I have watched more golf videos on the golf swing than I’ve had hot dinners! This drill with the walking stick and getting the trail shoulder down and the lead shoulder up and body rotating is fantastic and probably the single most beneficial lesson for me personally. I’ve just been to the range (here in NZ) and worked on the drill, hit 60 balls from wedge through to 6 Iron, and the results (when I got it right) were amazing. I’m a 4 handicap and have similar body shape to yours, so it’s perfect. I have always struggled with that clutch 7 or 8 iron into the green from tee or fairway - this is giving me confidence to hit from the middle of the face (rather than the toe) and hit it solid - which is what we all go back to the course to experience. Thank you. This drill will be my ‘go to’ in warm up probably until I can’t play golf anymore.
Well done, I’ve tried to grasp this concept for ages without success. My 55 year plus muscle memory is not so easy to erase and obviously the wish to hit from the top isn’t an uncommon feeling. The drill for a downswing feel is what almost no other coach gives us they all talk about the backswing. GOLD PURE GOLD!
Anybody watching this it works great had lesson some months ago with Alistair worked on this as was struggling with swing I'm much improved Will be going back soon for more lessons great teacher top bloke
Brilliant. The external rotation followed by the correct right shoulder move thru impact…I’ve heard described as “Leaning out of an upstairs bedroom window and looking left down the street”. Which works for me…
Al, I don't know how you anticipate video content that helps me but you do. This video fits right in with what I've been attempting to do better. My downswing swing path tends to shift all too easily to an out to in movement. Your suggestion of losing an arm wrestle is a swing thought I can use. I am being custom fitted with irons right now and my first, a 7 iron, has a swing weight that lets me feel the location of the clubhead on my backswing. I'm finding that I can let the clubhead weight reinforce the notion of letting my clubshaft drift slightly back at the beginning of my downswing. Losing the arm wrestle with reinforce that movement. Thanks much.
Perhaps the single best downswing tip, and when i do it right it greatly increases my club head speed. I feel like my front hip moving to the target and my trail shoulder pulling back creates a great deal of tension that is released at the ball.
My default miss has been the pull, my trail shoulder has been moving out and getting high, the lose the arm wrestling drill changed everything, another concise and clear presentation to clean up a swing fault! Keep em coming coach 🙂
"I know my golf swing isn't terrible, but it's nowhere near where I want it to be or nowhere near perfect; and there is more than one way.." - Alistair Davies. And, that is why I love your channel, coach! Hope all's well.
Thanks for watching Don’t make the trail shoulder mistake in the downswing! Al
I don’t think most golfers appreciate just how important this move really is, and he does a great job simplifying it. Nice work. 💯
Thanks 🙏
Definitely a move that we amateur golfers should all be practicing. Good lesson Mr. Davies!
Thanks John
I love the way you simplified the movement by saying LOSE THE ARM WRESTLE it makes it so much easier 👍🏌♂️⛳
Thanks 🙏
The best example/drill I have seen to remedy the problem! Thanks Alistair. Regards Ian
Thanks Ian

100 % correct.

Thanks John, all is good thanks, hope your well
I am still struggling with my trail shoulder, its like a curse. But that video helped me to feel the right thing. Feels like throwing the club.
Keep at it
'Losing the arm wrestle'... Brilliant! Slice/slap gone after 40 years
Great to hear
Like it.
Thanks Ben
This seems to cause an open club face for me . Please explain how to correct. Thanks
Hi maybe you need to get the wrist action to match up, so more wrist flexion in lead wrist
This is a very important move but VERY difficult to do in full speed.
Work at a slow pace to start then build up
The right shoulder can only go where the right hip takes it .. rotate that body out of the way !! :D
500!
