@funko freddie & co that's what I thought when I saw the seiryu stones he put in there. They're probably my favorite type of rock for aquariums but they're like 7€/kg where I'm from and they're not light like lava rock.. I wish I had these amounts of hardscape to chose from!

@funko freddie & co ??? Im confused. I did go to the shop and buy all the plants...and all the stone, the lights, the tank, the filter. Not sure what you mean?

@@MDFishTanks Admittedly, I'm just too cheap to pay 10 bucks or more for a single rock :D but at least the good things with rocks is that youll have them forever unlike plants that could just die off. I do have a few seiryu stones, but it hurt buying every single one of them and with each scape, I make sure you can see every single one of them to get my money's worth ;)

@Star Shine it’s a hobby, so it will cost you something, for size like the tank above if you spend let’s say £150 on plants and hardscape you must be able to achieve similar result. Then put it on TH-cam and you may get your money back lol 😉

Hello MD. I used to own a fish store back in the early 90’s. At one point I had 31 tanks in my house. Have pretty much been out of the hobby since then. All that time & work, I never attempted a live planted tank. I just wanted to let you know that I am wanting to get back in & try live plants. You have some of the most beautiful set ups I have seen & you are so enjoyable to listen to. Thanks for teaching me & keep up the great work. I will let you know if I get back in & how I do. Thanks again....Jason

One thing I have found with using stone in aquascaping, if it has strong striations on it, it tends to look more natural if you align the striations consistently. If you want some of the rocks tipped or tilted, then balance it with the aligned striations and then tip it over, so it looks like it has naturally fallen down.

I actually just the other day recycled my plant rings into a shrimp hide by super glueing 3 or 4 to make one long "tube" then glueing those "tubes" into a pyramid structure! It works really nice then you can just glue a bit of moss on top and plop it in. It's most likely been done before but I just thought of it :D

MD - you have great Videos, I am learning a lot. You keep things simple for beginners, and I really appreciate that. Sadly, I cant use a hang on tank filter. In my neighborhood we have lots of brief power outages. The power will go off for a second, a minute, a half hour. the result is just long enough power loss for the water to drain out of my HOT filter, and when the power comes back on it burns the motor out trying to pull water back into the now empty filter. I switched to a sponge filter and love it. Power outages don't bother this filter and pump at all. My Tank is doing well. I do like how much clear the water is with a HOT filter, but I burned through 4 of these filters in 6 months, so it just doesn't work for me. I could have bought a whole new tank set up for what I spent in HOT filters! Also, I have had so many disasters with canister tanks leaking that I will Never touch another one! I love my simple sponge filter, and so does my Vampire shrimp, he likes to hang out and feed off the debris on the filter. He also used to climb into my HOT filter, which scared me, so I think the sponge is safer for him. I have the flow low enough that he can get off and on with no problems. TO each his own. I would do a HOT filter if it were not for the power outages.

    • @pjp9383
      @pjp9383 3 ปีที่แล้ว

I had the same problem in my old place, with frequent power outages. I have sponge filters in some of my tanks, but I also have some internal filters. Kind of the equivalent of a hang on back except that it hangs on the edge on the inside of the tank. Because the whole filter is inside the tank, they have no trouble restarting, and the filter media stays wet during the outage too.

@@devaunfulton2552 oh you know believe it or not I found something someone interesting they're dried guava leaves.
I talked to a Taiwanese woman who raises King beta's and she also has female bettas in her shop but the way she cares for them is amazing.
she's spoke English and told me that the water in Taiwan is not suitable for tropical fish because of the it's hard water and full of acid
is how she described it and she said if I let my water sit for 2 days and then I use guava leaves she said it would help
What I realized is it actually removes the acid in the water so it stabilizes the pH especially if you put like three big leaves in and I honestly can get through one week and just do a water change so I have a big water container that's clean and I put in declinating water I had the leaves and then I use a small bucket with a handle to do the water changes no problem I don't really need to vacuum the gravel because I use pellets and they don't make a mess now I do kind of steer the gravel around to check like how much crud is in it but if it's really creative and I you know vacuum it but to be honest I think the fish poop probably helps the plans to feed because I don't know it's it's very beneficial so I'll stir it up so the anubias cuz that's all I can put in my tank can have some extra nutrition but the filter usually takes care of it and what it doesn't get I use a gravel back and try to suck up the crud as much as possible but I haven't had any fish die since I started dried guava leaves
and let me tell you the way she cared for those betas oh my gosh it was amazing
The store looks like a little hole in the wall I kid you not but the way she maintained the tanks was amazing and then like the female bettas that were like $200 God I wish my landlord will let me have more than three pets but her female betas were chunky and beautiful not overweight but not thin and scrawny like I usually get and they were had like at least 3 gallons for each female and I was like wow and the females didn't have filtered water but they had tap water that sits for 2 days and then you put the leaves in kills all the crap and the water's fine now you can't drink it but it's good for your fish
and I haven't had any problems with ammonia poisoning or anything like I could stick my hands in the water for cheese 3 minutes and my hands aren't even burning same thing if I put them in longer cuz a lot of times I like to move things around stir up the water clean all the crud out of the tank well at least half of it and then you know put the stuff back
I think it has the same effect as almond leaves but I can't actually get those and the guava leaves also have tannins which are great for your Betta so I finally found a way of doing it
My goal one day is to open a giant beta store that can have at least 400 betas in my store and it also like to sell guppies because I found that female bettas actually get along very well with male guppies it depends on the female but right now I've got a female and with male guppies and nobody bothers her and she doesn't bother anyone to get along really well
that was interesting because I started off with a male veil tail who did very well with the guppies but then he got swim bladder and so he was recovering so I put the female in there ande 'she is doing great

Can you please make a video on how to make your cool little thingamabobers that you fill your tank with? I love all your little contraptions you make to make water changes and maintenance easier. I would literally buy one from you if you sold them in your merch lol!

Shrimp start breeding a lot when there is a constant change in water temp and constant nice quality new water. It's how I did some accelerated colony growth back in the day multiple times.

Grow out tank, yeah ok MD 🤣 looks really nice! I see George’s fern is growing nicely in the Asian aquarium haha! Props for leaving it in there! Hopefully with practice I can get so good at scaping that my grow out tank looks like this 🤣

Hey dude. U R what I call an Aquariumologist!!! That is someone who knows Aquariums and is good at Biology (ologist) ! Excellent work and videos of YOUR WORK. It is just my opinion [this is still a Free Country] but I personally think That U could give Sea World in Florida or many other water parks THERE some advice and knowledge That they r lacking to improve their attractions and increase their sales and revenue. How about at Sea World in Florida after all those kidos get so excited about fish and water Sea World could try stocking some of their gift shops with small fresh water aquarium kits along with a few starter fish and suggesting that THEIR young kidos start a fresh water system along with fresh water plants to help with water purification and oxinating for the fish introducing them to some water boilogy. Then in the future they could try a SALT WATER TANK of their own with their parents loving permission.

hi! I just wanted to ask... I want to remake my aquarium to something like this aquarium you set up in your video. My current aquarium are just plants all over it (doesnt look very good). Do you need air CO2 for these plants you used or will it be enough if I use just CO2 from bottle? Sorry for my grammar, english isnt my first language and im still learning! I absolutely love your tanks, have a nice day!
