    I’m still new to wine and am amazed that 3 years ago I didn’t even know Syrah and Shiraz were the same grape. I love this comparative approach at the varietal level and clearly spelling out the notes (I’m lucky if I get even one of those) and how price-point indicators work is very helpful. WineFolly is my favorite TH-cam source of information!

    Hard to argue with that list! Carmenere is a great call, such a distinctive grape and a crowd pleaser. Next list, intermediate level grapes?

    Slightly off topic but: Someone said (I think it was Jancis Robinson), that the best beginner wine is an excellent wine. The expensive stuff. Seems counter intuitive right? Why "waste" it on someone who doesn't know a thing about wine, but I agree. Whenever you get hooked on something, it's often because you discover a world you thought you kind of knew, but then realize you had no idea. You've found a key to delight, you've levelled up. Now you've got the fever. Same thing can be said for a lot of things in life, many of which aren't tied to luxury obviously.

    Madeline - what do you think of Cabernet Franc, specifically from the Chinon region (in France, of course. I know that you know this, but others may not know that Chinon is a region in France)? I just tried this (literally) and love it (typically, I am an Italian wine fan......love me some Sangiovese and die willingly for Nebbiolo). I really like this wine. I am a relative noobie on the wine scene and think that this would be a GREAT introductory wine.......

    Hey question, my neighbor that I use to take care of... Passed years ago and I have been trying to find this red table wine he would gift to me on special occasions. I do not remember the name however it was I believe a red table wine that tasted like concord grapes...... And at the time it was the only red wine that I could tolerate. It was sweet but not too sweet. Just have no idea what one. It was a lot of the red wines, mess with me as in turning my face red and blotchy.... Or that I just can't stand them to a city on my tongue. So I usually just stay with the white Zinfandel or sunset blush type. However, I would still love to try to find that wine.
    Cheers 🍷 🍷

      It sounds like sweet reds are your thing. Concord-based wines would be from New York, this is a great place to start looking. Have you ever tried Red Cat? Also, you might try a sweet red from Italy Brachetto d’Acqui. The brand Roscato is this Italian wine designation and it’s very popular

    ive been getting into concentrated style Bordeauxs. LOVE THEM! any you'd recommend i try that i'd likely be able to find at total wine?

    • @winefolly
      @winefolly  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Depends on which style you prefer, but I remember seeing Chateau Barde-Haut on the shelves over there and that producer puts down rich styled Cabernet-based (aka Left Bank) blends. I'd look into the vintages, some to use for comparison were the 2016 and 2020 vintages. Those were both pretty bombastic (for BDX!)

      It's hard for many folks to align with those "other" aromas so you're not alone. I just wait for the day when you have a "dusty" Napa Cabernet and suddenly it will all makes sense! Happy tasting

    Small hint: at the very end, when you line up the wines by price, you didn't tell us that we needed to memorize the labels so how are we to know which wine is which. In your added visual popup of the prices, it should have been easy to show both the price AND the wine. Maybe next time.

    I can tell she's reading off what she's smelling. So, she either smelled this earlier, or took notes from someone else or some other book. It makes me skeptical.
