  • hi everyone :-) long time no talk! sorry about the delay on videos, more to be coming soon!!
    this video will tell you everything you need to know about making 100% water changes for a betta fish tank. obviously you should not be doing these all the time, but if you are, here is my way of doing it!
    thank you for all your support and comments (even if some of them aren't the nicest). i'm very happy to know so many people care about betta fishes as they should and to politely correct others on their mistakes. if you have any questions, comments, or concerns please feel free to write me!
    love you all! music is from bensound.com

    IMPORTANT!!! Don't use the rough side of the sponge to scrub the walls of the tank!!! In made this mistake, and now I can barely see through the plastic, because it is so scratched up!!!!

    My work office has a betta and only one person knows how to clean it but she hasn’t done it in over a month so the algae buildup got really bad and I made a last ditch effort to clean the tank since nobody else would do it. Gotta save the fishy lol. But anyway this video helped me so much! I was really confused by a lot of the guides I’ve looked at online and for some reason we don’t have like half the supplies we should for doing this (don’t know how she normally does it). I spent hours trying to find a simple straightforward guide and THIS. IS. IT. Lol I’m sooo glad I stumbled upon your video. Thank you so much

    Not to be rude or anything, but normally if you clean your gravel every time you clean your tank it gets rid of the good bacteria. Thats how my Betta fish died, but i learnt from it.

      no, the good bacteria lives in the filter/ everything that's in the filter. they also have this thing called concentrated biological booster that helps prestart the bacterial colony. I recommend the fluval brand of concentrated biological booster.

    100% water changes are fine. This isn't a water change. It's a breakdown which you shouldn't be doing. if you rinsed the gravel with treated water you'd be fine. By doing it this way you're breaking the biological cycle and endangering your fish. Again, this isn't a water change.

    100% water changes won't crash your cycle, all the beneficial bacteria lives in the filter, and sometimes gravel, decor or tank walls, chlorine will kill beneficial bacteria and crash your cycle though, which is why people recommend washing decor in old tank water, this is also why it's not good to replace filter cartridges without adding a new one on top of the old one a few weeks before, when you remove the cartridge, you also remove all of the bacteria that you spent more than a month building up while cycling! 100% water changes are unnecessary and stressful for the fish, not to mention you, in a small tank you often have to change the water multiple times a week, who would want to do all that multiple times a week, especially, if you have anything more than the absolute minimum tank size, I have a few 10 gallons and they weigh 100 pounds a peice! You can just leave the betta in, turn off the filter and heater, than use a cup/turkey bastor/syphon to take out whatever percentage of the water, than make new water (add conditioner, match the temp) and poor it right in, and there you go, water change in less than 15 minutes!

    I’m so confused as to how you clean a fish tank. Theirs so many comments on how it messes up the cycle to clean it 100 percent? Then theirs the 25 percent if it’s filtered? How do you clean 25 percent? Do you literally get a cup and scoop it out? Do you have to take the fish out??? I don’t have a fish yet, but I plan on buying everything I need for my birthday and then later when it’s all set up I’ll buy my male Betta.

    Hey guys my name is Meg. An American living in Taiwan and I finally figured out how to create a beta tank that doesn't need changing.
    All you do is top off the water and since I have done this I have had no disease nothing in my tanks have died. Been going strong for about a year and it took me 3 years to figure out how to fix the water in Taiwan
    If you've got a high pH you just basically let your water sit with a couple pieces of cut almond leaves like a square let it sit and then it's ready to go
    With this system I don't even need a filter because the plants that are in my tank feed off the almond leaves and it also feeds off the tannins that come from the Driftwood and the almond leaves
    Guys I'm asking for a favor could you please check out the next video I post.
    I'm finishing my rescaping of my fourth tank. It's my first time to have a tank where nothing dies. I did this tank with my hands and no aquascaping tools.
    Channel is called welcome to the wild and I'll be finishing it tonight
    Please look out for the Post. By the way great channel

      +Betta Bet bettas do not need a hammock, just how they don't need other decorations, but it is very beneficial. the reason a betta hammock exists is because instead of bettas laying on the bottom, it brings them closer to the top of the water. it's a great investment and very cheap!

    Hey there! Recently discovered your channel and can I just say I am in LOVE! I did regretfully had my Betta in a bowl for a while however I just got a tank the other day, woo hoo!! However I noticed your Betta doesn't seem to struggle as much with the filter as my Betta does. My filter seems to be creating kind of like a current and my fish really struggles to swim in the area where the water is coming out. Is there a certain trick to it? Does the water level effect it? Is it just my tank? If you could help me out in any way shape or form that'd be really awesome!!

    • @NatalieLaurenBetta
      @NatalieLaurenBetta  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i've noticed that the water level does affect the flow, it's usually best if the level is below or higher than the filter. i've seen that when it's right at the filter level it has a bigger impact on the fish. and also i think my betta is used to the current so that may be why your betta is still getting caught up in it. thank you for all your kind words also :-) i hope this helped!

    When putting the fish into a container during cleaning should you just use tap water? And how do you acclimate the fish?

    • @NatalieLaurenBetta
      @NatalieLaurenBetta  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      no, you just take the water from the tank. you never put fish in tap water unless it's conditioned. and acclimating basically means getting the outside water to be the same temperature as the inside water, so what you do is you keep your betta in a cup floating at the top of the tank and not releasing it until at least 15-30 minutes later. also, you want the chemical levels to be similar so every 5 minutes just add some of the outside water into the inside water.

    • @NatalieLaurenBetta
      @NatalieLaurenBetta  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      not a silly question at all! lots of people have different opinions on whether or not you should do 100% water changes at all. personally, i do them every once a month, but lately i've just been doing 25% water changes. i should hopefully be doing a video on that soon so i will definitely address that! hope this helped :-)

    Don't do %100 water changes its bad for your fish and it will shock them, and there are easier way to clean your gravel and your gravel shouldn't get do dirty if you have a good filter and you are doing weekly water changes. Your tank NEEDS A FILTER not having a filter is not a good excuse for doing %100 water changes, I'm tanking to you comment section... don't worry Natalie I'm aware your tank has a filter. ☺️☺️

    • @IWU447
      @IWU447 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No just try to keep the water warm between 72-82 degrees. Btw try to buy a bigger tank and a filter to keep the tank clean. A heater will be helpful if your house or room is cold but if its average you dont really need it but it will be better to have one.

    Okay.. so. I was at the mall and these people were selling betta fish in tinyyy tanks at a pop up shop that left today. Like I think less than a gallon. I had no knowledge about them and I really wanted a fish. So I bought one. I can’t really invest in a good quality tank but I’m getting and 4 gallon tank I think from target and was wondering if I have to use a filter? Or even a heater. Where I live it’s winter and gets rlly cold so I’m leaving the tank in the hottest room at night. Also I fed it 4 pellets this morning but it seems less energetic than yesterday. He is just chilling at the bottom not rllly moving. (He’s not dead) please give me some advice on what I should do!

    Hey,i just bought a halfmoon betta recently and i have a 25w filter/pump and my tank is a 7l tank but i have noticed that my betta is constantly swimming in the opposite direction of the filter/pump i think she might be stressed or something but if anyone knows anything about it please reply

    • @Itsme-fo7xf

      The tank is to smal for the filter and I think that she/he is kind of stressed because of the power of the filter. I have a 20 L tank and I had a very powerful filter and all my fish were swimming in the other places of the tank were the filter was not.

      You should buy a smaller filter or maybe the tipe of filter is too powerful, or you can buy a bigger tank(at least 10 L/2.5 gallons)
