What you need to know about this song is 1, Queen and Bowie were already icons before Vanilla was an itch is his daddy's pants. 2, this bassline was also one of the most iconic and instantly recognizable in rock music. Vanilla knew exactly what he was doing and sampling was not frowned upon back in the day. EVERYONE jammed to Ice Ice Baby. It's still a good song. He just probably should not have stolen from two of the biggest names in music. 😂 Maybe if he would have asked? 😅
Not Frowned Upon ??? !!! Anyone who was a true Bowie/Queen fan Detested Vanilla Ice for Stealing the music...and We hated seeing a song that had such true meaning turned into a fking low IQ rap crap song. I was so happy that Bowie spearheaded the lawsuit for himself and Queen. I even recall Bowie saying something like "Vanilla Ice calls it 'sampling' -- We (he and Queen) call it stealing. He then went on to say something along the lines that 'these rappers' that are doing such things, stealing the music of others and calling it 'sampling' are not true musicians...they need to learn music and create their own stuff....and if they can't they then need to learn how to apply for permissions and compensate those musicians who created the music they are 'sampling' plus, give them credits as the creators on any labeling.
Now you really need to check out Queen’s live performance of Under Pressure at Wembley in 1986. It is a real treat. You will see Freddie playing his favorite instrument, the audience!
Friends, don’t be so picky. Just say his entire discography. If you haven’t listened to it yet, you won’t regret it. Listen to Moss Garden with headphones on and closed eyes and find peace.
@@vvmihali487 For me, it's like picking your favorite child. All of my era were awesomeness personified. They are DIFFERENT. All of the Beatles on their own - well, not so much Ringo, but... Plant, Gilmour, Geddy Lee. All great and all completely their own style. That's the most important lesson.
This was never performed live it's a fan made video. Freddie is at Wembly and Bowie is at Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert. He stole it and we All knew it😂
There is a powerful message in this song and you knew straight up that you were gonna love it! Great reaction to another legendary song. Keep it rocking Queen 😉
Whe we got bored at work. One guy would start slapping his desk to to this and we would go down the line picking up the beat unti we got to vocals and we would all join on. Our bosses weren't too happy with us. But we did it just about every Friday and folks would wander over just to watch and listen. They couldn't very well fire us all so we started having all kinds of Friday jams.
This is a classic amongst classics. The smooth Bowie baritone with the Mercury acrobatics. And the message... "caring for the people on the edge of the knife" and "This is *ourselves* under pressure." That's gold.
You put a smile on my face with that reaction!!! Been a Queen fan since their beginning and still listen to them everyday. You are so vibrant and fun to watch❤❤❤
David Bowie is a legend, not an exaggeration. He’s reinvented himself so many times. He had all the different characters before Eminem. He was Ziggy Stardust, The Think White Duke and my personal favorite, just got the name. Aladdin Sane. Please check out his music China Girl Let’s Dance Blue Jean I’m Afraid of Americans That last ones my favorite but I tried to go older to newer.
my favorites are Time, Word on a Wing, Lady Grinning Soul, Five Years, Moonage Daydream, Heroes, Ashes to Ashes, All the Madmen, Space Oddity, Quicksand, Life on Mars?, The Bewlay Brothers, Aladdin Sane, Sweet Thing - Candidate - Sweet Thing Reprise, Sons of the Silent Age, Always Crashing in the same Car, Speed of Life, I Can't Give Everything Away, Dollar Days, Lazarus.... and many others, for me he is the best soloist of all times, without a doubt!
It's incredible how many Queen songs have been sampled by rappers and other artists. Many younger people don't realise these are Queen classics and are amazed when they hear the original, Another one bites the dust, Under Pressure, We are the Champions, We will Rock You and so many more! You are definitely on a great musical journey, keep it up. 👍🇬🇧
Love Queen no one compares to Freddie he is the GOAT... love your reaction to this cannot wait to see you experience more Queen. Thank you for keeping his music alive!!! I am sure you now have list so many favorites.
There is a great back story to this amazing piece of music. The remaining members of Queen tell of how the song came about - it’s quite funny - you would likely enjoy the 2-3 videos out there which talk about it. As others have mentioned, Freddie and David never performed this together (this is a ‘mash-up’).. and it brings to mind that there are many, many great vids of the Freddie Mercury Tribute concert that was done in 1992.. ALL of the top performers of that time came together to pay homage to Freddie and his music! Thanks for your great reaction!!
Here’s your next Queen video: “Who Wants to Live Forever”. Use the Official Queen video that has Freddie in a tuxedo and 158 million views. It’s better, in my humble opinion, than the live at Wembley. It makes me cry every time!
This is a very good mash-up, probably fan generated video. Freddie is doing this at Wembley in 1986 with Roger singing Freddie's part and Freddie singing David Bowie's part. Bowie did this song at the Freddie Mercury Tribute concert with the rest of the Queen band. I really love this song and this video but as I said, it is not a video of an actual performance as Freddie and David never got a chance to do this song live though there is an official studio version of the song with both of them, I believe if not, there is an official Queen studio version and an official Bowie studio version of the song.
David Bowie did a famous Christmas colab with another legend Bing Crosby. Little Drummer boy/ Peace on Earth Also magic dance as well as the world falls down and without you All from the movie labyrinth.
I love Freddie Mercury and David Bowie. I saw David Bowie live in 2004 and it was a dream I thought I would never realise. I love Queen as well and never got to see them in concert. If you haven't see it yet, you might enjoy Bowie at the Beeb live here on YT. It is just phenomenal :)
You’ve got to see this young man’s cover of this song! Marc Martel - Under Pressure 3M views. Amazing! Don’t do the live one, but do the studio version.
