Sunk cost is the hardest thing for people to overcome, but it is one of the most important. Really excited to see your video about organizing.. so many options out there
A good lesson I’ve learned don’t trust anyone not even your blood family just because you are a smart person who knows certain things will be worth more in the future and they only see you collecting junk kid toys but once they see you making moves to make big money off those so called toys they will become greedy and try to steal from you because they didn’t plan for the future always keep your collection secure and safe
Cool video. I have to admit that my biggest problem is that I am not sure if I am really a collector or an investor. I have been collecting anew since early 2019 and the problem that you run into is that if you fall in-between, you never quite satisfy your collector gene, but at the same time you end up paying a premium for a really cool card. In all candor, I spent more money on cards than I would have liked to this year, but less than I have in the last 4 years. I have been more tactical in my purchases leaning toward greater stores of value. For instance, I am aware of your personal collection of Andre Drummond cards, and my kryptonite is Corbin Carroll. I guess what I am trying to say is that collecting cards is fun as is grading cards... remember, there is always a piper to be paid.
There's no need to pick between being a collector or investor! You can do both. It helps to set boundaries for yourself and goals. Like, "I will never own more than [X] cards of Corbin..." and for yourself to sell one when you buy a new one.
USPS 1st class mail is an accountable item, not just registered mail. So if you spend the money and send first class, you can basically expect it to get to its destination for the most part. Expensive sure, but definitely worth it. As it’s placed in possession of each person along the way rather than just thrown in the bin with the rest of the stuff..
“What’s the lowest you’ll go?” is one of the most annoying phrases that somebody can ask me. I do the exact same thing as you said “what is the most that you will pay?”
That's my exact reply too. If I were a dealer I'd do something playful like put up a sign: I’m here to sell, let’s strike a deal, Negotiation has appeal. But don’t ask me, “What’s your lowest?” Or away from my booth I'll tell you to go-est!
Dealers earn a reputation at card shows too. I know a couple guys at my local shows that have $2-3 "Value" boxes filled with base cards of modern cards. Learned my lesson after wasting my time once or twice.
Whatnot is tuff, I only get views and bids when I’m losing tons of money, I think it has a lot to do with show production. My plan is to make some money on eBay, build a stream set up and then figure out whatnot
The “selling at 300% of comps”, “sunk cost fallacy”, and asking “what’s your lowest?” are such common mistakes that even seasoned dealers at shows have these same issues. It’s frustrating.
Communication is the biggest want any buyer wants on eBay. I wanna know when my card is being shipped out especially if it’s over $4 in shipping costs. Golden rule for shipping time should always be within 24/48 hours of purchase. If you can’t ship out a card in that time frame, then stop selling cards on eBay, bc you had the time list it. Also I’ll add to never use scotch tape, never use clear packing tape as well!
I have so kany cards i sort thel every now and again but i never know if i should do it by brand. By rc i def seperate sports and i try to keep all my favorites together. Another thing is i wanna grade my cards but i get caught up in wantting to buy more instead lol
i agree with most! You can not tell some to lower the price of a card. To be with market movers?! Or angry if they do not! Prices go up just has fast as they go down. With older cards there is a extra grade of centering(less then psa Oc). I just saw 2 graded psa 6 m. mantles cards have 300$ difference solely based on how the card was centered. Maybe the guy bought the card for 2k and can not get a lose(yet). Maybe some has ten mantles of the same grade. he floods the markets. Everyone should lower the price, because one person is selling a mantle card every month? Maybe! or maybe they are waiting to see? Rest of your video was great.
What should we be aware of when selling cards to dealers at shows? Are dealers interested in buying $1-5 cards at shows? Or, should we only bring bigger cards for cases?
As a seller/dealer… comps aren’t the end all be all. If it’s a common base chrome/prizm Psa 10, sure…. But cards with rarity there can be a wide range of prices, over months, with just a few transactions. If I’m 30% over comps , when there is zero way to buy the card elsewhere, it’s not a terrible price. Especially if a player has gone up in the last 30-60 days.
Great informative video! But one comment about the filming quality: don't zoom in and out unnecessarily and don't swing the camera left and right too much. It was quite dizzying to watch the video with the frequent zoom in/out and camera swinging. Rewatch it and you’ll see what I mean 😅
Man… T-pot outdoes himself again each week ! Great information! I’m curious… what do you do with your base cards when you rip wax ? I want to toss them out but it breaks my heart . lol
I won a card in an auction. It was a low end card. Less than 20$ I guess the seller didn't get the money he wanted. He refunded the money without me requesting it and without any explanation. I've never left negative feedback until now. I understand things can happen. Once I put the card in my pocket after taking pics and threw it in the washing machine! I gave my ridiculous explanation and the buyer understood.
You don't need to eat the cost on the eBay envelope. You have to file a claim with them and they reimburse you the value of the card. It's pretty simple and only takes a couple of days to get the money back
Great video… but the value of a card is not the auction price or even the next-to-last auction bid, it’s the median amount between what the seller receives and what the buyer pays. In a card auction, that’s going to be +/- 10% less than the buyer’s price. Big mistake to just focus on what the buyer pays.
Thanks for the comment! How does what the seller receives impact what bidders are willing to pay? Value is derived from what someone pays, not from what a seller receives. I think you're conflating revenue with value. The two are not the same. I have never, as part of considering a card purchase or in a negotiation, said - "well this card last sold on Goldin for $1,000...BUT the seller only got $800 so the card is only worth $900."
its ironic that theres a ebay seller named sports card investor that doesnt do combined shipping on auction wins....not saying its u guys but its funny
show us your PC, have Reeves sho his PCs, have Carter and that one colleague that always wears a cap show his PC so content isn't always centered around business

Teapot channel has become sportscards business textbook 101
A video on how to sort and store a home collection would be wonderful. I am your exact example. Piles of cards on my desk.

Lol 😅 love it...keep it real
I have a spread sheet of my high end cards. I took accounting for 2 years so its just a easier way for me to keep track to the dollar
You don't need to use a spreadsheet...I guaranty our Collection tool in Market Movers will be much more useful!
Would love to see this spreadsheet
@MarketMovers you guarantee that? Where do I find it?
@MarketMovers i need something to track my investment cost, profit, etc

Love videos like this 🙏🏾
eBay requires proof of shipment, how do u handle that Tpot if u were to personally fly and deliver a card u sold on eBay?
They have a scanning option for in person delivery. There is a code on the phone of the buyer and you scan it with your phone and it shows delivered
@@josephpolanski6322 I think a buyer can also mark as “item received” as well

What do you do if a card has no market value or min. comparisons? Thinking of the odd ball allen & ginter cards. Or min. run product.
Summon your inner Marie Kondo, ask yourself if they bring you joy (which they don't) and throw them away.

USPS registered mail offers cheaper insurance and is the best way to ship expensive items. You can insure up to $50,000.
Better that collect insure?

Mistakes certainly do happen. The integrity of some sellers is really poor, though.
