I'm a bartender and I've been watching your videos to learn more about wine to sell to my guests and I have to say your videos are easy and fun to watch because I can tell you are passionate about everything wine! Your excitement is contagious and makes your videos fun to watch. Fun and educational keep em coming sir!
Love skin macerated whites! My favorites from Slovenia have been Movia’s Rebula and Kabaj’s Beli Pinot (a Pinot Blanc!) I have a pure Pinela in the cellar I am still waiting to try!
@@taciturntacitus7745 I’ve spent years trying to find comparable, still can’t. Renieri is close but not as intense. I adore those wines. Very unique, very balanced and very intense!
Cool video and the deep dive int0 Slovenian wines and skin contact whites. I have enjoyed most orange/skin contact whites that I have tasted so far, but they have yet to attract a wider audience beyond that of wine geeks and nerds, IMHO. I don't think I've gotten a chance to try Slovenian wines yet; interestingly enough even though I am in Hungary here non-Hungarian wines are often large label, mass produced wines from the Southern Hemisphere. So thanks for sharing the links with us and introducing some new varietals. Cheers!
Very nice video Matthew! Just one remark that you haven't mentioned for people who don't know these style of wines. Be careful about the temperature of those wines - enjoy them best just slightly chilled. I enjoy most of orange / amber wines at about 14 °C that's about 55 F or so. BTW who's that guy at 5:52? ;)
Soo...we leve next to italy and we are slavic and we go 1m in to italy and you are not in slavic anymore ...why we can have a heavy slavic food and italian food but we are slovenian???????

Glad to see that you liked these, would also recommend Cuvee Ana from Domačija Bizjak, as well as Amfora from Kabaj, one of my personal favorites
I like both of those too!

Ahhh those are two beautiful wines!
Awesome crash course on your fave Slovenian orange wines! I’m a big fan but have had trouble finding them. Hope that NYC offers more options. Cheers!
A lot should be in NYC but again can be hard to track down!
I just had an orange wine from Arizona last night. Malvasia bianca, huge cat pee nose, gentle, pear, laundry detergent and no dry gin finish. Gorgeous
Ahhh nice. From Ardus?
@@drmatthewhorkey Caduceus, I’m going down there in October to the tasting room and restaurant
@@JuicySommelierAlways wanted to try their wine! Big fan of Maynard’s other work 😄 Gonna seek out a few bottles

Just had Brianne Day’s “Tears of Vulcan” and fell head over heels with her take on the style
Did you like it?

You’ll have to make a trip to the border country!

Next time taste renčel wine from KRAS region. You will definitely like it
I have had it!
Next time try UOU from Solkan. Exclusively from old vineyards.
I have many vintages!
You must try JNK Rebula, also from Slovenia
Love her wines and they have showed up in previous videos
Would love to see a tasting of the reds from Slovenia
In lots of older videos on the channel including this one… th-cam.com/video/qO4tO-HF3dY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=vuKV7joGBwIYJk2h

That border is an interesting place indeed!
@drmatthewhorkey next time you are welcome in to our small cellar ...when you are in
Nova Gorica
so you guys are still pushing the narrative that duration of maceration decides how structured and tannic wines are eh?😅
We????
@@drmatthewhorkey I have a question for you Matthew. can you make a Bordeaux cabernet with burgundy pinot noir if you macerate it for 6 months?
nope... our wine is for shit