Produced and written by David Bowie and Queen. Legend 🙌 Game 🎮 changer. This is 1 of the most played songs in sports around the globe 🌎 Suggested videos 📹: 1 David Bowie and Tina Turnersing Tonight. 2 Freddie Mercury and Michael Jackson sing There's More to Life than This. 3 Queen performs Headlong. 5:35
CLASSIC! Legendary duo there! I'm sure "Ice Ice baby" brought them attention but nothing like what " Wayne's World" did with " Bohemian Rapsody", Also the Greatest hits CD came out around that time and they were all over the place again.
Freddy's voice and David's were so unique and the two of them together, no one else could have pulled off this song!😊 Plus Bohemian Rhapsody was in Wayne's World movie! Song is still relevant considering all the stuff happening in the world.
Fun fact: If Van-Ice would have ask for permission ... man, he would have got it for free! But he "stole" it without asking ... and that was pricie! ^^+gg XD
This was actually spliced together after Freddie's death, from live concerts recorded before he got sick. Look at the other band members clothes, and watch them change for each splice.
Honey, babe, David Bowie is a slim white Duke. And he actually performed with Tina Turner and he was amazing. I cry every time that I know that. He's gone same with Freddy. I loved Freddie Mercury. Get breaks my heart.
Great reaction!! Other Queen Suggestions: - Don't stop me now (amazing) - Innuendo (a very deep song) - Another one bites the dust (very rhythmic) - Who wants to live forever/official video (a sad and beautiful song) - Save me - Radio ga ga - A kind of magic - Its a hard life - Somebody to love /official video (amazing voices) ¡Saludos, desde Argentina!
They never performed this song together. When they recorded this song they recorded the vocals separately. This is one of the greatest production jobs ever done.
Try "Another One Bites the Dust" next. About the "sample", "Under Pressure" was a well known hymn long before that guy stole it. That Ice cub was trying to get famous using that riff, but ended up being famous in court as well. Greetings from Brazil
They never sang this live together although it's at Wembley Stadium Fred 1986 Queen Magic Tour and David Bowie April 1992 with remaining members of Queen and a host of many people taking part in a concert raising awareness for HIV/AIDS in tribute to Fred who passed away November 1991 age just 45
I think it's very hard to know that if some other beat had been in the song whether or not it would've became a hit. I don't know what the inspiration was for the song either, was it inspired from what was sampled, or was the sample added later. But it is the most recognized thing about it. The thing with sampling, including this one for Ice Ice Baby, is they're taking from songs (at least back then) that weren't really known by the audience that rap/hip hop was aiming towards. The sampled beat is fantastic. I knew it because I listened to both genres back then but many didn't. At the same time, I think Ice Ice Baby stands on its own too. It does take some talent to transform a piece of art into another piece of art. And I believe they are both pieces of art and history in their respective genres. They are both different songs but always connected. One is serious commentary while the other is a fun, dance/party song. They both have their place. Thanks for the great reaction and telling your thoughts on this one.
This was performed before ice ice baby come out vanilla ice just took the back round music to help with their record not knowing that queen and David bowie allready performed this song with the same back round music it wasn't their fault vanilla ice didnt know at the time but vanilla ice did good but i will alwsys go back to queen and david Bowie performing ❤️💓
Honestly have never heard a bad song with a mashup of white and black singers. Jz and linkon, eminem and ..any black rapper (or Rhianna). Its like pb and j or America itself. Alone we are good, united we are unbeatable.
Great it was genius, look when it was made, no auto tune just talent. John Deacon, that was his base line and of course Freddie killed it because Queen made this way before Vanilla ice was even in the business.
What propelled QUEEN was LIVE AID. In the early 80's they released the worst album of their career - alienating fans, critics, and everyone. It was a HOT MESS! - ticket sales were sluggish - and QUEEN was on a downward spiral. They regained their throne as a billion plus people saw them play live, and were able to compare to them other live bands that day - and it was not contest. Freddy was King once again.
Freddy Mercury and David Bowie were both superstars long before Vanilla Ice came along... Freddy Mercury died the year after Vanilla Ice released Ice Ice Baby...
Another example of "Sampling" without giving credit is Bruce Hornsby's song "That's Just The Way It Is" th-cam.com/video/cOeKidp-iWo/w-d-xo.html&pp=ygUndGhhdCdzIGp1c3QgdGhlIHdheSBpdCBpcyBicnVjZSBob3Juc2J5 Tupac used the entire song without a mention to Bruce.
"Sampled" is another word for stole, especially since little Robbie talentless Ice didn't give these two icons credit when he clearly stole the song. I was a teenager when this came out and it was a HUGE hit, on the radio all the time. They didn't need Robbie to bring attention to their song. So you can throw that theory out. The opposite is true. Robbie needed their song because he lacked talent to write his own material. And have a pleasant day.
STOP mentioning and giving any credit to that other talentless person. He stole the music, was taken to court and lost. This was written and performed by the British group Queen (plus sung by Englishman Bowie and Annie Lennox at the Memorial Concert for Freddy Mercury!

I second this right here.
It was certainly a treat, I was one of the crowd that Freddie played that night.
David Bowie is great on his own: Changes, Space Oddity, or at Christmas with Bing Crosby Peace On Earth/ Little Drummer Boy.
The entire Ziggy Stardust and Diamond Dogs albums, Space Oddity's sequel 'Ashes To Ashes'...
