Wonderful recipe! I really like the way you spread the mix in a pan, chilled it, and cut it in circles. That's a really nice look. I volunteered as a cook at a homeless shelter, and we often had a LOT of mashed potatoes left over, and I mean a WHOLE lot - buckets. I said to my colleagues, "Let's make potato patties". We did, and WOWOWOW! I'll be volunteering again, and this time I'm going to use your technique. The portion uniformity has a very clean, appealing look. They can be weighed and frozen. Fabulous! The only changes I would make would be turkey bacon instead of pork (for health reasons), and bake them instead of frying for the same reason. Oven at 450F to 500F preheated - a fast bake to make the cakes go POOF in the oven. Arrange cakes on a baking sheet 1 inch apart for even heat and browning. Drizzle or spray light veggie oil on EACH cake on BOTH sides. Throw them in the even. Turn them once till golden brown. Cooking time total around 15 to twenty minutes. You can feed a crowd with these beauties. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise!
Your recipe is an elevated version of what I grew up with. My mom always made too many mashed potatoes, on purpose. The left overs would be refrigerated. The next day she would make fried mashed potatoes. She pretty much did them as you indicated, but no cheese and she formed the patties by hand. She fried them in good ol' vein clogging, heart stopping lard until they were dark brown and crunchy outside. We ate the patties with gravy, sweet/sour red cabbage and usually sausages. Dark beer to drink.
@white zebra Yup! Mom's family was of German heritage. Dad's was Scotts. Alcohol (in moderation!!!) was normal for us - and our extended families. The dark beer was Yuengling Bros. "Porter," which was commonly prescribed by doctors for their cardiac patients back in that day. It was considered health "food" and always welcomed at the table.

Thank you for sharing this recipe with all of us. If it weren't 3:15 am I would make them right now. Totally awesome looking potato pancakes. Thank you, thank you and Danke schoen.
I did something similar just now but instead of green onion, I sauteed a medium yellow onion in a little butter and then let it simmer in some Worcestershire sauce. Without a doubt, that's my favorite thing I've ever made.
I do this already with mashed potatoe from the night before and have for breakfast with some eggs. Will try next time with the bacon and onion they look great ,thanks for the download.
Touch of garlic. Depending on how much mash I'm doing I add garlic clove/s to my potatoes while they cook and mash them with the potatoes. Kids love it. Those look amazing. I'ma doing these for breakfast
Dave, how is it that every single recipe gets better and better? These look absolutely incredible! I could eat mashed potatoes every single day! So making these!

Yummy! I did something similar with the Thanksgiving leftovers. Cranberry and turkey in the center of a ball of stuffing, chilled, then wrapped in a layer of mashed potatoes. dredged in flour, egg wash and bread crumbs ....and cooked like Dave did. Some gravy for dipping. Wow were they good!

Hey there. Wonderful! So glad you enjoyed the mashed potato cakes. I know they are good. I love the idea of the sour cream and chives with a pinch of dill. Great addition to the recipe. Hope you make many more recipes and stay safe and well.
Been using my leftover mashed potatoes for years to make potato pancakes as we call them. I just use 1/2 eggs depending on amount of leftover , then 2 tbsp flour , onion, a little milk, just till moist but holds together and then fry in pan in hot oil. Outside crunchy brown ,inside nice and creamy.
Dilantha, they don't taste as good if they're square. Really! The corners get overdone, the middle underdone and the who thing just turns into a horrible mess. It could even cause governments to collapse.

Hi Lizeth. I think you will enjoy i. Let us know. 😄👍
We don't eat bacon so maybe I will try adding fried onion with the cheese instead.
Yes!!.I think adding various Veggies to the Spuds always works anyway&then follow the same Procedure&u won't go wrong!
Hi Elizabeth. Sure you can do that. Hope you enjoy.
You can buy beef bacon.
I wasn't hungry when I sat down to watch this but am ravenous now for one (or more!) of these potato cakes.
I can't tell you like pepper you only used a little.
Mia, I agree with you. I was expecting him to put in a lot of pepper. Compared to me, he puts in only a tad. However, the recipe looks great!
I just love potatoes..👍😀
we call it "perkedel"
I made these tonight for a treat and everyone loved them! Definitely will do it again!
Hi Mary. Great. So glad you enjoyed them. Hope you cook more recipes.
It needed just a little more pepper. 😉
It looked super!!! was dying for just a bite!!!
Hi Duane. Thanks so much. Hope you try them.
I prefer to bake it for healthier potato cake.
Healthier? You are going to die anyway. Maybe you'll add one more year to your life. I'd rather eat lobster, fillet mignon, ice cream, decadent chocolate truffles, pulled pork sandwiches, and french fries but live a year or less than you. We both die, but I will enjoy my life a hellofalot more than you will.
Hi. You can if you like.
Bake it? As soon as you ad bacon you might as well let loose!
@@saffronsworld1508 Don't worry....you'll live as long if not longer than Delsa. You'll just be on a hell of a lot more meds than her to make it!
Just when i thought i couldn't love potatoes any more than i do!!!! Thank you Thank you Thank you!!! God Bless
Hi. You are so welcome. Hope you try them.
