    Happy 1 year in living in Las Vegas to the both of us! I moved a year ago from Chicago for exactly the same reasons a new chapter and to experience something completely different. You’re so right suburb living in the entertainment capital of the world. Everyone asks me if it’s better out here and the answer is no it’s just different. I don’t miss the 2 hour traffic jams in Chicago. A lot of chain restaurants though so I end up cooking at home most of the time. I practice Yoga and I have found some great instructors out here. So my advice your new address doesn’t solve your problems or traumas. You are your only constant, just know who you are and you’ll be fine. Namaste 🧘🏻‍♀️🧡

    • @44_max3
      @44_max3 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Some of the traffic jams in Vegas can be even worse than Chicago. It depends a lot on what time of day you are talking and which expressway. Enjoy! I’m still stuck in Chicago. Despite the drama and occasional crappy weather, it ain’t so bad...

    • @SirenaChicago
      @SirenaChicago 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@44_max3 I completely disagree on your point about traffic, occasional crappy weather and it not being so bad. IL has destroyed the middle class.
      1. How long ago did you live in Las Vegas? I live in Henderson and there are only two freeways (no tollways here where the state of IL nickels and dimes everything!) around the city the 15 and 215 and it has never taken longer than 45 minutes from each point.
      2. Occasional crappy weather? Really? That's a laugh Chicago averages less than 100 Sunny days of per year! And the Humidity you can cut with a knife!
      3. It's not so bad? Have you owned a home in Cook County? I paid $12K per year in property taxes alone in a 2000 sq ft home. I now have a 3,000 sq ft home and pay less than 3K per year with a pool!
      Chicago will always be home, the history, the food (best in the country in MHO), culture and people. However, the cons on living there out weigh the pros. God Bless.

      @manbeastx69 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SirenaChicago So well written about the differences of the two cities.Chicago IMHO is just a miserable place and you absolutely nailed it when it comes to the fleecing of high taxes not just in Chicago but the whole state of Illinois because there is no comparing the two.As for food have you been trying the smaller restaurants that are not chains and owned by locals because there are so many great places to go.

    I lived in Vegas for right at 4 years. Reasons we loved it:
    1). One of the best airports in the world.
    2). Some of the best restaurants in the world.
    3). Best entertainment in the world.
    4.) Very very convenient to drive from one place to the other.
    5.) If you want to party one night you have places to go. If not, there are many places to chill.
    6.) Some of the best golf courses in the world.
    7.) No state income tax.
    8.) You will always get friends and family to visit every year.
    9.) Some of the most beautiful scenery in the world.
    While every city has it's issues, Vegas is truly a great place to live!

    After graduating from college, my son moved there, with nothing. Trying to get his own fresh and independent start in life. I totally support that. No car, he walked to dealer school in the heat. He broke in at the old O'Shea's and eventually worked Flamingo, as a dealer of the carnival games and blackjack.
    With the shifts being highly irregular in the entertainment business, meeting up with the friends one makes is somewhat limited. It was always fun to visit him and see him work. No, I didn't want to risk his job by sitting at a table he was dealing at. Haha!
    After year and a half he returned back to Seattle.
    But it sounds like you will have time to actually enjoy what the city has to offer, via your source of income being somewhat flexible. I love visiting down there, but it would be difficult to live there, while, arguably, being part of the very business that defines Las Vegas.
    Keep up the videos! If you are my son, I'd be proud of what you're doing.

    Lived in Vegas for 13 years, its over rated. Once the honeymoon of OMG we live in Vegas wears off it's just like living in Phoenix Az. Once your there for a year or so you seldom go to the strip or Fremont Street. Most locals go to the local casinos to get their gambling fix. Gambling is a very expensive habit for most people very few make a living doing it. My advise is unless you have a great job already lined up is stay where your at and make a Vegas trip when ever you can afford it. That way you look forward to the trip and always have a great time and if your smart you budget how much you spend. I live in Phoenix, its about a 4-5 hour drive to Vegas, we make 1 or 2 trips a year We drink and eat way too much, gamble within our budget, and have a blast.

      Honestly it’s like this wherever you go but tbh ... I moved here from the Bay Area and for me it’s not even about the Strip. It’s super affordable and the heat isn’t even that bad. Plus it’s not year-round heat. I wouldn’t move somewhere just to enjoy the festivity’s because that would ruin the living situation for me . You move somewhere to be comfortable and at peace with your environment . My side of town in Vegas is perfect for me at the moment .

    Thanx for your down to earth review of living in Las Vegas ... I'm amazed by how much it has grown and changed in some wayz too. Like yourself, I grew up east coast (Brooklyn and Buffalo) ... my dad bought a home out there in the 60s, I moved there, in the middle of winter, left heavy snow in NY, arrived at LV airport wearing a heavy coat and winter foot wear, the weather getting off the plane in february was drop dead gorgeous ... everything was new, I could see desert and mountains, palm trees, there were swimming pools galore, etc. It was so laid back compared to east coast. It was right then, I knew that I was never wanting to go back to the snow, the old dirty tenaments, stinky subways, etc. Came to Texas years ago, fell in love, joined a rock band, etc ... today at 65 years old, I have 3 daughters and a wife, found my home in Dallas ... which is kind of like Vegas, as far as the laid back neighbourhoods, friendly folks, and better weather than up north. I see, indeed, why you like it ... and as you said ... Vegas is much more than the strip or downtown ... it truly is a beautiful town ... I feel the same way about Dallas too.

    My wife and i will be retiring soon and thinking about moving to Vegas as our retirement get away, we are not huge gamblers so that's not an issue. Still contemplating the move because we still do love our life in Kansas and our families are still here.I have a couple of friends who live out there and we do come once to twice a year and i just love the place so the decision still needs to be made in the next 5 years. Your content is amazing and i will continue to follow you no matter what you do.

