    Compassion really encourages letter writing to the children, they even have on their page that tamiles requested these letters over monetary gifts. I think the connection between the sponsor and the child is very important

    I sense they expected to find that child sponsoring doesn't work but ended up finding that it does. I think the reason why it works is because sponsors are encouraged to connect with the child though letters, gifts and even encouraged to visit their child in person. Money is necessary but is the love and care as well as meaningful life coaching that is essential! This is in stark contrast with programs here in North America that assume money can fix anything. Surprise! Money can't replace love.

      Yes interesting isn't it. I also expected the results of the study to be worse than they were. I was pleasantly surprises. I do hope more research is done in the future.

    Hello everyone, you can see the actual expenses and use of charity money on Charity Navigator as well as CEO salaries. I am glad to learn the donations are actually reaching the children, I'm encouraged to do more..( I use World Vision)

    Interesting! I was actually expecting to hear that too much money goes into running the program and not into the hands of the children who are being sponsored....thanks for doing the research!

    It should be said as well in Compassion's program only one child per family is sponsored, however all the children in that family recieve the benefits if needed. Children International's program has a bit higher admin costs but has excellent child facilities. Preform your diligence due, check Chairity Tracker before giving money to anyone and then only to charities who will fund you a receipt at the end of the year

  • @RandomInternetCommenterr

    Great video! I have always been sceptical about this fundraising model. It always looked a lot of administrative costs. I'm glad to see the positive impact being that significant.

    I can talk about this for hours and hours.... Having worked on both sides.... I remember that 2013 study, Iand was right there with the folks doing that study.... What can I say.... One doesn't know what's going on, unless they actually work in that country and know the child. Of course every organization is different. Do realize that some of these benefits are very dependent... I.e. what does medical help mean? There is a lot of questions there. How do these letters get written. I've sat down with many of these children to write a letter to their sponsor. A lot of it depends on the local centers... It's a shot in the dark... I've seen really wonderful results and I've seen lousy results... It all depends....

      I thoroughly applaud that!! It is really the uncomfortable or threatening parts of the Bible or interactions with God and man where people can grow the most.. It isn't easy or nice but it is part of what God does to mature a person. And once through something difficult, there is an extra dimension or richness to one's life because they have gained understanding on a deeper level.

    This is great! I think it's important to research what we spend our time and money on, to see if it's a good thing or not. My parents sponsored a child in Africa through a Norwegian organization which works on helping people help themselves in poor communities, buying families animals they can use for themselves and sell eggs and milk, and helping children get education so they can support their families better.

    • @TabletsAndTemples
      @TabletsAndTemples  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @TabletsAndTemples
      @TabletsAndTemples  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jason, compassion and worldvision are both faith based. They both have their critics but are fairly transparent about what they do. It's worth doing some research before signing up. Or did you mean you were looking for one that was not faith based?

    • @jasondacumos2517

      @@TabletsAndTemples Do you know if the kids actually feel a connection and are told someone has chosen to sponsor you....like is it personal to them or is it like they are a group and have to write letters to ppl and they are on multiple websites and have many sponsors?

    • @TabletsAndTemples
      @TabletsAndTemples  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jasondacumos2517 I'm not sure to be honest. Compassion have publicly stated that only one sponsor is connected to a child, see blog.compassion.com/do-children-in-compassion-program-have-more-than-one-sponsor/
      I also know that any sponsor is welcome to go and visit one of the programs if they so desire (and I have friends who have done so and were impressed with what they saw).
      So taking them at their word, no I don't think so. I haven't looked into the others such as World Vision.

    What you are saying is very interesting and important. So I think it's a shame about the background music, you don't need it and I personally find it distracting. Background music is great/meant for when you don't need to pay attention or think about what is said, hence I disagree it's inclusion because what you are saying is important. For example, Cable News don't play background when the anchor is speaking.
