First time I saw Gary was at Blues Kitchen, a small bar in London, he was playing a free gig... Incredible night. 4 months later I watched him on stage at Hyde Park with The Stones... Incredible to see his growing success!! Gary if you're reading this, you're an inspiration!

He may not be the most technically abled blues guitarist, but he's actually way more soulful and most of the technically inclined bluesmen aren't as capable of putting on a show as warm as his.
He's a classic bluesman with the soul other bluesmen wish they had.

I heard a legend that Gary was just your average kid, going to school and playing the guitar in his off time. Then one day he found a mysterious, ribboned, wide-brim fedora. When he placed it on his head he suddenly gained the power to channel all the groove of soul, blues, rock and hip-hop, rocketing him indisputably to fame. The legend also says that he wears it to this day...and it still looks *fantastic* .

So apparently I am late to the party again. This is the most beautifully innovative yet universally resonant pieces of music I've heard in a very long time. He's slaying every musical genre and still leaving the music with space to breathe. Damn. And he's bringing sexy back. Past few years I feel like something in music is stirring up... I'm 41, I remember this feeling in the very early 90s... My dad felt it then, too, told me it felt very much like that to him in the 60s - I believe that music - all art, but especially music, speaks to something vital and innate inside of all of us that has no name, no words to describe it - and yet its power is infinitely strong and is the gestation of change, of letting go, of straight up telling us to wake up cuz some cool shit is gonna be happening.
Welcome to the GC jr. party, it's better late than never, lol. Yep, the 90s was it for us Gen X. On your to do list, GC Jr. live. I got to see him in August there are no words, he's the real deal.
