    Love your videos, this one popped up and had to watch. My dad was communications personnel with 2nd Scout Company, 2nd Tank Battalion, 2nd Marine Division at Tarawa. The Scouts were all over those islets WHILE the battle was happening on Betio, information gathering, shadowing Japanese troops. Teaoraereke Bairiki Eita village Nanikai (sp?)...code names were used for each islet, which are seen in the after action reports, and I'm still trying to figure out a few of them. "Helen" was Betio. Entire company bivouaced on "Diana" 25 Nov 1943, so if anyone knows which islet was "Diana", please comment! A few other code names were Cora, Ella, Julia, Betty, Nellie, Judy... yeah I'm geeky like that.

    This country is so unique, peaceful, and it has a truly special atmosphere, like nowhere else on this planet. I can only hope, I'll be able to experience this personally, looks absolutely special! Thank you for documenting and sharing this experience! 🙂

    It is so difficult to find usable video footage of South Tarawa; that's why I'm very grateful for this upload. Thank you very much:)

      @@aperezvoyages Oh my friend, I'm not going to misuse your recordings:-)) I like Kiribati very much and the people are extremely sympathetic to me - that's why I deal with this beautiful country. I just wanted to thank you for your good upload:)

    So sad those mountains of trash :(

    • @aperezvoyages
      @aperezvoyages  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Couldn’t agree more! And that’s just landfill! It’s a harsh reality to see beaches and grassy patches covered in nothing but garbage. I’m working on te next video and will show some more of Betio island . Literally the worse garbage patch I’ve ever seen!
