So many Union Stations. How many times did they rebuild it?

The one we have now is the third, The first one was a wooden structure, it quickly became inadequate, so they built the second one on the site of the first one, by the early 1900's they decided that one too was no longer adequate, so they built the one we have now a block East of the original two, but the first world war and arguments on track placement delayed opening until 1927.

Amazing to see Union Station under construction all those years ago...even more amazing to think that it is still under construction a century later(Go concourse 3). I wonder if it will ever be finished. Thank goodness the absurd proposal in the early 70s to demolish this landmark never came to fruition! My humble wishlist for Union Station...remove the hoardings on the north side of the great hall and re-install the original clock kiosk, get rid of those horrendous Jersey barriers out front and perhaps plant a few trees!

Loved Bayview and Eglinton 1910 especially without any rush hour traffic.

Bayview & Eglinton 4:40 was so beautiful in 1910 with all the natural topography and trees, and little Mansion; looks like a little apple-orchard at what would become the Dominion (now "Metro") supermarket parking lot. All good as long as you don't need to walk in the uneven, thick mud that comprised the road. Anyways, it is an idyllic scene fit for an artist's painting.

Excellent compilation!!! Union Stations! 1st one was like just a big railroad halt, but 1860 ! wow! Some of the adults in that photo, probably, were survivors of the War of 1812 when USA conquered, but Canada resisted successfully, we did not comply, hence ♫"we stand on guard for thee"♫ Anyways, the current Union Station should change that soulless "modern" clock that has no numbers, with something as close as possible to the original, at least the clock/dial face with roman numerals, that would really bring class back and harmonize with the original architecture of that room, and for people who want digital, there's still the digital panel under it they can choose to look at.

I agree with the clock, They should change it back. The clock out front of the building looks like a match for the clock that was originally in the great hall.

Location of fire hydrant still the same at Bloor west of Quebec. I guess they didn't want to confuse the dogs.

LOL, but in reality the pipes are the same underneath the street.

You know all the coal was stored LCBO at Gerrard and Carlaw when that rail overpass was being built, I think 1931 if I remember correctly.

Amazing in the 60s the city was considering knocking down the third Union Station for a “modern” version. Glad that never happened.

I agree with that there was many historical buildings they wanted to tear down, they still want to tear a lot of them down.

Wait... what? 4:59 - 3rd Union Station Excavation 1915. So they just destroyed those gorgeous buildings to make the Royal York 12-years later?

      Yes they did.
