I lived in Berlin in the 60s and was absolutely fascinated by the four-leaf inward swinging door assembly on the BVG's Büssing buses. These weren't bifold doors but four separate leaves that were flat when closed but stacked when open - no hinges, just clever connecting rods.
German design of vehicles stress function as very important to design. both must relate well. must be well engineered. should improve reliability and satisfaction of use. and sales.

welll maybe not so reliable. our new busses get incapacitated in the road because doors won't close and all busses and trams stuck behind
