'ed like that since my daughter played. Horrible, just horrible.
Smh. Not enough sistas on Iowa. Damn this game was good. It's hard to win against UConn without scoring high. That's just what it is.
Clark can shoot, boy - she should be drafted by the NBA, forget the WNBA. Long range bomber for sure, and accurate. Marshall and Warnock are also superb talents who can shoot really well. IMO UConn played a not very intelligent game, they had a huge advantage with Nelson-Ododa and hardly threw the ball down low to her. There was no one on Iowa who could stop her, no one. Buckets looked like she ran out of gas in the 4th quarter as she started falling short on a lot of her shots. Gene should sit her more even if she complains because her conditioning was not there.

She was definitely better this game but she is really inconsistent while Paige has been consistent this whole season. There were games when Williams went scoreless this season as a junior....
Clark needs more work on her handle and pull up with her right hand. But still, at this point, I personally think she is better than Paige.

She still has a lot of room to improve, but if her development goes right, she can be the wnba stephen curry (ok, I know it's bit of exaggerating, especially her handle is still pretty raw. It's going to take a lot of hard works, great coach and facility and luck for her to accomplish. Yes luck, if u freaking tore ur acl the moment u step on the court then how the hell are u going play and be great 😂😂😂)

@@fredarroyo7429 No diversity makes organizations/teams better. But check the Top 100 recruiting rankings, the majority are people of color. See how competitive girls basketball is in the state of Maryland and around DC (more diverse) and you'll see the level of talent is much greater than most of the country.
Your critical thinking needs improvement. You really think black athletes will flock to Iowa where the population is 91% white?
@@nianguyen5269 Maybe yours needs improvement. Because that hasn't stopped Iowa's fooball team. Iowa's men's basketball team has had many black athletes in the past, (although not as many this year). That hasn't stopped black athletes from being recruited to Madison, Wisconsin where the population is 80 percent white.
@@nianguyen5269 Iowa City is 75 percent white too. Not much different from other college towns. Storrs, CT where UConn is located is 76 percent caucasian. And yes, I am aware Storrs is closer to other cities, but student athletes primarily spend their time at the University, obviously.
