You’re actually disrespecting Louisiana Tech- where Mulkey and Teresa Weatherspoon played. Sonja Hogg was a great coach from 74-82 & they won 2 titles (80 & 81, I believe?) in the AIAW - and in 82, the first year the system changed to NCAA, Mulkey & Debra Rodman (sister of legendary Dennis, & aunt of current soccer superstar, Trinity, who’s Dennis’ daughter). They have been to many Final Fours. Leon Barmore was co-coach 82-85 then solo head coach until 2002. Karl Malone played for the men there. Underrated program now since 2010.
Arike Ogunbowale had the greatest emotional rollercoaster of an experience in national championship games, but that 3 at the buzzer to win was more than worth it!
This made me realize the Vols never beat UConn in the national title game. Like to believe those Candace Parker teams would have done it if given the opportunity
I well up because it's amazing what women's basketball coverage started out as, and evolved into, from all those years ago when I was eating, breathing and sleeping basketball. Pat Summit....there are no words. I always wanted other teams to beat Tennessee but her consistent character as a coach, whether she won or lost, was something to behold💚
Texas Tech beating Ohio State was the first time I watched because it was on CBS. That's when I got introduced to Sheryl Swoopes. 47 in a title game? Legend.
muffet mcgraw could’ve had some career … she got ND to the title game so many times n suffered so many heartbreaking defeats man! i was so happy for her when she captured her last one!
Going back and watching every women's NCAA National Championship game in it's entirety is quite the quest. For the most part every Championship game is available.

they went back to back... won the last championship of the previous system and the first of the NCAA... shame they lost in '83 tho... because that shot Kim took at the buzzer would have sent the game into OT

Its really not. The only difference is, the college kids actually have other college kids as fans cause they all go to the games. WNBA doesn't have that luxury.
SC was the best team that season. They were favored to win, and they did. It was remarkable that UConn even made it to the Finals that season; they had some key injuries and still exceeded everyone's expectations.
Geno Auriemma was a thorn in Pat Summits side. Geno had some pretty shady recruiting practices. This is why Tennessee and UConn quit playing each other in the regular season. If it wouldn't have been for Geno taking over for UConn women's basketball it would have been Tennessee and Pat Summit all the way.
Had lol. Still does and that was the reason behind their beef. Summitt always alluded to the fact UConn cheated.basically by paying AAU coaches to steer talent to Connecticut but the men’s coach..Calhoun did the same thing.

Sorry but women's games are so boring and lack skill compared to the men's. Women's get an A for effort but F for skill - would rather watch boy's high school.
Check the numbers because they’ve drawn bigger crowds and more media attention than the men’s side. Also, Dawn Staley gets paid more than a lot of her male counterparts. If she decides to renegotiate she will be Top 10 highest paid college basketball coach regardless of gender.

UConn and Tennessee are awesome programs. South Carolina is up next. Hoping UT will return to glory
Basically the Pat and Geno show.
Until Dawn and Kim arrived.