    Work in Chicago for courier service. They have a branch in LV. My mother had a winter rental so I went with her .Thought it would be a working vacation but it was more work. The pros were no snow. It was very scenic. There was a lot to do.The restaurant, bowling alley, and movie theater are all located in the casino. The cost of living and taxes are a little cheaper. The cost of gambling was about $25 a week more than in Chicago. The things I didn't like was I would run into people who were unpleasant because they had a Bad day at the casino. Everyone smokes. All My friends and family are in Chicago and I would miss them.lf I have a chance to spend the winter in LV I would.

    Laughed at the part of you looking outside your apartment window of your old place.
    That's how I feel like everyday now.
    I used to have an awesome lifestyle right in the heart of what you guys would call "downtown" Sydney Australia but I was working 7 days a week to live that lifestyle.. for 10 years of my life.
    Now I live in a questionable neighbourhood but have the freedom of "kinda" doing what I want... starting my own business in the middle of Covid etc.

Pre-COVID my ex and I would drive around Las Vegas and wondered what everyone does outside of the strip lol. I saw a comment from Brian Gulley and they say it's like living in Phoenix, AZ... Las Vegas does resemble Phoenix, AZ (of course minus the casinos/resorts). Cute kittie!

    Haha, you ain't in Connecticut anymore! Lucky for you! You seem like a very calm and level headed person, and your impressions and thoughts therefore mean a lot. Having lived in LA from 2012-2019 (and in the late 80s) I have seen what failed leadership and extremist "big government" politics can do to a state and city. A huge chunk of my soul always was and always will be in LA, and my kids grew up there - we made many memories. Regardless, unless you can afford a gated mansion and don't venture out of that mansion, the quality of life in LA, and even Beverly Hills where I lived, is just terrible. By comparison Las Vegas is the easy life. Much lower crime, much cleaner, much cheaper. You get the Hollywood culture of entertainment, and the palm trees, without all the diva attitudes and dirty streets, without all the taxes and traffic, without all the frustration and ambivalence of wanting to leave all the time. I will be moving my family to Vegas in a few months and have done the full research - I have absolutely no reservations. I wish you all the best and that you will continue to have fun. See ya on the Strip.

    • @Poppi-Poppa-Socky
      @Poppi-Poppa-Socky 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lower crime? I lived in Vegas for 15 years, just left last year because the crime was getting out of control. It's become a ceespool of California gang bangers moving in.

    • @bjgz
      @bjgz 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Poppi-Poppa-Socky The official stat from LVMPD is that crime in 2019 was down 16% from previous year. I don't doubt there is truth in what you say, because Californians are leaving. I lived in LA almost a decade and also left, because of numerous reasons, mainly the fact that the homeless population doubled during our stay there and you could not get away from it. CA simply is not the conservative state it used to be when I first lived there in the 80s. Idiot politicians ruined it. We lived in 90210 and even on Rodeo Drive we had homeless digging in trash cans etc. Regardless there are plenty of areas of Vegas with clean safe communities - Henderson being the best example. Summerlin being another. Every city has its hoods. As for the tourist thugs, I think the recent spike in troublemakers will decline once it reopens fully. But thugs are everywhere. Vegas still does not rank on most dangerous cities lists and the top 30 most dangerous cities are almost all back east. America as a whole has issues, nowhere is perfect.

    • @Poppi-Poppa-Socky
      @Poppi-Poppa-Socky 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bjgz Good luck sir. I lived in Henderson and Summerlin. It's everywhere. I wouldn't believe any numbers Vegas police or politicians put out. That's their bottom line you will not get accurate numbers from them. My next store neighbor in Henderson ($500,000 homes) turned out to be a pimp with gang ties, that ended up getting raided in the early morning hours. You can't get away from it in Vegas because money talks there more than any other place in the world and it doesn't matter if it's clean money or dirty money. By the way Vegas homeless population is out of control as well. Good luck walking or driving anywhere without being hit up for money.

    • @bjgz
      @bjgz 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Poppi-Poppa-Socky Job relocation enabled us to leave CA, and another possible transfer to Vegas in June, which is why I am doing a deep dive into the research, including watching these live streams. We have only visited Vegas, not lived there, and I know there is a big difference. In January we take a scouting trip there specifically to look at various neighborhoods and get a feel for the type of people, cleanliness etc. I like to hear from people who are disenchanted with it, or left, because I want the raw truth, not something sugar coated. I guess I now compare everything to LA, so every place I look at seems better (except those hellholes back east of course). We ended up in Utah btw - not Salt Lake which has really gone downhill - but in Utah County, which is extremely white and Mormon, thus we do indeed have little crime or homeless, safe and clean etc. However we hate winters. Time will tell what happens, but I'm taking in all the info I can get and appreciate your honesty.

    I’m 17, in Florida, I HATE IT HERE. I need to get out of Florida, the people are toxic everywhere you look, the heat, and although we have Disney and beaches it is horrible. I have money saved up and if things go as planned, I’ll have $32,000 save up by the time I’m 18. Now, I want to buy a multi unit property, fix it, rent it, and then refinance it. That is my plan, I wanna get a real estate license too, now the thing is, I don’t know where to go. I’ve looked at cities and right now my two favorites are Chicago and Las Vegas. I love Chicago but the thing about it is that taxes are high. I was looking at homes for instance and in Vegas you could pay less than $5,000 on a $750,000 dollar home monthly payment whereas Chicago that same home would be $6,000+ because of taxes. Chicago has income tax, Vegas doesn’t, where I wanna get to is, would you recommend Las Vegas?
